I saw happened to see this topic shortly after it was posted, and should have commented then. I didn’t, because I was thought at the time I was going to write something more than just a comment in a discussion topic.

Most of what has been written here is ludicrous.

The answer to the question posed as the discussion topic is an EMPHATIC “No, it was NOT an intended leak.”

Well, now to the topic.
I believe that it was an intended promotional leak. It happened with Room Service too. Correct me if I’m wrong, but there wasn’t any snippet for TCOTH. Then the whole album was leaked (some versions said that Per was the one who put them on the net). A few years later, ATAY came. There was a 30 secs snippet, but there was not leak. The same happened with ON. When Mazarin was released there were some snippets, but no leak. What about SOAP? There were snippets and, once again, no leak.

Now, there is no snippet, but there’s a leak.

I’m pretty sure it was intended to be this way.

What do you think?

But with TCOTH there WAS a snippet... the problem with that one was that by the time the snippet came, WEEKS after everyone could already sing the whole song by heart, no-one cared about the snippet! TCOTH and “Room Service” were truly disastrous leaks because they happened so far in advance of the official releases. Did it make any difference? Maybe - TCOTH was Roxette’s biggest hit in Sweden in ages... but I don’t think anyone at EMI/D&D/Rox would intentionally make the full, high quality single available that way...

That said, some savvy record people are trying to deal with leaks by leaking low quality versions of tracks with talking or yelling or whatever in them so that people will still be interested in buying the proper single when it becomes available...

This was well planned. Herr Mazarin/Reveal2006 is not one of us, we don’t have access to the EMI vaults. So, the person behind that name must work for the label, or is someone very close to Per. Or Per himself. I am not worried about this situation, I knew this would happen.

Question: why so very few mods’ voices around here lately? I think they try to delimit themselves somehow from the whole leaking story. Any other explanation for their silence would sound...ehm...paranoid? yes, that’d be the word. I hate conspiracy-theories...I never believed in any.

Marie and Per said in an interview that they were furious over Room Service’s leak. I don’t see why there would be a deliberate leak, because why not then get Per to “give” it to us and make himself look good?

Fact is:
No one in the world cares about Roxette, Per and Maries projects, but the hard-core fans (us). We are the nerds that go into an online forum to discuss Roxette and most of us have done that for YEARS.

It was us that were pissed of with recent news and I believe that Per wanted to put a smile on our faces and leaked the songs..

The mods will know, as they can see the IP address etc the user used. But of course they are not going to comment on it.. because they know.. ;-)

Intended, totally intended. Only the most signficative songs were leaked, and, as I said before, pure marketing. We are now happy and really looking forward the Box.

I remember that somewhen back in 2002 Marie’s demos leaked and everybody (or nearly everybody) loved Bad Moon. Two years later we had this song on her album. Is this also a coincidence? ;-)

Reveal 2006 leaked the snippets, not the whole songs, but maybe he/she and Herr Mazarin are one and the same, but Reveals addy is on the list of emails, as well as mine. It didn’t work by the time I got there.

Anyway, doesn’t Per want our money at the end of the day? Why would he leak it, when it would be risking that money (people just might not bother after the new songs leak)

When TCOTH was leaked, it was available on the, at this time, illegal musicportal Napster. Later some other RS songs followed. As I can remember all songs had a short break, lag in the middle of the song. The quality of that songs were good except the short break...

And in my opinion some SOAP-songs were leaked too, in bad quality on some sites and on kazaar. But can´t remember exactly, maybe it was after the swedish release.

And there is another point:
Who cares about us, to offer these songs? It was only offered for the dailyroxette-readers, not for the public. And it was a short time, when the songs were sended.
Why a emi-worker or a closer friend of a friend should care about us? What´s the goal for that campaign?

In my opinion it could be a test for that songs. We are fans, but also the hardest critics. A “small” circle of critics and fans, who could help to design a promotion-strategy for the single and the Box...but maybe it was only a friend of a friend...who knows.

Just to make this clear, I am not the same person as this “herr_mazarin”. The only thing I did was e-mail two snippets (27 seconds each) to some people who requested them. I NEVER sent the complete songs to anyone.

