Poor Per and Marie

I have the feeling something got out of hand...

Shouldn’t we actually thank Roxette for twenty years of great music? For never giving up even when there were record-companies and fate working against them?
Who said a twentieth anniversary meant that the artist had to cherish the fans? Who made this law?

Please don’t get me wrong, I, too, am not very impressed with the roxbox and probably won’t buy it, because I have little money and can’t afford to buy something like it just for the sake of it’s booklet.
Who adviced Roxette to make this release? I thought from the beginning that this RoxBox was to be really huge and that it had to contain really really rare things to make me actually buy such an (expectedly) expensive item. And now the tracklist convinced me not to spend my money on it.

But still, this is no reason to be angry or resentful... rather I feel pitty for Roxette because they seem to have been badly adviced and it seems like there will be a desasterous 20th anniversary. Poor Per and Marie :-(

Without the fans - No Roxette. If we hadn’t bought all their records all these years, no one would have remembered them by now.

The fans are showing their thankfullness when they are buying their records.

Roxette needs their fans more than the fans needs Roxette.

“this is no reason to be angry or resentful”

Umm... I’d say there’s reason enough! What the f was that Gessle thinking... Not us, anyway.

I agree with you GT_85 , Roxette need their fans...
But still it’s them who actually did the work all those years. You make it sound like it was a pain to buy their CDs and that we only did it to make them survive as a band... Well I certainly enjoyed the music, too.

Of course I have enjoyed their music. The first time I bought it. And the second.

Now it’s the third time or even fourth time we get many of these songs. We all KNOW there are so many songs in ther archive that we have not heard.
If they would have put them in the box it would have been a plesure to spend the money on the Box.

You know, you don’t buy the same book three times, you don’t buy the same DVD three times. You buy it once, maybe twice if their is some specials in it, and you can read/see it all over again. Their is absolutley no need to have the sam thing three times.

poor per and marie , MY ARSE poor them, there rich beyond dreams thanks to us, i hope they care.
I dont want blood off them, from it. just something worth our money and what we deserve. What do the fans deserve you tell me ?

Even per and marie should open there eyes and see what there giving use isnt fair at all. Im not rich and most fans are not aswell. One time i would of supported them no matter, This is just pain bad and wrong. As for that cover OMG they must see what everyone else does........

haha, I meant poor rather in the idealistic sense of the word...

but I totally agree with what you say about the cover pics... oh boy... I still hope they’re crackin a joke there :-(

I think what Roxeanne is trying to say is that, even if it is legitimate for us fans to be really disappointed about the rox box, and I am too, there’s no need to flame Roxette for a mistake and surely there’s no need to be angry with Per as if he was the only person responsable for this. I thank God that Roxette are finally back and Marie is happy to record with Per again. Of course I was expecting a nice rox-box, I’ll probably buy it at a later time (if it remains like this) when it will cost less or maybe I will only get the rare songs from a digital music shop.

Don’t get me wrong I still think the box should be something for the fans with rare material and I agree with all the ones who complain but the situation is getting a little out of hand, I’m sure EMI/Per or who’s in charge for the box is thinking about it right now, let’s just wait and stop the flaming for now!

honestly alot of us feel like we’re being taken advantage of, especially fans outside of europe who have spent alot of money collecting stuff we can’t get in our countries for one reason or another, and after all that we get a box of album trax? I have ben a blind supporter of everything they do cause they are the best out there, but this screams lets finish out our record contract and vanish......and it’s brought me to tears, stuff like this never upsets me but right now i have rum n coke in my hand and I am welled up....i’ve never felt so let down in such a long time

*whispers* I don’t wanna cause a panic, but i get the feeling there are a few people around rox-land that aren’t too crash hot on this rox box thingo!

lol Zargo!! Very funny :-)))))

Well said, roxlad!

Although I start to understand the excitement... I didn’t think of people actually living in countries where you can’t buy the Roxstuff.... must be frustrating.

Edit:
Oh and by the way: Rum is no solution, neither is coke! :-P

Thanks!

Oh and how about chocolate-spread? That’s better than rum and coke!

well i ran out of coffee and nothing goes better with mint chocolate chip pop tarts thna rum and coke lol besdies its been a depressing 4 str8 days of rain here the box news made things so much worse

I do feel sorry for them after all the comments here, but at the end of the day 20 years is a long time, so I can partly understand why people are annoyed!

In a way I feel bad about it too. You can tell from the quotes from the video shoot that Marie seems quite excited to work with roxette again, and the thought of that makes me excited too, for all the possibilities that brings with it.

