The Roxette of Aeresol Gray Machine

Listening carefully to the new songs “One Wish” and “Reveal” it is obvious that they are highly influenced by the way of work Per and Clarence made at the Aerosol Grey Machine with previous albums like Mazarin or Son of a Plumber.

The guitars included in One Wish remind me to “Spegeboll”. All in all, in the recent Roxette releases, Per don´t miss the opportunity to add a full electronic background to the song (One Wish, for example).

I think the result is good as a evolution of Roxette sound in 2006 and with the background of previous Per´s albums -apart from the opinions of the real quality of the new songs, lack of creativity in the last Per´s creations for Roxette- but if there exist real plans for a new Roxette album, I think Per and Marie should choose a different studio and new perspectives for those new possible releases.

They should definitly strengthen the guitar sound, but not in a CBB! manner, but Joyride, but up-to date. Strong Rickenbackers, original electronic bases. In the new ROXBOX they fully explain that “The Look” was almost an experiment made with new Per´s sintethizer at that year. Why not to risk in the same direction? Clarence and Per should look for the help of any external producer and take the step.

Why do you think about all these “internal” debate about the new Roxette sound -Per has said the old Roxette sound is dead and buried-?

I think that guitar-domination is not very probable in the future. If Per says his doesn’t intend to look back to how Roxette sounded, then he would continue (let’s hope he & Marie do continue) in the new line of song-writing. As someone said the new sound probably has something to do with Christoffer replacing Anders. I liked the previous style and I like the new one. I don‘t think ballads have changed as much as uptempo songs, may be the former don’t sound as powerful (Marie doesn’t have to “shout” as much) as before.

I agree. By the way, I love the new style of Roxette ballads. I love “Reveal”, for example. It reminds me to “I never quit over the fact that the Beatles broke up” atmosphere.

let’s say I would not mind if they would release a full album in the direction of OW, Reveal and a bit of SOAP :O

It´s a good idea too, Judith. If the make it in that direction, we should then talk about a real mature Roxette.

Yawn...

Some positive vibes here from some fans regarding new Roxette’s music and expecting something like that in the near future. At least some positive feedback for a change.

I personally don’t mind either with this “SOAP” sound influece but I also believe that Per will always try a way to not let a Roxette album sound exactly like one of his solo efforts. Otherwise, and I agree on that, it would end up being another Gessle thing rather than a true Roxette project. And don’t forget that Marie can always bring a lot of her solo influeces in it as it had done before too.

I seriously think, good or bad, each Roxette album has a sound and an essence of its own that can not be copied from previous records. Otherwise they would just repeat themselves ... Always looking forward the next step!
