After re-relistening to "Reveal" and "OW"

As always re-listening and insisting in it always helps to make new rox songs sound as evident and tasty as any other older song no matter in which year was released.
Of course some songs will always sound better than others, fine! It’s always a matter of taste and possibly a influence coming from chart sucess I don’t know. But in a period of 7 years since HAND was released there aren’t many rox fans who will clearly express an imediate taste for a rox song as they did before ... so what to do? To overstep that psichological barrier of the songs “not having the same vibe or anything that will connect them to older songs” why not just let them be played and re-played as many times as it can get? I do that all the time and I end up finding myself enjoying it in the end ... It’s a matter of letting the songs grow and gain life of their own in our hears.
“Reveal” for instance in the beggining I remember thinking it was a mix of the jazzy-club feel that trademarks Marie’s solo sound with a bit of Son Of A Plumber sort of raw production kind of way. But then besides that i felt that there were two other Roxette balads confined in this one alltogether. The verses had the same feeling and peaceful happy mood of MTH and the chorus had a magical intense vibe as in the Breathe chorus. So in the end I realised yeah it’s Roxette alright. The funny thing about this song is that it’s not produced in a similar sort of way to balads like Breathe or Wish I Could Fly with drum machines. But the bass line here is excellent. The song is so rich emotionally and so simple in it’s intrumentation ... so it’s a perfect combination of simplicity and emotion. A drum, a bass some keyboard sounds creating an environment and some backing vocals .... that’s it! No need further to say so much!
“One Wish” it’s ironical how a song that made so many of us feel so ceptical and not so pleased (once again a pop tune with the eternal complaning: guitar where are they?) is actually becoming a surprise. It’s a bit too soon maybe for a more certain judgment as this, cause we always tend to let German and UK charts rule our minds but ... so far it’s a question: why still evaluating a song not for it’s quality but for it’s non-possible chart sucess? Anyway this one gained a multi-relistening here as well of course. In the beggining I said it has something of POP in it but 2006 sort of. Then I realized that the melody is a typical per-ish sort of pop tune as so many others prior to that. There are guitars in the back but no guitar solo riff cause that’s what many of us here crave for. It’s legitime. Instead there is a small minimog solo very fuzzy and dancable that makes one go nuts and jump around. I never really enjoyed the begining of the song and Per vocals sound only cool to me in the chorus. However the song gained magic when Maries started to sing her parts towards the end. Then I said “This is a great song”.
It totally regained another mood and spirit making it a really nice uptempo number. Cool...

hmm i still think these are 2 of the weakest roxette songs ever released... when u listen to the hits album you will get the idea of what i mean by weak songs....
If you listen to the look today it still sounds so cool and then you listen to one wish.. it sounds like a childs song...
I dont have much to say about reveal other than it puts me to sleep!

ON and Reveal aren’t on the same level as all the other ones cause they have all had a chart sucess path and have been part of our lives over the years. And that is I think the gate that gets locked for these two songs in our heads. They might be weaker musicallywise than all the others fine once again it’s a matter of taste and jugdment ... yet we never never know or can guess what is going to happen to these two “weak” songs ... who knows what story and path is ahed of them. Who would have guessed “The Look” is the hit that we all know today? So... who knows...
I agree that the chorus on OW is cool I also sing it everytime and sometimes even shout it out loud for fun! LOL ...
However it’s also true that the stregh of older days ballads of all those so called “power ballads” that now seems to be lost a bit. Yet I think that the melody of Reveal still brings bits and pieces of what Roxette has done before ... okey not like SMT or LTYH okey but following the mellow peaceful vibe from Milk Toasta And Honey and in the chorus I still get the same peaceful but emotional vibe that I got from Breathe. That is why i connect both songs to this one. The strangeness here is the production of the song. It was not produced to sound like all those former power ballads and maybe that is why it sounds like being “weak”. yet I don’t let myself all asleep so easily lol

It seems that One Wish w/ some promotion is doing rather well for a band many thought either had broken up or even someone dying (a lot of people in the States thought Marie was gone from us–NOT!!) Yeah, I kindly corrected that one! I think One Wish doesn’t have that Roxette-ish beginning that were so used to w/ Per starting the song off w/ his gravely vocals, you know, his “trademark” and the “build-up” to the chorus. I think it does sound a lot different than the other uptempo songs they have done in the past. It’s remarkably steady–or should I say it paces itself–throughout the whole song. When I heard “Reveal” honestly I wasn’t impressed with it. But how do you keep topping past hits (especially ending tracks such as Beautiful Things, Breathe, or the sweet Perfect Day?) I need to listen to “Reveal” a few more times before I can get used to it I guess. Either way Roxette is in the press again and all us fans want others to know who they are, not who they were...Peace.http://www.myspace.com/sloveproject My dedication to Roxette for so many years of great music. When you guys and gals get a chance, please check it out–let me know what you think. Thanks

At the Beginning i was really disappointed from “One Wish”. Too much pop and synthesizers in that song, and it sounded really “cheap”.
Now, it sounds better, especially the refrain. I sing it under the shower or in the car. But when i watch this song from the outside, not from a fanview, it hasn´t that magical vibe like for example hdyd. From the outsideview it´s just a normal popsong for me. It is Make my head go pop updated for 2006. But fine enough to like it, for a roxfan. Don´t know if other people will like it or remember it in one year.
And “Reveal”: in my opinion it isn´t a typical Roxette ballad. For me, there is nothing in that song that catches me. Where is the tragic/drama in the song like in LTYH, SMT, WICF, Breathe, Salvation etc? These are typical Roxette ballads with a epic sound. Roxette are famous for that sort of ballads. “Reveal” gives me nothing. I handle it like a bonus, like “Entering your Heart” or so. Nothing great, but you can listen to it if you want.
