PER ROCKS!!!

I’m the last person you’d expect to be starting this thread, but Marie has a thread and I think Per deserves one. I admire someone who can stand up for himself and I have a lot of respect for him the way he dealt with Marie’s illness the last few years and the time he took to give us little pieces of news here and there when nobody else would. He didn’t back down when everyone was against him these last few days, and the man can totally kick ass!!!
Go Per!!!!

@Sparv: Hafta agree with you - the tracklisting of the box is nothing for hardcore fans to get excited about, no question about it. But I just don’t understand this sense of entitlement some fans have, the “THEY OWE US MORE” mentality - when you bought all those CDs, was there a gun to your head? Were you putting some sort of down payment on future releases, customized to your liking? Did you make Per sign a contract saying he would let you dictate future tracklistings in exchange for buying his singles?
nate said on September 3, 2006 02:05:
Well, I certainly respect him as a musician, and also for the way he dealt with Marie’s illness - but his most recent comments on TDR leave a lot to be desired.
Sparvogamarie said on September 3, 2006 02:15:
Fully agree Roxtexanet: the THEY OWE US attitude is a little sick IMO. I think as far as what they owe us: they owe it to us to treat us with respect and dignity, if we meet them or whatever. I think Per has more than done that, during Marie’s illness who was the only person who took the time to realize that we were worried, and had the compassion to give us news when his hands were tied regarding how much he could tell us?
As far as albums go: he and Marie owe us nothing. They are artists and they make it how they want it. Per made a good point that demos are not made for us, so why should we expect them? Yeah, it would be smarter of Per and EMI to make this box more interesting for fans, because it would sell more that way. But not because he OWES it to anyone. What does he owe us???? Saying we made him rich is rubbish. Fans only make up about 20% of an artist’s sales, I read somewhere. And if we did make him rich, it’s because we enjoyed his music and wanted to buy it. We didn’t donate anything to him.
I admire Per for having the balls to stand up to everyone here, and for that he rocks.

Sparvogamarie, I agree with you 100% at this point :)

Wouldn’t necessarily call it standing up to us, but hey! I’ll go with that vibe!
Sparvogamarie said on September 4, 2006 03:33:
Don’t get me wrong - his attitude was rude, condescending and arrogant. The reason I support him over this is that many fans deserved it with their tantrums and carrying on, that descended into a major attack on Per. For that reason, he was justified in losing it and I know exactly how he felt. As I said already though, I think he should have also added that he knew it wasn’t *all* fans who carried on that way, how unfair for the fans who were respectful.
nate said on September 4, 2006 04:51:
Well, perhaps things did get a little out of hand. Some of the comments were pretty mean. I do not think it justifies it; however, I can certainly better understand why he responded this way.
Sparvogamarie said on September 4, 2006 06:45:
Make a website, or write a story, and you’ll soon understand how he feels. I’m currently writing a fanfiction on a website and a particular character is not doing what everyone wants her to do. I get all these morons writing “MAKE HER DO THIS” bla bla bla, and getting upset if the story doesn’t go in the right direction. With my websites, I had one chick who emailed me every week demanding my 2 sites be updated. I even got one dude write to me “Your Marie website is great, but I have a suggestion: more news on her illness.” I was like...where am I meant to get THAT???
What I’m saying is people can be very demanding when you’re creating something and you can lose your temper, and I don’t blame Per for it. Ok...as a 47 year old man who has been in the business for 25 years or so you might expect a tad more professionalism, but...well...he didn’t?

Everyone one flips out now and again, but for those who know Per well enough they know what kind of sense of humour he has!
Do you think he really cares what people think…. TDR does not even represent half of the Roxette fanbase is my guess!
Starrox said on September 4, 2006 08:39:
Sorry, Sparvogamarie, but unless you went ahead and stated that this character would do one thing and then it ended up doing another in the final story, you can hardly compare the two situations! Same for the website thing - absolutely not the same!
miss-misery said on September 4, 2006 11:59:
Poor Per, I’m beginning to feel sorry for him.
I don’t agree with his letter, I’m disappointed with the Rox-Box... But I think that things are really getting out of hand.
Sparvogamarie said on September 5, 2006 04:06:
*sigh* Starrox, way to miss the point. It doesn’t have to be an IDENTICAL situation. My example was that fans can get overdemanding when they want something from you...an updated site, a story, material on an album. Another example is HAND....has everyone forgotten the reaction to that one? Fans went CRAZY slamming that album because it didn’t fit the “Roxette mould” or our image of what a Roxette album should be. Same thing happened with Marie’s The Change. We fans are very quick to flame Roxette when things don’t go our way. A boring tracklist is hardly an insult to fans, it’s dull and disappointing but Per didn’t do it to hurt us and we’re egotistical if we think he did.
Miss-Misery: I agree, I feel sorry for him too. It’s not his fault he underestimated the fury of the fans.

I still think he’s a better musician than I ever WILL be.
I am really going out on a limb here, but I want to apologize for those clowns who took it to the extreme. Yes, you are ALLOWED to be upset about it. Yes, you can voice your opinion. Just don’t be a weasel. Neil and others did it the CORRECT way:
Adult, dignified, and intelligent. You know who you are when I say that the childish temper tantrum throwing fools are the ones responsible for the “backlash” as it were.
So, I apologize.
Starrox said on September 5, 2006 16:40:
Way to show you still don’t get why the vast majority of people that are/were complaining about the tracklist and Per’s message is upset about it, Sparvogamarie...
ally77 said on September 5, 2006 18:58:
I should imagine Per is just laughing at some of the stuff he read!
Sparvogamarie said on September 6, 2006 04:48:
I’ve said several times I think the tracklist is boring, I called it a “Box O’Crap” and said I won’t buy it. If you read Ncurran’s article I also posted an agreeing message to him, so let’s not put words in my mouth and say that I didn’t understand. So yes, I do get why fans were upset but as Spooky said it perfectly above, some fans took it to the extreme with their temper tantrums. Anyone would think Per had killed someone they way some people carried on. They had a right to say what they did, but they got the consequence of Per’s temper, and the rest of us are paying the price because Per’s gonna think twice before doing something nice (eg. Bad Hair Day) ever again.
miss-misery said on September 6, 2006 12:10:
I think Sparvogamarie is right. Some people just took it far too seriously. I think the problem is that some of you used to have Gessle so idealised that when he did something you didn’t like (the Rox-Box, the letter) you thought it was the end of the world and began to think that he was the most evil person in the world. When some of you used to think that he was the most wonderful human being ever on earth!! Why don’t we relax just a little? It’s just music, don’t you think?
Personaly, I’m not happy with the Rox-Box issue, but I do appreciate that Per showed his face at TDR. I don’t agree with some points of his letter, but I’m also aware of the fact that most artits would have never showed their face in similar cases, and Gessle did.

Good point MissMisery! I didn’t think of it like that...but maybe you’re right! I’m not upset with him because I didn’t think of him as a god like some others. If Marie had written that letter, I probably would have cried LOL!
I read the interview where he supposedly “promised” us all these things, but I didn’t read into it as much as everyone else did. I didn’t see him PROMISE anything...just chat about what he was thinking of doing, and some ppl took his word for gospel, and crucified him when it didn’t happen.
