Do any of the Aussies here support the AFL? Who do you follow - my team is Collingwood - I sooo hope this is our year!!
shannyn77 said on April 5, 2006 09:47:
I LOVE my Magpies! Cos I live in Sydney now I only get to go 2 one game a year when we play the Swans - I miss living in Melbourne!!:(
Santi said on April 5, 2006 12:49:
I like the Magpies cuz when I saw the sport for the first time I liked Saverio Rocca a lot, he was my favourite player, and he played for them :P
shannyn77 said on April 6, 2006 01:10:
He plays 4 the Kangaroos now, but his brother Anthony still plays for us
shannyn77 said on April 6, 2006 06:27:
Nathan Buckley is a CHAMPION - he’s still our captain but it may be one of his last years - it’s fun to talk about the ’Pies with someone lol :)We lost our 1st match last week but hopefully we will get up this week!!
Santi said on April 8, 2006 14:34:
They’re gonna broadcast games here in Spain!! Not only the highlights (that is what we usually get to see) :P
So the first game we’ll see is Essendon Bombers against Sydney Swans. I hope they show some Magpies game soon, I’m so eager! :P
LittleSpooky said on April 8, 2006 16:52:
I don’t have cable tv, so I can’t watch. I have to go to AFL.com.au or the Pies homepage for scores.
Santi said on April 8, 2006 20:13:
I forgot to tell, yes, I know Saverio doesn’t play anymore in Collingwood, but well, when I started liking it he did. So since then I follow the team.
On the other hand, have you watched Lonely Planet’s Six Degrees on Melbourne hosted by Asha Gill?
In the program she meets some Pies’ fans, and they’re making... you know, that banner the players run thru when they come to the field. So she takes part in the making of the banner and later she is invited to the field :D It was cool!
She was quite impressed seeing how little time it took for the players to destroy what had taken ages for them to make! :D
shannyn77 said on April 8, 2006 21:46:
@ Little Spooky - why don’t u subscribe to the Magpies newsletter at www.collingwoodfc.com.au
shannyn77 said on April 18, 2006 01:38:
We beat the Kangaroos yesterday by 77 points - YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! :P
Santi said on April 18, 2006 19:44:
COOL!!!
They didn’t show any ’Pies games in Spain yet... not even highlights, dunno why :S
shannyn77 said on April 25, 2006 23:48:
Yesterday afternoon we beat the Bombers by 17 points - we are 3rd on the ladder so it is looking very good for us this year!!!
shannyn77 said on April 26, 2006 23:06:
Yeah we haven’t beaten them a lot in the past few years so it was a great confidence booster!!!
LittleSpooky said on May 1, 2006 06:59:
I know I should drag my lazy butt over there and look m’self, but you seem to be enjoying yourself ;o)
Where do the Pies stand in rankings?
natasha1 said on May 15, 2006 10:44:
hey guys ive just posted a thread about the tri nations rugby - if any of you could help would be great to hear from you !!!
Santi said on May 21, 2006 07:59:
I saw yesterday the game against Carlton, that was awesome!!! :DD
I mean, more than 100 points in the second half of the game... they erased Carlton! Is there anything better than beating Carlton in style? :P
LittleSpooky said on May 21, 2006 23:21:
Beating the Bombers or the Lions or a couple of other clubs “in style” ;o)
LittleSpooky said on May 23, 2006 06:34:
*lol*
West Coast is who again? The Eagles?
I know Brisbane’s the Lions
Collingwood Magpies
Sidney Swans
Adelaide Crows
Port Adelaide Power (?)
Carlton Blues
Essendon Bombers
Freemantle Dockers (?)
Hawthorn Hawks (their skipper’s protesting a 3 game ban / suspension right now)
Kangaroos belong where? Canberra?
Melbourne... Demons? Now there’s a name for a club.
Richmond Tigers
St. Kilda Saints (that’s appropriate). Of course, when you look at their “sheild” St. K.F.C., looks like St. Kentucky Fried Chicken ;o)
Western Bulldogs
and you can’t forget the Geelong Cats.
Cats, Pies, and Saints almost look alike cuz they’ve got black / white in their uniforms o_O
shannyn77 said on May 23, 2006 09:17:
Kangaroos are officially Nth Melbourne but they play a lot at Canberra now. I am totally impressed with ur knowledge lol - not many Americans could know all 16 clubs ;)
LittleSpooky said on May 23, 2006 17:50:
Thanks. When I had cable and time after I lost my job, I watched Aussie Rules and Aussie Rules Highlights on the sports channel (can’t remember the call letters, but it was 401 on my cable package). I watched a lot of matches, even if it wasn’t the ’Pies. I’d have to say another team I like to watch is the Western Bulldogs. They’ve been “underdogs” (no pun intended) off and on, and they’ve had some really good matches.
Santi said on May 24, 2006 09:19:
I bet it’s gonna be a great match. I could watch some games of the Bulldogs and they play very well. Let’s hope the pies can beat them! :p
ditroia said on June 8, 2006 10:48:
Me I’m a Crows fan, and I can’t believe so may rox fans go for the pies? The pies are very popular, but rarely acheive on the field during the finals. Whereas Roxette aren;t very popular, but make great music :)

