Smoking Ban

As of 4am Sunday 2nd July, Guernsey is becoming smoke free. This means that Smoking will be banned in pubs, bars, clubs and all workplaces. As someone who is always trying to give up, I’m actually looking forward to it. But I am going out tonight, Friday and Saturday just to be able to smoke one last time.

I know Scotland has already had the ban in place for a few months now. What’s it going like?

If your town/area decided on the ban what do you think the public reaction will be?

Its going well up here. I dont mind going out for a cigarette and you smoke a lot less.....instead of 2 with every pint i end up having 3 or 4 the whole night. It also makes me feel less guilty about blowing the smoke in everyones faces if i am out with non smokers. At home i always smoke outside aswell, so i never really smoke indoors at all these days....hopefully i can give up completely at some point in the near future

I don’t know how I feel about that. Utah’s trying to do the same thing.

On one hand, I say thank you.

On the other, I say the goverment needs to butt the f*ck outta everyone’s lives. I didn’t ask you to protect me... you keep screwing me over!

I think that it is good ,cause then People with Asthma(Like me) would not have so much problems with
Asthma attacks when eating at a Restaurant!

good frigginarette and cigar smoke is nasty

hell ban away sooner the better. I had someone walking on the street infront of me today and she was blowing out and it was backing right up in my face (how RUDE)! Do i want to smoke no so why on earth do i have to have in my face , in what is fresh air. hate it, really bugs me.

although for those who have tried to stop i would think it is very hard.

i cant wait! bring it on! Smoking is one of my pet hates, sometimes i feel like screaming at charvers who insist on smoking over their pushchairs.

We’re half way there in Australia, i think next year or so there’s supposed to be a complete ban.

I think it’s great. At least non-smokers don’t have to suffocate when they go out or when they’re at work.

I realise it might seem like the government trying to force things on us, but in the end i think the benefit is probably alot better than the inconvenience to smokers. It’ll save non-smokers having to put up with smoked out places and may cause some smokers to give up or atleast cut back.

Actually, what ive found in scotland is that most smokers are for it aswell, myself included. It gives us a chance to cut down, and hopefully stop....as previously the pub was one of the biggest temptations to light up in

hmm.....i grew up with a smoking parent and hated it...however...i don’t necessarily agree with the smoking ban. i never have and never will smoke. i think it infringes on a lot of rights, now drinking and driving is a bigger issue....people who drink and drive are effing idiots!

@spooks......hello from your neighbor in colorado! our ban starts on 1. juli.

Well i dont think my rights have been infringed by stopping me smoking in a public building. Its politeness more than anything else. I always felt guilty about smoking around non smokers anyway. However i do think the law is slightly too strict, as it doesnt even allow smoking rooms in airport, workplaces, etc which i think is taking it a little too far as these areas are totally cut off from other members of the public

this maybe a rumor, but heard a law may be introduced to ban smoking in your car.....my sister may have told me. it’s just kind of scary....where do public and private domains’ begin and end?

on a lighter note.....GO GERMANY!!!!! i wish i were back over there.

I am a non smoker, but I don’t mind the smell of smoke.... the only issue I don’t like is how it lingers on your clothes etc....

I shall often sit in my neighbours who is a chain smoker for an hour...

Does not really bother me on a night out etc... not to keen on it in a restaurant...

Here, it has start May 30th and since then everyone who smoke or own a bar is against it.
The owners say that up to 50% of bars will close their doors. The funny thing is that you can’t smoke cigaretts anywhere but you can find more and more cigar rooms where cigaretts are prohibited. Go figure...

By the way, I’m not a smoker and didn’t even try it once.

We had one in Columbus several years ago, but it only applies to our city. Some suburbs do not have a ban. Well, our band says if the business is 100% family owned then it can allow smoking, but most businesses aren’t. It is really nice because I hate the smoke in restaurants especially.
