CAN WE SAY IT NOW? THE BIGGEST ROXETTE´S FLOP?
PolicarpoAroca said on November 4, 2006 16:58:
I think it´s time to say that One Wish and all this Roxette´s 20th project is their biggest flop ever.
Give me reasons against this idea...but don´t forget this single isn´t being played anywhere in Europe.
Perhaps they are waiting for an American release to start...but I don´t think so.

I don’t think this is a flop! “One Wish” reached #2 in Sweden and #3 in Spain (which I found very surprising). Also, they are on the charts in the British isles!
They have had flops singles-wise but I definitely wouldn’t include One Wish in them.
And so what...What’s the point in this discussion anyway? Why spread negativity in here AGAIN?
miss-misery said on November 4, 2006 17:48:
Why can people only be negative in this forum? Do you really care so much about charts and stuff? Don’t you think that the most important thing is that Roxette has made a come back after what Marie’s has been trough?
I think that the quality of the song is a more important issue than its position in charts.

What to say? You’ re wrong. Compare chart results.
You don’ t like OW, but it doesn’ t mean it’ s a flop.

No, I don’t think so!!!
One Wish is a really great pop-song!!!
PolicarpoAroca said on November 4, 2006 18:30:
I´m not saying One Wish is a bad song. On the contrary, I love it...it´s fabulous. Specially the middle of the song and the Marie´s voice. Pure Roxette.

I do love One Wish and Reveal but you can tell Per put so much more effort into the truly tremendous SOAP project.
GT_85 said on November 4, 2006 18:44:
Yes, One Wish is a big flop. Or how do you guys define a flop? Some of you didn’t even think SOAP was a flop. A flop per definition is that it sells very bad, or..? Both One Wish and SOAP flopped (this far). The Hits! on the other side are doing very well in the charts.
#50 in germany! c’mon. It’s not top 10 in many countries.
A song can be the best song in the world, but if it do not sell, it is a flop.
One Wish is a great song, EMI’s job is to let the world know that. But as we all know, EMI is not very good.

No, a flop is something that sells far less than hoped by the creator. Spending My Time was a flop in the US. Btw. OW is doing a lot better than many previous singles: Vulnerable, SDLHA, Anyone, Salvation, Real Sugar, Opportunity Nox...

it is relative, depends on many things like what was Roxette & EMI’s target when they released the different items, to whom you compare Roxette with, relationship between promotion and results..
When the stuff was released and seeing that they wouldn’t do that much of a promotion, I thought nobody would notice that Roxette is back, but surprise! :) I’m happy to see them back in the charts and in preferred places on the shelves. A nice way of preparing the path for something new - if only P&M would just finally agree on doing a new album ;)

I wouldn’t call One Wish a flop. You can hear it quite often on the Swedish radio. Well, but that’s Sweden, you know.
I think, One Wish would have done 10 times better if Per and Marie would have been able to do a big promo. Then it’d have been a blast, I’m sure!
Pascal said on November 4, 2006 20:34:
OW is definately a flop in the charts and on the radio, with the exception of Sweden and Spain and maybe a few other countries.
The Hits album is certainly not a flop considering the fact that there was not that much promo in most countries and the fact that many people have already DBUGTTC or Ballad Hits/Pop Hits.
emilio said on November 4, 2006 23:58:
sadly for some people Onw Wish is not a flop. I don’t know much about european music bussines but i really do here in ARG. Roxette is Actually a band that change the pop music industry in the 90’s making possible that many radiobands reach the stardom. The radiobands like rox needs a lot of promotion because pop music work on that way so roxette is still selling records of greatest (5 in the last 10 years) hits and making them top 40 in many countries of Europe, hey its amazing!. Now they hace a top 40 in Ireland, UK, Spain, Filand, Norway, Sweeden, and many more with zero promotion. Does anoybody think that Joyride could have sold more than 10.000.000 of copies worldwide without the tons of millons hat EMI spent in Promotion?
On the other hand im sure that if Rox had been touring with any single album they made, The GH from now would be a top 10 in USA, latinamerica, southafrica, japan, and the whole Europe. Play live makes you stronger than the money your record company waste in teen radios

This is what I call a nice piece of “throw to the dustbin” sort of topic... still trying to figure out what the hell is all about?
Flop? Charts? Airplay? Still don’t get it ... May I continue to hear the music? I had my headphone while listening and grooving to “One Wish”... until I got interrupted by... oh yeah still don’t see what this topic is about... LOL
Wicf said on November 5, 2006 09:24:
Really interesting discussion... Spending My Time wasn’t a flop in US, cuz charting in Bilboard Hot 40 = a hit in US. That’s a fact
About OW - you forgot to mention that OW was #5 in Finnland. OK, it spent only one week in the top 20, but it doesn’t matter. Of course it isn’t at a high position in Germany, but it’s gonna climb higher, isn’t it?
Yeah, airplay is teribble, even in my country which was always Roxette-friendly. If it had good airplay would we call it a hit? I personnaly think MATAH was a hit, I just think airplay is more important than single-selling. Maybe that’s because we have almost no physical singles in CZ :P