shannyn77 said on June 9, 2006 03:09:

shannyn77 said on June 10, 2006 23:57:

shannyn77 said on June 11, 2006 09:17:

Zargo said on June 11, 2006 10:30:

shannyn77 said on June 23, 2006 03:08:
Am excited this week - the Pies are playing Sydney swans in town on Saturday nite - have had tickets 4 ages and it’s the only game I get to see in the year as it is closer to home - hope we smash ’em!!
shannyn77 said on June 25, 2006 06:04:
Yeah - it was great - we won by 13 points - had an excellent time YAY!!
Santi said on July 12, 2006 21:45:
I saw that game on tv here in Spain, it was so great!!! :D
As you can see, we get them with some delay over here :( (It was last week on)
shannyn77 said on July 16, 2006 23:52:
Not going great - lost our last 3 matches and having a slump - fingers crossed it gets better soon :)
Santi said on July 22, 2006 14:51:
Great!!! :D How many games are left to the start of the playoffs??
shannyn77 said on July 31, 2006 11:59:
We beat Hawks by 47 points - on Saturday nite we play Adelaide Crows and they are top of the comp and in great form - hope we can do it!!
Zargo said on August 1, 2006 07:22:
Adelaide’s not in “great” form... we belted them by 82 points!
After we lost to you the week before, as you pointed out :P
@Santi - LOL I’ve never heard the term “playoff” used in relation to AFL footy before!
Santi said on August 1, 2006 07:34:
I am sorry, I just know “international English”. I’m from Spain myself, so don’t expect me to know all the Aussie nuances :D
So how do you call the “playoffs” in this sport?
Room_service said on August 7, 2006 06:08:
I don’t know what are you talking about. But when I was a child I used to support South Australia in a TV show called “It’s a Knockout!”. It was broadcasted here in Argentina under another name. It was dubbed, of course. I supported that team their colour was green , and that’s my favourite colour!
shannyn77 said on August 7, 2006 07:01:
@Little Spooky - we are in 6th position
It’s A Knockout was a game show made here in the ’80s
Room_service said on August 7, 2006 07:08:
Yes, I know. I was 9-11 by then. I really liked it, it was funny. They still repeat those old programes, from time to time (specially in summer).
shannyn77 said on August 19, 2006 02:23:
Last nite we beat Port Adelaide by 2 points in the last 20 seconds - was awesome!! :D
Zargo said on September 30, 2006 03:25:
One hour till the Grand Final starts... Everyone barrack for West Coast with me! (please :P)
If they win, you’ll see a rather cheerful follow-up poat in a few hours... if not, well... it’ll be a melancholy one.
Zargo said on September 30, 2006 09:26:
VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICTORY!!
:D:D:D
It was West Coast Eagles (my team) vs. Sydney Swans.
Those same two teams were in the Grand Final last year as well, and Sydney won that one by four points... this time it was West Coast by just one point... rather tense, exciting stuff, it was.
shannyn77 said on September 30, 2006 09:41:
how close was that.............bloody hate west coast, but hate the swans too - well done anyways
LittleSpooky said on April 5, 2006 05:36:
MAGPIES ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I live in Salt Lake City, UT USA. Never been to Oz. So I don’t know HOW I became a Pie fan
