South America

I’ve just realized I know almost everything about Roxette’s success in Europe, US, Canada and Australia, so I’m quite interested in other places... So, can anyone tell me how the singles from HAND and RS were successful in Latin America? (somehow I don’t care about singles from 1989 to 1994, cuz it was Roxette’s golden era). I only know MATAH was a hit in some territories in LA but that’s all

Well, “Breathe” were played a lot at “Antena 1” radio station here in Brazil (and I think it was the only radio station that played it...)

Here in Argentina we don’t have proper, commercial CD singles. Only a few are released, and in very limited quantity.
“Wish I Could Fly” was one of those scarce CD singles that were released here. HAND was very promoted in the radio. There were big advertisments in the stores and even in the streets. Also adds in the main newspapers, whole page ads in fact. WICF was very popular, along Anyone. Stars was not that successful. When the expanded version of HAND was out, both Quisiera volar and Alguien were played many times in the radio. Well, it was the “comeback” of Roxette, after 3 years of silence (since “Baladas en español”, that was very sucessfull too). Per and Marie even visited the country to promote the album. They were at some TV shows. You know, a brief interview and some playback performances.
On the other hand, Room Service was not promoted at all. It just appeared in the stores, that’s all. No promo, no ads. I guess TCOTH was played in the radio, by request of the fans. But I am not totally sure.
Same happened to TBH and TPH. They were released but not promoted. No idea if ATAY was played in the radio or not, because I never listen to radio (don’t like the music they play). But Opportunity Nox was used in a TV show, played when the host entered in the studio. It was the intro of song, I remember it very well!

Maybe it’s time you start listening to the radio - you might just learn a thing or two and save others from having to explain everything.

Maybe it’s time to get a life, you need one. You have a morbid pleasure annoying people who’s NOT TALKING TO YOU. I don’t know why you are always attacking me, whatever I say. Anyway, I am not into this kind of queer war.
Back to the topic, please.

I read at some site I don’t remember that “Breathe” were played a lot at “Antena 1” radio station here in Brazil... Actually I didn’t listen to it, because I NEVER LISTEN TO RADIO (DON’T LIKE THE MUSIC THEY PLAY)...

I agree, Here in Argentina HAND was very successful... but RS wasn’t. MTV played WICF, Anyone and even Stars a few times... but since then no rox videos at all.
“Much music”, promoted RS a lot, the played the three videos many times, they even (the three of them) became number 1 in the Much Music Countdown. This channel also broadcasted a “Roxette special” show, where Marie and Per Talked about each song in RS. It was really cool. Much also played ATAY and ON a few times.

In Chile HAND wasn’t successful at all but WICF and Alguien were played a lot of time on radio + a few articles about the album and some review where you can read, Finally, some respect for Roxette .
... Room Service well i got my copy and some 100 or 200 chileans too... and i saw the video in local music channel ...

After reading your comments I think Anyone wasn’t a huge flop... I never knew it was airplayed in Latin America...
On the other hand, I thought RS was more succesful in SA... The only positive thing is MATAH being a hit in Brasil... But of course, there are other lands in Latin America and TCOTH or MATAH must’ve been succesful in some of them, mustn’t they...

Oh yes, I forgot to tell about “Breathe”. It was only played on Antena1, but well, that´s something!
The problem with EMI Br is that they seem to choose the singles to promote, when the subject it Roxette. Instead promoting “June afternoon” or “You don´t understand me”, they choose to promote “I don´t want to get hurt”, back in 1995.
In 1999, they totally ignored “Stars”. I think it was played only in Transamerica FM, or a few local radio stations.
And in 2001, they chose to promote only MATAH, and that´s all
(at least it was a huge promotion).
I´m sure if TCOTH was promoted here it would have been a hit. EMI Br seems to like only the ballads from Roxette...

Well in Argentina WICF got a huge airplay but I think one of the most successful singles from HAND was Anyone, later one Alguien got some attention (because of the success of BEE, people liked Marie’s spanish so much).

Here in Brazil the most successful singles from HAND were “Wish I could fly” and “Anyone”. Both charted on MTV´s Top 20 (WICF was #1) and played on the radios.
From Room Service, MATAH was the only single that EMI BR chose to promote, and it was a huge success. It actually was the last Roxette´s big hit here, bigger than WICF, I think.
“A thing about you” was played on a very few radios only and ON wasn´t played at all...
