TBH,TPH Vs The Rox Box
tq83 said on May 8, 2006 03:42:
hey all,
Why do i get the feeling that TBH and TPH had more exclusive stuff than this rox box with supposed rare stuff is gonna have
for instance with TBH and TPH we had 4 new roxette songs, and 6 unreleased bonus songs, and 2 b-sides...
with the rox box we only get 1 new rox song.. and demos, b-sides we already have... do roxette really not have any unreleased stuff left? have we heard it all??
Yea i know we should be greatful we gettin this rox box but there has to be better stuff than what per has been sayin they are gonna put on it...
there has to be at least an album of unreleased songs that none of us have heard.... :(
what u all think??
Strest said on May 8, 2006 08:26:
ATM TBH and TPH (LTD editions) seems better than the Rox Box, but before we’ve got a complete track list it’s hard to decide...
Also this would be a great opportunity to re-release the Dance Passion EP (on CD).
Only one (edit: None) of those remixes has found its way to CD so those should be a welcome addition to my (commercial) CD collection.

We don’t know yet how many new songs will be recorded in the end, how good they’ll be, how many unheard rarities and live-songs we’ll get, if 1 or 2 singles will be released and how many b-sides they’ll contain... So what to compare? It’s too early!
RobS said on May 8, 2006 08:46:
Alot of people might not have got the EP versions, so for them this box would be great. (that is if they haven’t found the songs by other means...)
purplemedusa said on May 8, 2006 09:53:
Well if the majority of the fans aren’t excited about such an release WHAT’S the BLOODY point in re-releasing things again; the general public will be getting a compilation anyways...!!
sweetcheeks said on May 8, 2006 09:56:
Maybe there’s is a surprise instore for us......anything is possible
tq83 said on May 8, 2006 10:56:
well so far per has only mentioned 2 things i want, 1 new song, myth..
20 years and so far only 1 unreleased song has been mentioned been included in the box!!
Surely they can forget about including stuff like see me as its on the salvation single and TBH... who wants it again? i dont..
animalkingdom said on May 8, 2006 11:23:
I am partly happy about having Happy Together on there since I really love the song and it isn’t on any full-length album (I’ve only a discman, have to change CD’s so often...).
If there are nearly 60 songs, I am sure people are smiling in the end!
rosetti said on May 8, 2006 15:02:
@animalkingdom: yeah, I see what you mean, that’s my main objection to the EP... it’s always such a fuss changing CDs when you’re on a bus or train! LOL

I’m still surprised that this ’Rox Box’ is being limited to only 3 CDs. It just seems like there’s so much material out there that still will not be put on CD for the first time. I’m referring to the many remixes and rare versions that remain on out-of-print promos. 3 CDs is simply not enough space to include this material.
Having songs like See Me, Happy Together, The Weight Of The World makes sense - but they should be in addition to the other rare material that remains on vinyl and rare promo issues - not in place of. Hate ’em or love ’em, the U.S. mixes of tracks like “Joyride” and “Listen To Your Heart” should be included on this set. But considering the space available, I have a feeling that we won’t be seeing them here.
“the remixes (how about remastering old remixes like Chances Dancehall version? And the unreleased COY & WICF mixes etc.... hell an entire remix Cd would be REALLY SUPER!!)”
Exactly! Remember “I Was So Lucky (The Golden Blow)”? It was slated to be on the ’Real Sugar’ CD single. I would love to see it make the cut if it exists.
“Also this would be a great opportunity to re-release the Dance Passion EP (on CD).”
Exactly!
There’s so many options with this set, so it’s going to be interesting to see what gets cut.

I’ve got a feeling it’s just gonna be full of b-sides, demos, and album tracks. Plus a few hard to get songs. If it is, it’s surely going to be dissapointing :-(

“Only one of those remixes has found its way to CD”.
which one?
Roxette-atic said on May 8, 2006 19:37:
i would LOVE a live cd in this roxbox. I want to have COY, Stars and WICF live on my cd player!!!
Strest said on May 8, 2006 20:40:
thepophits: Actually none. I realised I got the two Frank Mono remixes of Neverending Love confused.
It’s the 7” version that’s on the POP remastered CD and not the 12” version.
Debora said on May 8, 2006 20:43:
I want to believe that they aren’t saying all the truth about this Rox Box. I think they are keeping some secrets about it. It’s Roxette’s 20th anniversary, it’s an important ocassion and they know that. I think there will be more than 2 new songs and more rarities than they are saying.
daniel_alv said on May 8, 2006 20:44:
If we get one gigantic radiohit I don’t care about how many new songs that are on the rox box...
EDIT: but ofcourse many new songs is a good bonus
tq83 said on May 8, 2006 21:25:
i really think this is how this release should of gone:
greatest hits (1 cd)
Rox box:
Demos 1cd
Unreleased songs and rare b-sides 1 cd
Remixes and alternate versions( but not radio edit crap) 1cd
DVD(live unreleased videos,mtv,interviews)
if the rox box is for fans why include the greatest hits with it seen as we have those songs already!!
Strest said on May 8, 2006 21:30:
“if the rox box is for fans why include the greatest hits with it seen as we have those songs already!!”
According to Per The Rox Box is an introduction to Roxette.

