is The Hits succesful?
The Pop Hits said on December 19, 2006 21:12:
is it charting anywhere? Germany?? Sweden?
Can we already call it a “flop”? :( I´m sure TPH and TBH did much much better in Europe. Or anywhere.
later.

If you want to compare Hits and One Wish charts results with older Rox releases you can find it here:
http://roxroom.wz.cz/charts.php
Still no gold records. Even in Sweden which means OW sales are less than 10.000 copies and Hits sales are less than 30.000 copies.
BTW: Mazarin sales are somewhere around 350.000 copies so far (5x platina, almost 6x).
Albums
CBB, Hits 95, HAND, RS - platina
TBH - gold
TPH - no award
Singles
Sleeping In My Car, Stars - gold
The Center Of The Heart - platina

Does it REALLY matter? I’m just grateful for the music. I don’t really give a rats HOW HIGH it climbs or not.

Doesn’ t matter. But some people are curious about statistic.
Didn’ t Per say himself he did it to?
roxflash said on December 20, 2006 12:14:
just speculations, but
I think 75.000 copies worldwide is more accurate?
If the sales in sweden is under 10.000 so far,
maybe they sell 15.000 in germany, 5000 in spain ?
artist like Beyonce sells 750.000 - 1 million something of her latest album
and she has a massive promotion and is everywhere in the media.

What can you expect, 3-4 greatest hits albums later, will people want to buy the same songs again?

Well, it isn’t in the bargain bins yet, so it must be doing something!

well, according to vh1 (some1 posted this news here earlier) the hits sold over 1 milion so we can’t complain.

But I don’t really belive VH1’s source - it must have been Per who gave them this info *lol*
James_Earp said on December 31, 2006 15:06:
Naaa now I think you are a little bit to negative.I mean the population in Germnay and Spain are way over Swedens, they should sell atleast just as muche there as in sweden. I don´t think the hits will sell 1 million, but atleast 250 000.
And according to billboard.com Beyonce has gone 2X platina in the US which is 2 million copies, and she is still in the top 20s, so I think you can say the she will sell at least 3-4 million copies in the world.

As far as I know the ABBA number ones album didn’t do that well. It seems to be the trend for record labels to release lots of versions of people’s greatest hits. Abba, Cliff richard, Beautiful South, Depeche mode, Deacon Blue, Lightning Seeds and many others have all had multiple ’best of’ albums, and the successive ones never do as well as the early ones.
davidc4 said on January 8, 2007 14:34:
it would probably sell around 2 million eventually.considering the amount of countries that it has bin released in. also remember it is getting a US release and it will shift a fair few copies even if it misses the chart.in the UK it spent 3 weeks on our Top 75 and must have shifted around 20,000 over here by now.the ballad hits was a Gold record over here and that did similar in the charts
GT_85 said on January 8, 2007 15:55:
Wasn’t the Ballad Hits “just” a silver record in the uk?
If the Hits gets succesful in America I’m sure it will climb the charts in the rest of

