"Like it like that" - stolen?

The first few chords of ’Like it like that’ are IMHO ’stolen’ from Austrian band STS. The song is called ’Großvater’. I was shocked listening to LILT the first time because i immediatly recognized ’Großvater’. Last weekend some friends listened to LILT and they also thought that ’Großvater’ would be the song what was coming up...
I have listened to it over and over again, and the intro is just exactly the same. I don’t know if just a stolen intro is enough to call it a plagiat but I hope there won’t be any problems to PG...
Maybe some of you know the song ’Großvater’ or just have the opportunity to listen to it... I’d be interested in your opinion.
Regards,
Mario

I don’t think it is stolen but the chords are pretty similar –which happens quite often ...
I already wrote a comment about it (29.04.06): http://www2.dailyroxette.com/article.php/2024
>>> I guess this song could be pretty successful IN AUSTRIA because it reminds me (and probably lots of other Austrians) a lot of a popular 80s melancholic dialect song by Austrian celebrated musicians called “STS” – http://flo.rootspace.net/STS-Grossvater.mp3

Oh, come on, please. If someone takes the same chords it´s not “stolen” at all!!! There are not many combinations for different chords...
It´s like when the author of a book says “this part of the book is stolen from my book because they use the same letters”....
I couldn´t here the sample of that song (didn´t work). But if it´s only the chords it´s definitely not stolen. Did you realize how many times songwriters use “A-G-D-A” or “A-D-E” or “A-C-D” or Am-G-F-G.... for example the first three chords of Joy Of A Toy “A-C-D” - if you play it in another rhythm you have “Smoke on the water”....

Exactly. and another reason, why the song is definitely not stolen is the demo version because it starts different.
And btw: Why should Per know (and like) that old, regional successful STS-song?

Just btw it’s called plagirism - when you take credit for someone else’s work... Stealing refers to TAKING someone else’s property! I don’t see any reason why Per would steal a record - he can 1.) get it for free from the record co 2.) afford to buy any records he desire!
(yeah-yeah i know i’m adding fuel to the fires of late)

@Galning - I did not want to blame PG for copying from STS. And I don’t really have an idea of how many musicians use the same chords, because I’m not a musician or composer, I just like listening to music and I have never listened to two diffenent songs from totally different bands (very likely PG has never heard of STS) that have such a similiar - if not equal - intro at all.
I like both songs very much, and found the equalty really noticeable... After reading that there have been some suits against SIMC and other songs from PG in the past, I just wanted to ask for other opinions... No blame at all!

@MarioK: I think you´re also from Germany, right? If you are from Germany you maybe know the band “Münchner Freiheit”. They have a song called “so lange man träume noch leben kann” or something like that. The melody AND chords are exactly the same like in a song from Marie called “Natt efter natt”. BUT: That´s not all: A friend of mine comes from (don´t know how to write it in english - it´s “Kroatien”). She showed my her favorite song of a band from her home-country and it has also exactly the same melody and chords like Natt efter natt and “So lange man träume noch......”.
So, this band (don´t know their name) and Marie and the “Münchner Freiheit” all doesn´t know from each other - how should they?
You see that sometimes these things happens. But if someone just “copy” the chords it´s not stolen at all. It´s like you use the same letters or words like another author uses in his book.... Just if someone copys a melody it´s very dangerous....
AND: I think 100%-sure that a shit-melody like in “Tobias Regner - I still burn” is in a million other songs. It´s so extreme primitiv that many others use it without knowing that there are other songs like that.....

@Galning: “Natt Efter Natt” is a cover of a well-known Cyndi Lauper song, “All Through The Night” - I’m sure the other songs you mention are covers of Cyndi’s song too!

I wouldn’t call it plagiarism at all.
PS: Though I’m fluent in German, I do not understand much. ;-)

@roxtexanet: Really?!?!! Didn´t know that! Well, maybe these others are also covers. When was the original of Cindy Lauper released? The German version of that song was released in the mid 80´s...

Mid ’80s... Same album as Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

haha Galning! poor u! all this time thinking these 2 bands and Marie came up with the same chords! :D sorry but it’s funny :P
Galning said on May 14, 2006 11:11:
Not with the same “chords”. Many songs have that. But the same melody...
BUT: I have noticed that the melody of that song of the german band “Münchner Freiheit” starts and ends totally different than Marie´s Natt efter Natt. Only in between is a similar part. So that german band didn´t cover the same song. Also I read about that they released an english version of it which have a different title than that song that Marie covered......
So, not all these three songs are covers of the same songs.... maybe from that third band....
