Roxette + Anders Herrling
ernes said on September 22, 2006 09:00:
I was just thinking about some facts:
After the release of C!B!B! and the world tour, and adding those great songs from the first compilation, Roxette had Anders not only in the band but also in the studio.
Per’s Mazarin, a great success in Sweden was supported by Anders again.
Gyllene Tider sound, always with the help in the studio from Anders.
Marie’s Den Ständiga Resan, a very strong album well produced - Anders involved on it.
Anders was involved in the production.
————–
Have a nice day, Room Service, Son of a Plumber, ... nice albums, some great songs but weak sales in some ways and not the Roxette/Per from the golden area. One of the reasons (apart from bad promotion from EMI) is this change:
Anders –> Christopher
I think this was one of the worst things that happened to Per in his whole career.
It’s a pity Anders decided to leave Roxette.
What do you think?
ChrisWilliams said on September 22, 2006 09:44:
What is it you believe Anders actually brought to the recording process? All bands have their heyday, and Roxette’s happened to be while Anders was playing for them. Nothing more, nothing less. I don’t think bringing Anders back into the frame would make any difference.
ernes said on September 22, 2006 09:52:
Anders was the producer most of the time, as well as Clarence. Just take a look at some booklets and watch some of the documentaries from Mazarin, and so on.
I am mostly talking about the change in the sound and the final touch of the songs.

anders brought out the rock in roxette he really needs to come back
ernes said on September 22, 2006 12:57:
That’s exactly my point of view.
The final touch Anders gave to the songs was the magic touch to make them almost perfect.
ernes said on September 22, 2006 13:05:
And, by the way, I am not complaining at all for the new Roxette. I still like it at all and I think they are making a great job with almost every song.
It’s just, different sound.
So please, don’t acuse me of offending or anything like that .....
I’m more than happy that Roxette is back.

Finally people who have the same thoughts about the production of RoxSongs as me.
Christopher might be great at what he does, but when it comes to Roxette he shouldnt get involved - and Im sure he is. Cos since Room Service (when he played a roll in production) the Rox sound evolved into something that can only be described like this: like the ink cartridge in the printer is finished and this is that last page being printed - barely a smudge on the paper.
Theyve lost their punch. The fullness in their songs are lacking.
Have a listen to TWATG (yes, go on - put it on): thats what Roxette should sound like in 2006.
They might be older, TWATG mite be a Gessle project and “far” from what Roxette supposedly does (not really, right?) - but good god, they aint cold yet!!!
Let Clarence and his second in command take over again, MrG. They created the Roxette sound. Let them continue and grow. If you need help, forget about Lundquist and bring in Illbert (He was fantastic!).
Cheers cheers

i wonder how COY would have sounded with anders... i love this song the way it is, so i think that´s the only thing i owe christopher...
sandyam said on September 22, 2006 16:05:
What’s Anders up to today? I truly think it was a mistake to let Anders leave Roxette but bringing him back now probably won’t make any difference. Roxette is too far off the track as where Anders left them.
coyboyusa said on September 22, 2006 18:27:
i imagine coy in anders hands would have sounded alot like the live version which ruled
regn said on September 22, 2006 18:41:
Anders & Cristopher Really have some influences not only in the Bass , let’s talk about programing & backing vocals *vocal arrangement in the case of Cristopher* you can hear it so clear in Real Sugar for instance.
And IMHO i guess Cristopher hands didn’t did well on Roxette’s proyects.
Debora said on September 22, 2006 19:56:
Maybe the fact that Anders Herrling isn’t working with Roxette anymore has a bit to do with the quality of their latest albums. Probably the fact that EMI doesn’t promote Roxette as much as they need has a bit to do with the present Roxette situation. But surely, the fact that the latest Roxette’s albums aren’t as good as the previous ones is the main reason for what is coming about nowadays. I think Roxette has lost its essence. Anyway, they are much better than many others.

Anders is hot! Thats enough reason for me to have him back!
animalkingdom said on September 22, 2006 22:38:
Ah times change... If Roxette had had the exact same camp as they did in 1991 I don’t think Have A Nice Day nor Room Service would have passed the 1 million mark...
bunny said on September 23, 2006 04:41:
Have A Nice Day is the only album past CBB that has the potential to become a worldwide hit. Sadly, there’s not enough promotion outside of Europe. HAND should really be Roxette’s modern sound ... definitely not OW.
ernes said on September 24, 2006 07:27:
ok, ncurran, thats one of the main reasons to have him back ;o) I agree with you. But also, he is a great professional and knows what people want to hear.
Room_service said on September 24, 2006 07:51:
Maybe Anders was hot some years ago. But no anymore! He has got older, like we all. Anyway, I don’t think he would make any difference in the arrangements or the production. That’s more up to Per, he is the one that takes the decisions after all.
coyboyusa said on September 24, 2006 14:26:
if they had organized a tour behind hand it would have easily outsold cbb it was by far one of their best albums ever, lol i know this is repetitive...but honeslty anyhting anders put his hands on has this more organic sound, less synthesizers more live instruments
ernes said on September 24, 2006 21:22:
I don’t think HAND was a better album than CBB, at all. Many people (not me) felt disappointed after hearing HAND. That didn’t happen with CBB.
Anyway, the topic here is about Anders involve in Roxette sound.
dubacik said on September 25, 2006 07:28:
Anders is really great what’s concering Rox sound and I am really unhappy he is not working on the sound of Roxette anymore. Would be great to see him back. But I doubt it ever happens...

Just follow the link below and listen to Brainpool-Chris´s crappy bassplaying and unimaginative backing vocals. Enough said! Ill sign the “bring Anders Herrlin back”-petition ANY time.

Every time I follow a link like that I feel like being 5 years old... “please daddy, pleeease, tell me what’s written over there!”
*sigh*
Life is mean :-(
, why isn’t it some nice german band, that makes such wonderful music...? ;-)
Santi said on October 17, 2006 08:07:
Wow! Interesting article, Max! :D
Seems he did have a lot of influence in Roxette according to this sentence:
“Per kom med en demo, Clarence skötte tangenterna och Anders gjorde ljudet.”
davidjjanderson1981 said on October 19, 2006 22:21:
Bring back Anders AND Michael Ilbert, Not too sure about Christpher Lundquists production on the songs!!
There weren’t many involved in the new recordings of OW and REVEAL.
CLARENCE, CHRISTPHER, PER AND MARIE, JENS JANSON compared to there HAND album or previous albums.

Ander is great but the worse thing was EMI promotion i guess...
