Could MATAH's success lead to 4th single???

I was just looking over the chart performance for Roxette’s 3 singles. This led me to ask the question “would they reconsider releasing a 4th single based on MATAH’s success”?

Consider the following: MATAH has had really good “staying power” on the charts. It has been on more than 30 charts for 13 weeks running and should easily add a couple more to that. By comparison, Real Sugar was only on 30+ charts for 9 weeks. Granted, TCOTH blew both of them away (30+ charts for 15 weeks and 80+ charts for 8 weeks), but that always seems to be the case for the lead single. But, with MATAH being quite a bit more successful than RS, there is not the downward trend, which usually spells the end for single releases. So, why not release one more single off of Room Service based on this success? Jefferson would be my preference but others tracks would work as well. I dare to say that it could be relatively successful, even without a bit of promotion from P & M. So, come on, what have you got to lose???

once and for all let it go after the new year its work on a new album no needs for a 4th singles and both per and marie and emi said no 4th single

I agree. I also think there should have been a 4th single, preferably “Looking For Jane.”

Probably not, there’s no other single strong enough to be the 4th single. Looking for Jane is close, but without much EMI promotion, it’s not gonna do any good.

hell yeah now that Per is in the news again with the SIMC lawsuit...they CUD (if EMI & Dumberg are clever) use this for a little free PR :) ...including the new single in the Press Release

as I said before, I’d love a new single to be out with a video clip including tour-scenes

I think they’d be foolish NOT to release a fourth single after the massive success of “M&T&H” in Sweden... clearly Swedish radio is favourable to Roxette right now, so why not strike while the iron is hot? And when was the last time a Roxette single got into the Top 30 sales chart in Switzerland??! “M&T&H” is way more successful than “Stars”, the third single from “Have a Nice Day”, or “She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.” “My World, My Love, My Life” would be perfect for these dark, cold months (well, dark and cold for those of us in nordic countries (: ). Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Yes, now that you mention in, MWMLML, would be the perfect single for this time. Personally, I prefer Jefferson, LFJ or MMHGP but yes, another ballad might do real well during the cold & dark months. And sure, they could compile tour footage for the video, which means even less work for P & M.

roxtexanet, Milk is NOT as successful as Stars was.

Some of “Stars” peaks, “Milk” in brackets:
Germany 23 (54)
Sweden 13 (21)
Switzerland 28 (30)
Norway 11 (–)
Finland 9 (–)
UK 56 (78)

Roxette has had these singles in the Swiss Top 30 ’99-’01
WICF 12
Anyone 30
Stars 28
TCOTH 28
Milk 30

AND: There was NO single release after She Doesn’t Live...

I’m hoping for the new version of “Stupid” to be released!

@animalkingdom: Thanks for the information about the Swiss sales charts, I didn’t realise Roxette’s singles have sold so well there. By saying that “Milk” is way more successful than “Stars”, I was referring to airplay (but I should have been clearer about that)... it was the 17th biggest song in Sweden last year according to the Tracks survey (“Stars” was 34th in 1999, and “She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” - the third single from “Don’t Bore Us” - didn’t even make the year end survey). To me, it doesn’t really make sense to look at sales because singles sales have plummetted everywhere in the years since Napster came onto the scene. From what I understand, the “Milk” video has been extremely successful on MTV Nordic and I don’t remember hearing about MTV playing “Stars” or “She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” very much at all... I still think a fourth single should be released, at least in Sweden, given the popularity of “Milk” and the recent Media Control airplay award, but I doubt that will happen.

@ roxtexanet, so what’s the use of releasing singles if they don’t sell?
if this is the issue then roxette should consider releasing radio-only singles.

@animalkingdom: In many countries (Canada, for example) it’s rare that a song is released as a commercial single (the last Roxette single available commercially in Canada was “Sleeping In My Car”)... instead, songs are released to radio and music video channels only. The reason, of course, is to sell albums, which is always the reason singles are released: The idea is, if you like the song, buy the album. But if you’re not going to buy the album, at least buy the single. Maybe by the time the fourth single comes along, you’ll be familiar enough with the songs to just suck it up and buy the album... that’s what the record companies are hoping anyway (why do you think singles are deleted almost as soon as they’re released?).

@Roxtexanet... Couldn’t have said it better myself. Indeed, single releases’ main goal is to increase album sales. If the single sells well... well, that’s a bonus. I remember when I was a teenager I would usually wait until I heard 3 singles from a band (and liked them all) before I went out and bought the album. I suspect this is the case with many people today as well.
