Sorry for this silly question but while writing the title to the song ’Como La LLuvia En El Cristal” I had a doubt if to write LL or Ll.... this is really a Spanish Spelling topic... anybody can helP?

The Dutch IJ used to be a character in itself, at least in old typewriters there was a key for the “IJ”. I think it’s not like in Spanish with the “Ll” which is treated as a “digraph”. For example IJmuden I’ve seen it written like that. Time ago, IJ used to be the letter Y, and I guess that’s why it’s still treated as a single character.
For example, in the Dutch Wikipedia, you get to see words like IJs ( http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/IJs ), and IJzer ( http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/IJzer_%28element%29 ) written also in this form, both capital :P
Some Dutch person enlighten us please? :D

Thanks Santi, I’ll have a look a wikipedia and see what I can find.
It’s funny that IJ used to be Y... ’cos obviously Y is more practical so they’re complicating things. Anyhow it gives a touch of exotic for us looking from the outside.
In Italy we only have 21 letters and no special characters only accents which nearly everybody get wrong!!!! è instead of é etc...

Ciao! Good that you want to learn the correct way of spelling! This is an explanation from wikipedia:
Italian uses the acute accent over the letter E (as in perché, why/because) to indicate a front mid-close vowel, and the grave accent (as in tè, tea) to indicate a front mid-open vowel. The grave accent is also used on letters A, I, O, and U to mark stress when it falls on the last letter of a word (for instance gioventù, youth).
So:
correct - perché
wrong - perchè
correct - la penna è rossa
wrong - la penna é rossa
wrong - la penna e’ rossa

Hehe, roxland, it’s funny you mention that habit of surfing wikipedia and learning something for fun. My friends laugh at me when I tell them I read something, usually rather absurd and random, at wikipedia, but now I know I’m not the only one ;)

IJ is in dutch indeed a different letter than Y.
Although some people mix them up sometimes, but that is not correct.
IJ is the combination of “i” and “j” after each other, and is considered to be one letter, although it does not have a separate section in dutch dictionaries.
A word like ijs can be found under the “i”.
There are not so many words in dutch starting with “ij”.
examples are:
ijdel, ijk, ijp, ijs, ijver, ijzel, ijzer, ijzig + additions to this words.
Actually that are all that are listed in my dutch dictionary.
and the earlier mentioned place ijmuiden is also correct.
Dutch words starting with “Y” are:
yack, yaleslot, yankee, yard, y-as, yell, yen, yes, yoga, yoghurt, yogi, ypsilon and yperiet.
A lot of these seem to come from english.

To answer your question, I have finished school in 1999 then I found a job at a computer firm so I didn’t go to university (which i regret now). At the moment I’m considering other jobs as I quit that computer firm. In the meantime I’m just changing little jobs...

Anyway, in Spanish is usual to capitalyze only the first word when referring to the title of a song, book or whatever. “Como la lluvia en el cristal” is just right, too. In any case, if you want to be really “puristic”, use a capital letter only for the first word, and (optionally), the nouns and adjectives, but not the prepositions, conjunctions, etc.
So, in your example, I would write:
“Como la lluvia en el cristal”
or
“Como la Lluvia en el Cristal”
This apply if you want to do it “according to the book” ;) You can still put every word with a capital letter for artistic reasons, for example.