Why would that be. in case you haven t noticed Us always gets Rox release last and i don t think anyone bothers if it is a hit there (or at least not to the extend that it influences cd sales anywhere else)
By the way ’Hits’ got gold in Switzerland, so that s at least 15’000
I really doubt that sales will be close to 1 million.
abysmo said on February 16, 2007 00:54:
Is it really only 15.000? Not so much.
The only one national chart where Hits is still charted is Ireland. 16 weeks in chart and still no award. Strange.
phoenixsamudra said on February 16, 2007 10:29:
It used to be 30 000 but then cd sales went downhill.
’Hits’ is still in the austrian charts at 64
Room_service said on February 16, 2007 10:47:
phoenixsamudra, it must be the same worldwide. That’s how it works here in Argentina since 2001:
Gold: 20.000 units
Platinum: 40.000 units
It used to be the double (40.000 and 80.000 prior to 2001). I think the last Rox album that got an award here was HAND.
Julz said on October 12, 2007 11:01:
I hear nothin’ about it, here in Oz. Nothin’ heard of ’em here since “Milk and Toast and Honey”. That didn’t even chart here! My sis-in-law said she heard it on the radio a year or so ago. I never did. Never saw the clip ,til I bought their dvd compilation.
imazombieinthem... said on October 12, 2007 12:38:
It’s easy to work out why it flopped here in Australia though.
No hit since SIMC (1994)
DBUGTTC released 1995 sells double platinum only after heavy tv ad promotion.
Not heard of again, no more hits singles or albums, 11 years pass, no One Wish single release to promote it. Why buy another GH package when to the major music buying public, that was the last release that they bought?
coyboyusa said on October 12, 2007 14:53:
it’s simple...too many hits packages too close together, no promotion behid them for varying reasons = no sales. Look how well dont bore us did...it’s the only hits package emi put money behind and it did exceptionally well. The worrisome thing is that this is gonna be the story no matter what roxette puts out if they can’t promote it together.
ncurran said on October 12, 2007 14:56:
Not really successful, but how to you really measure success? It probably did just about as well as they thought it would.
Julz said on October 12, 2007 23:12:
I guess it’s ’coz emi don’t promote ’em. The radio don’t seen to wanna know about ’em. I remember when I wanted to get fox fm listen to Marie’s “Den Standiga Resan”album. I know the latino language songs did well on our charts: eg, “Macarina” and “Ketchup Song”. So I thought that Marie might do somethin’ for ’em, but... not interested. RobS told me there are a few Aussies here in TDR, which I haven’t noticed ’til now. As I said in another topic, Any Aussie fan here can email me by clickin’ “Julz” above. I dunno many fans. Cheers guys!!
Gachy said on October 13, 2007 00:16:
You can’t pretend every music label promoting every artist they have signed with. They have to set priorities somewhere. Why should they spend money and effort in a compilation from a band that “used-to-be-successful-but-no-anymore” when they have other acts (like Robbie Williams) that sell a lot more, and tour and such?
Fans should face the momentum of Roxette is gone, and that’s why they don’t get so much exposure in the media as you think they deserve. They were at the top in the period 1989-1992, but fame doesn’t last forever. It applies to any other artist in the world.
Julz said on October 13, 2007 01:04:
It is a BIG shame!! I’d really love for them to make a come-back here. :(

And rox will come back to Australia Julz.
I habe the Live-ISM VHS recorded in Sydney, what a joyride!!!
chrisjankunas said on October 14, 2007 14:13:
Well, at least the “Roxette Hits” charted in the Uk - unlike “The Pop Hits” and that was just with a little advertising campaign ! For me it wasn’t a failure, seeing a Roxette cd in the shop for a few weeks !!
coyboyusa said on October 14, 2007 14:30:
i’d have to disagree with the assertion that their big days ended in 92, hand solke over 4 million copies, rs 2.5....it’s all a matter of promotion and touring, they are a trouring band, if they had toured behind HAND it would have probably mated joyride in sales in europe at least.
RobS said on October 15, 2007 10:32:
coyboyusa said: “i’d have to disagree with the assertion that their big days ended in 92”
You’re probably right, it should be their “super-big” days ended around 92. The fact that HAND still sold around 4million odd albums is rather good, especially considering that HAND was a comeback after 4 years, there was no US release and the only promo done was in europe.
The album was full of great songs for singles and with a tour, i think coyboy is right, it’s quite possible it could’ve been the next Joyride.
Is the Hits successful? Yes i think so, given the tiny amount of promo and the fact that there was a GH release just before it.
Julz said on October 15, 2007 11:12:
What promo Rob?? Probably only internet an’ that’s it. I heard nothin’ otherwise. What GH release before it? The “Pop Hits” and “The Ballad Hits”? That’s the only GH albums I know before TH. Hmmmm....*seeming a li’l puzzled*
whateveriam said on October 15, 2007 12:03:
Yeah, Don’t Bore Us was ’95, or 2000 for the US issue, then TBH in 2002, and TPH in 2003. So only a 3 year gap between GH releases
RobS said on October 15, 2007 12:35:
I was sort of talking about the few shows they did in Sweden and Germany i think. That’s what i meant by tiny amount. As far as the rest of the world is concerned, most people probably wouldn’t know it existed.
Viewtiful said on December 19, 2006 21:42:
My guess is that it’s not a big flop as The Pop Hits but it hasn’t sold as many copies as The Ballad Hits either, so somewhere in between... around 750.000 copies?