My god, when a record is released there are more than just two or three people involved (EMI, Pressing-manufactiory and so on). And ONE is enough to amplify it through the net. That’s the whole story. Nothing more, nothing less. And who ever it was, I believe the earth will go on turning around and around....

what irks me is it was implied that the tdr staff had access to the box and new tracks, them mods got real silent after pers response regarding the box and then miraculously the whole songs were on the net....i don’t play into conspiracy theories i just want some truth

Even if it was “implied” that we had the box, it still is a fact that we don’t. No one would be happier than me. I have to sign Lars’ statement - this was no intetional leak. Why on earth would all 14 tracks leak??

Whoever made these songs leak, doesn’t really matter. But I think the date they leaked was pure intention. Exactly 4 years after Marie’s illness. This can’t be just a coincidence!

When the tracks leaked at first, i did suspect that it might be an ’inside job’. Not by the TDR team, but by Per and EMI. I thought that perhaps because the mood in the rox forum world has been pretty down recently, that this was their way of lifting us all up again and hyping up the release.
The more I read about it though, i really dont think this leak was intentional. There is obviously a ’weak link’ within EMI Sweden, but it could have been anyone really down to a worker at the CD pressing plant. Who knows? I don’t think it will do much damage to sales anyway....this happens to every artist nowadays. If it hadn’t leaked now it would have happened closer to the release date, and people still would have had the choice (then or now) to buy the releases legitimately or download them for free.
There are 2 sides to the coin. While Roxette/EMI might be angry about the music being ’stolen’, there are people like me who was dead set against buying the new releases, whereas this leak has persuaded me otherwise, and I have already put in an order for the Rox Box. I will probably buy the single as well, as I would like to support what I think is a great song. I will have to order it online though.....not only because it probably wont be released in the UK, but I would also be too embarrassed to buy a single with that cover in a record shop

TDR would be freakin morons to have been the ones behind the leak. They have a good relationship with Per, Dimberg and EMI, why would they blow that?? If Dimberg knew TDR had an advance copy, and the songs leaked out the next day, they’d know immediately it was Tev, Jud or LEO. Also, TDR had The Change before all of us...and nothing from The Change was ever leaked!!

I’m guessing it was someone at EMI, a lower down worker who got their hands on the stuff. I think it’s happening to every major artist, not just Roxette. As I said, if it was a deliberate leak it would be smarter to just have Per come on here and give us the songs.

I fully agree with you Lars-Erik! As soon as I see a grey or locked topic I immediately want to know what’s inside, not just on this board. I think if you guys locked this it would look to the board as if you had something to hide (which you obviously don’t). I hate locking topics unless they are obvious repeats of an existing one. To me it’s censorship and I don’t like it. I never lock anything on my 3 boards except for once deleting a fight that went too far.

Sorry to keep this topic alive, but I just wanna say something. I’ve been an active roxette fan o nthe net since 97, and there have been leaked songs since HAND came out, however not this early and not at this quality and amount.

In this day and age we shouldn’t be suprised as it happens to a lot of artists.

I firmly believe it is someone from EMI [Probably Sweden], who is a fan and is leaking these songs.

I quite like what I’ve heard, and it hasn’t in any way changed my mind about buying/not buying the ROX BOX. However there are some out there that now having these songs, won’t buy the new releases, but they would have obtained the songs sooner or later anyway.

I won’t say who or where I got the songs from but I wasn’t planning on spreading them to other TDR readers as I thought there would be a rapidshare link around the place anyway. I was planning to send One Wish to a few friends who are sort of rox fans, that wouldn’t buy the album anyway and perhaps to some radio stations closer to the release to create some buzz.

Needless to say I won’t be sending them to anyone, [except perhaps 1 or 2 radio stations, as I can’t see how it would hurt].

Finally I would like to say that this leak isn’t too damaging in the long run and has had some positive effects.

they know, we’ll buy the stuff anyway. so they let em leak just to check if the traxx are what we want. if we go nuckin futs cuz they’re great, we’ll deliver some free promo by voting for the singles on radio stations and tellin everyone about the new rox stuff.

It never crossed through my mind that someone from TDR leaked the songs. When I said it was intended, I was talking about someone from EMI or related to EMI. As far as I know there’s nobody related to EMI around here.