I hope that Per wasn’t crying into his cornflakes this morning, but i somehow doubt it. I hope that he does realise what a big disappointment this has been for the fans. We are the consumers after all and as the saying goes “the customer is always right”. After the money i have spend on Roxette over the years, which must run into the thousands rather than hundreds of pounds when i count all the records i have bought along with concert tickets and travel, merchandise, etc it is a little annoying to be offered this box for “the fan who thinks they have everything”. Well i certainly have the 50 odd albums tracks, thankyou very much.

Having said that, a lot of work might have gone into the packaging, putting it altogether over the past couple of months, and per might be disappointed by our reaction. I just hope that he can take the criticism constructively and that some lessons might be learned for future projects

I also feel bad for Marie, she is so much looking forward to it and they go and release this xxx.. I doubt she had anything to say there, or better said, I doubt she knows what is available and what is not :(

I am thankful for what Roxette has done to me all over years, but I can not help for feeling disappointed with the tracklisting from Rox Box.

I love Roxette’s music very very much. Listen to it every singel day. One of the first things I did when i traveled to Australia last year was to buy “Room Service” in a record store in Sydney. And i also went to all the places they’ve recorded videos at in that area.

With that said, I think you understand I’m a big fan. BUT! I do not want to buy the same thing over and over again. I want to have something new for the money. And since we all know there are so many songs we haven’t heard, and obviosly, we won’t hear for a while, I became really disapointed when i first saw the tracklist.

Per is a big Tom Petty fan, I don’t think he would like it if he realesed something like this.

the Bon Jovi box was WAYYYYY better !
50 unreleased songs, including 40 never heard !
That was something made for the fan, really

Shame on you Per !

Ehem, why are all of you blaming just Per?
Roxette are Per Gessle and Marie Frediksson, aren’t they?
So they are both responsible of this. I don’t know if Marie participated in the election of the songs, but she’s part of the project. Or at least she should be. I’m beginning to doubt it.
I feel a bit sad about the comments, and I guess they feel upset about this. Nevertheless, people are upset too, and they have the right to express it.

A true, hard-out fan of Roxette wouldn’t care what they release, even if it means recycling old releases, just as long as they get their name out there. The world has too much crap lately (in my opinion).

Let them do whatever it takes to improve it once again. To go as far as threatening to boycott buying the new releases shows how loyal some fans are. This is probably the reason (as well as EMI USA) Roxette haven’t been in the worldwide arena since 1994, people.

Support goes a long way.

And by releasing the same old songs again will make them big in “the big arena”?

The americans didn’t want the Roxette Hits in 2000 (DBU), neither in 02-03 (TP/BH). Why would they want it now? The old fans are getting older, and have most likely forgotten Roxette. The best way to do a proper comeback there is not to do the same mistake over and over again.

A true fan couldn’t care what they release?! It IS the TRUE FANS who CARES!! On the other hand, I do not think the general public cares wheter “Monster Hangover” or “Always breaking my heart” is in the box. But the fans care!! So why not please the fans?

I do not agree at all with you. But that’s what’s make TDR a good place. Everyone can say what they want to.

GT85 > Why would a Greatest hits work in the states now? Those albums was not promoted at all as I have understood. TPH wasn’t even released in the states I think? Also there has the last year been a lot of covers on the list in the USA. Like listen to your heart and Fading like a flower, those songs probably could make people interested in Roxette again with the right promotion, like commercials that plays those songs to inform USA about who made them and that they are back! This could open the door to a new successful release in the US next year!

“I hope that Per wasn’t crying into his cornflakes this morning”

LOL Ncurran!! I imagine he wasn’t crying, but I could believe it if something to the effect of “F**ing fans, what more do they f**ing want from us??!!” I don’t think it was deliberate that the Rox Box is so crappy, they (Per & EMI) probably thought there was lots of gr8 stuff on there but just didn’t realize how much the fans already have (and how high our expectations are...) Hopefully now that Per has seen the reaction, he’ll step up and “throw us a bone.”

I also agree with Jud, what a welcome back for Marie. Thank goodness she doesn’t come here and I hope Per has the sense not to tell her about the outcry over the box. Marie already has such a low opinion of fans, and now I see why. For ages I have questioned why she turned her back on us during her illness...but when I step back and see how we behave, I don’t blame her one bit. All she sees is our constant demand for more more more.

Don’t get me wrong, the box sucks buckets. I can totally understand the reaction when we’ve gone 4 years without Rox, worried and prayed over Marie, waited semi-patiently all this time, and got something stupid in return. But, it’s one release out of (hopefully) many more to come. It’s a good sign that Marie is up and around and ready to work and it’s (fingers crossed) only the beginning of more Rox to come.

“I do not agree at all with you. But that’s what’s make TDR a good place. Everyone can say what they want to.”