Personally, I’m only looking forward to the demo CD. The rest seems boring for fans, as it is just warming up what we already know and have in our collections. But still there’s room for improvement or a surprise for fans - hopefully!
RobS said on May 9, 2006 11:21:
Something like what tg83 wrote would’ve been better, and what i was sort of expecting. Still its a good 5 months away, things may change. It sounds like nothing is final yet anyways.
purplemedusa said on May 9, 2006 11:39:
I’m with Rob & tq83!!! I would however take the rare b-sides OUT of the Roxbox & put the alternative versions on that CD - if fans want them buy the bloody singles (unless you haven’t noticed that’s why we fans BUY THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE!)!! And then there’s an entire CD devoted to remixes!!!!! WOOHOOO!!!
chrisjankunas said on May 9, 2006 11:48:
I’m not really interested in remixes unless they are kinda subtle ones like modern rock version of It Will Take A Long Long Time. I wouldn’t really like a dancing djs style album tho - not really my thing. A demo cd and an unrealeased song cd would be great. I do get an ’extended greatest hits’ feel to this roxbox at the mo, but as people say, 5 months is a long time! Goodbye! But then, I also guess Per doesn’tr want to pill the beans on the ’new stuff’ so it could still be great. But did he say ’videos’ would be on the dvd in the recent interview :S
Claire said on May 9, 2006 12:28:
i would describe myself as one of the biggest roxette fans and i am totally indifferent to this rox box thing. excited at first til i read about it, its totally boring....
purplemedusa said on May 9, 2006 12:55:
“I wouldn’t really like a dancing djs style album tho “
I guess there’s many fans that would agree with you HOWEVER I’m almost certain that it’ll do better than a GH release ... there’s a growing interest in dancible Roxette tunes; we had examples of tracks doing incredably well in the charts the last year (DHT & Dancing DJ’s for example) plus Roxette had a couple of memorable remixes (ie Chances Dancehall version) in the past that can be used for such an compilation, plus we know there’s a few unreleased ones laying around (ie COY & WICF) gathering dust... with a little bit of funding, the record company can commision a couple of DJ’s to add some phunk to Roxette’s biggest hits... and there you have a awesome remix CD! Wouldn’t a vinyl edition be cool too?
Claire said on May 9, 2006 13:55:
im enjoying the whole dancing djs thing but dont want a cd of that in the ’ultimate’ rox box if u know what i mean. i see that as something completley different.
purplemedusa said on May 9, 2006 14:10:
Well it’s hardly an “ultimate” boxset or is it? Yeah think such a release of remixes would actually do better as a release on it’s own...!
ally77 said on May 9, 2006 17:37:
After being a fan for the past 15 years I am a little peeved at this release as I felt something a little bit more special would have been better - I do feel it’s just a money making thing right now to earn EMI more pennies....
However no doubt I’ll stay buy it the days its released!
tavo said on May 9, 2006 19:21:
i still think per is hiding some info from us. i think there´s going to be many surprises in this box. god, i wake up every day hoping it´s october, and i have the box at home...
RobS said on May 10, 2006 12:26:
Just wondering, would people rather a RoxBox similar to Marie’s boxset with remastered discs with some bonus tracks etc???
purplemedusa said on May 10, 2006 12:55:
Robs... I really wouldn’t mind! But at the moment I’m hungry for some less obvious stuff... a treasure box... the remastered box can come a little later!!
purplemedusa said on May 10, 2006 13:12:
Paul, there’s no doubt in my mind that you speak for ALL of us!!
pwbbounce (moderator) said on May 10, 2006 13:14:
yeah, it was a little bit of sarcasm :-)
Edit: typo
tavo said on May 10, 2006 14:53:
i also want something new. at least one song. and according to per, at least one song will be recorded, plus “myth”, that makes two! great!
just kidding, i´d love to have a new rox album at home. even if it sounded like room service, but something... at least the sleeve...
roxtexanet said on May 10, 2006 22:51:
I’m positive - positive! - that one of the three discs will be the same GH that everyone else can buy on its own... that would be good, because at least then buying the RoxBox would give us collectors the new GH and whatever new tracks it contains without needing to buy both the box set and the new GH. So, it’s kind of like buying a deluxe version of the new hits set with a bunch of bonus stuff rather than a box set proper.
I also think this kind of a release is really just to mark the 20th anniversary... when Roxette are really and truly finished, that’s when we’ll get the usual kind of box set (all of the albums repackaged with bonus tracks, etc.) that Per, Marie, and GT have already put out there. Just thinking aloud, I don’t actually know a damned thing of course!!
Grasi said on May 10, 2006 23:21:
I´m afraid we´ll have all songs from Ballad Hits/Pop Hits EPs included on this “Rarities” CD from the Roxbox
Plus the other regular b-sides... and “Myth”... nothing else.
tq83 said on May 11, 2006 05:30:
i agree thats why i said TBH,TPH vs rox box.. because i had the feelin they would be better than the rox box.. they had more exclusive stuff ;)
coyboyusa said on May 12, 2006 20:29:
its gonna be pointless if the 2 o them wont perform tour or promote it u know
HBrox said on May 12, 2006 22:44:
We need to be objetive about this: if they don’t include more rare stuff on the rox-box (like new demos, unrealeased songs, all that kind of “new stuff”) is simple because THESE THINGS DON’T EXIST. It seems that they have finished thier collection of unrealeased songs with TBH & TPH EP’s... there is nothing more left. Only the same old demos sung by per... as usual. Songs that you can find elsewhere.. on the web, on the booklets...
Do you really think that they would include “SATG” on HAND if they’ve composed other songs?? NO! This kind of songs are crap and still they are included on the album.. why?? Because there is nothing else to include!
Fans don’t need “an introduction to roxette”... we already know them! we need this kind of rare stuff if we can’t get a full new album. People who doesn’t know roxette, and are interested to, will buy the GT album not the Rox-Box. . would anybody buy the demos of a singer that you just discovered?? NO! you will get the regular GT albums!!!
An EP with the new songs and a songs like myth would be enough for us... for a cost of 20 euros. Not the 50 euros we will spend on the rox-box with songs that we already bought in the past....
Wicf said on May 13, 2006 16:20:
I think THESE SONGS DO EXIST, but for some reason, Per and Marie don’t want to release them... I thought there were 40 songs recorded for HAND, weren’t there? So that means that there must be some songs we haven’t heard yet...
chrisjankunas said on May 13, 2006 17:02:
I don’t think Staring At The Groud is crap at all so :D Very good melody and not techno like the rest of HAND.
tq83 said on May 14, 2006 04:41:
oh please im sure there is at least an albums worth of stuff unreleased from the 20 years of roxette has existed!
imazombieinthem... said on May 14, 2006 07:27:
The Rox Box will end up being good, not disapointing. I have a feeling :P
Per has mentioned lately he has been holding back the unreleased Roxette tunes for his Bad Hair Day project because of Rox’s 20th. We will get more than Myth. The best of the demos/alt takes will be chosen, and I bet that there will be a Bad Hair Day thing for Roxette too for alot of songs that werent too good for the Rox Box.
Tevensso has been currently sorting through them with his mate Per, choosing what should be on there :P Like the reggae version of Never Is A Long Time :D

One thing I don’t get is:
They don’t want to release the Live footage they have recorded over the years on dvd cause the say it is not on DVD qualtity, but why do they want to release demos on CD that is not CD Quality?
and now they want to try to get the unplugged, I thought that Live in south africa was a much better setlist and would be much better than a boring unplugged session!
purplemedusa said on May 8, 2006 05:36:
Funny that crossed my mind when i read the interview on the front page - I was hoping for a ’treasure box’ concept seeing that there’s ALREADY a GH planned for the celabrations! I believe that things aren’t carved into stone but REALLY EMI can actually pull the finger out and put something TRULY special out!!
Yeah bring on the demo’s, the remixes (how about remastering old remixes like Chances Dancehall version? And the unreleased COY & WICF mixes etc.... hell an entire remix Cd would be REALLY SUPER!!) odd & interesting live performances and other tracks that’s been gathring dust... oh an how about a scrap-book type of DVd featuring weird & wonderful clips of Roxette behind the scenes... ones imagination can go WILD with such a release - just hope that this doesn’t get hijacked by EMI’s lust for compilations... !!!
Come on - anyone with a fiver (UK pounds that is) in the pocket can go to ebay & buy a Roxette compilation... I would like to challenge Per (and the rest of the Rox camp) to actually make this an EXCITING release CRAMMED with goodies that’s otherwise impossible to find!!
BTW i’m STILL crossing my fingers for a remixed collection (a seperate release maybe??)... something that’ll be pure silly fun to listen too but a HEALTHY change from all the GH compilations!! Roxette has done some really cool remixes and I’m sure there’s some more laying around in the faults - - maybe have a mix of old retro remixes ( ofcourse remastered and with a fresh sounds) & newer & unheard mixes. Something like this can’t be hard to market!!! BTW don’t forget about the Dancing DJ’s mixes - hey why doesn’t Roxette commision some DJ’s to take on such a project???