Funny to read these words from you. I guess I should add “as long as they agree with me or they are not mods” ;)

I think it’s OK to critisise the box’ tracklist. I personally was expecting more. Of course I knew that it would include some hits and other album tracks, but we have heard about this “great” piece for almost a decade and when I read “rare stuff and demos”, then I do believe it is R A R E stuff and demos, not those that everybody has thanks to bootlegs and b-sides! In the end “Myth” is costing approx 50€ ;)

I don’t think this is a great demand either because they (Per + Marie) don’t have to do anything to deliver these rare tracks, they are there recorded for a long while already, it’d be the work of some EMI worker to remaster the tracks and actually add them to the CD ;)

Ah well, it will be added to the list of Rox&Related items that I don’t have in my collection.

“I hope that Per wasn’t crying into his cornflakes this morning”

Neil that did make me laugh! :)

I think I thought of nothing else for the last 24 hours, it’s like being 13 again!

When I really think on it..... I think how thankful I am to actually see Per and Marie record together again, I was one of those people who said they would never work together again.... so secretly I am really pleased, and Marie just looks great after all she has been through!

I think it’s ok to criticize too, I think just certain ppls are waaaaay tooooo upset over it!!!! I’m like “Oh that tracklist sucks ass. Ooh yay, Patrik Isaksson’s on the radio. What’s for dinner?” It’s like: care factor = zero. I knew it would suck, and it does.

*sits down and waits patiently for Marie’s next solo album*

’”F**ing fans, what more do they f**ing want from us??!!”’

Hahaha! We ’f**ing fans’ would like to ask the question ’Do you think we wouldn’t have noticed the ballast of album tracks in our excitement at ’new’ stuff (which most of us have had before) and a few genuine new bits?’

Well?

On the more positive side, I am looking forward to new stuff-I’ll be taking a paper bag with me though to hide the cover. Or I’ll buy a 12” and hide it in that, oh I don’t know I’ll work something out

“F**ing fans, what more do they f**ing want from us??!!”

A proper Rox-Box would have been nice :)

Or an apology for this one!

*sits down to join Sparvogamarie while patinently waiting for Marie’s next soloalbum*

:-) :-)

Judith; What I mean is that now, with this release, people are not so happy on TDR. If this would have been the old Gyllene Tider forum everyone would have thought it was the best ever. Cos they “loved” everything Per touched, without to question themself what it was. Cos if you dont love everything you’re not a real fan... What I like with TDR is that people can criticize without being hanged.

How fun is it when everyone thinks the same about every single thing all the time?

And as long as no one get’s upset here i think it’s good.

And if you have something agains what I write, please tell me.

And hey, I don’t think Per and Marie gets very sad. They should be happy they have involved fans. They have record companies to work with that are 1000 times worse than all of us together.

I don’t have anything against you, I just think it’s funny to read sentences like “what I like with TDR is that people can criticize without being hanged” written by you, when you are “hanging” Lars (& TDR) for the article on front page. I wonder if you’ll also be one of those who’ll end up buying the Box as well ;)

guess in the end people won’t have much choice if they want to get the few new tracks on a proper cd.

Am personally thrilled by Roxette’s comeback and are still hoping that at least we might see some more releases to follow (Borgholm ’89, Sydney ’91, a 1994 and 2001 concert on DVD) and proper b-sides when REVEAL will be released as a single.

“guess in the end people won’t have much choice if they want to get the few new tracks on a proper cd.”

I may be mistaken, so maybe someone can correct me, but aside from the Box wasn’t there also going to be another GH released alongside it? Will the 2 new tracks be on there if it is? It would make more sense, since even if the Box was fantastic the general public wouldn’t buy it. So there may still be a chance for you to buy it on CD if that’s true. I wouldn’t buy it, I already have Don’t Bore Us + Ballad and Pop hits, I don’t need another copy of IMHBL.

I bet Per is cursing the internet right about now, 10 years ago we had no choice but to buy this Box O’Crap to get all the stuff we don’t have, now we have Limewire and Ares.... :)

yes there is a GH as well, out the same day and you can have “normal” or “deluxe” (article is on front page, sorry too lazy to look for it..)

That’s ok Jud, I just wasn’t sure if I remembered it right. If the GH is released in OZ, after a few months GH albums go down to about $10 so I might get it then. If it had really nice photos...and I mean really nice, then I’d get it sooner. But at least we can get the new tracks without buying the box.

Hey Per! I know it’s too late to change the tracklist, but why not make it come with a T-shirt or SOMETHING to make it interesting???

The only new song we cant get without buying the box is “Myth”. Of course they could just make it downloadable on itunes as an individual track, but i doubt they will do that, it would make it too simple.
