Nelly furtado - new 'loose' ! ! !
rox-kuryliw said on May 6, 2006 11:05:
Saw her new vid for the song single ’maneater’ on tv yesterday , Love the song and the vid so much. Different from her other stuff. id say her sound was more US produced and less european directed if that makes sence. But still good song writing there :-) , the faults i could see is that she has got on that sex sells style and lets talk about sex ect ect . i guess thats why her album is called ’loose’ lol, i guess people will do anything to sell an album and i know her last album didnt do well in US so i guess she needs a hit. with i dont like that side of things. :-(
ps if think the US and europe have different lead single releases if anyone knows anymore let mw know ta.
rox-kuryliw said on May 7, 2006 20:34:
yep and is going all out to get that hit, although i loved he last album and it did really well in eu.
TinyBubbles said on May 9, 2006 20:28:
Lol i love Nelly. Hope she doesn’t turn into a Britney or so :P
Cant wait to hear the new stuff.
roxtexanet said on May 9, 2006 21:32:
Of course she still has a record contract! In Canada at least, “Powerless” and “Try” were massive hits and the album sold very well. I think the last record did well in Europe, too. Looking forward to hearing the new stuff.

I like the new song, but I prefer Try. I think that song is amazing!
She looks very different now though
TinyBubbles said on June 2, 2006 21:23:
“maneater” has really grown on me. I guess i am a fan *sigh*
animalkingdom said on June 2, 2006 21:25:
Maneater was complete junk till today when I happened not to change the channel before the refrain. Good god those verses are annoying but the chorus... :)
roxtexanet said on June 3, 2006 14:40:
@coyboy: I agree completely. She used to be a singer-songwriter (the four singles from her debut album were written by herself with no cowriters), and I think she contributed a really unique style to pop music. Then she got eleven producers and turned into Jennifer Lopez. How hard is it to strip your clothes off and duet with Timbaland? I guess she wants to be really, really, really rich. Really disappointing. I don’t have a problem with trying new styles or expanding one’s breadth but this just feels like easy money to me.
TinyBubbles said on June 4, 2006 15:27:
I dont think its THAT bad :P I mean her image revamp or so..
Then again i’ve only seen/heard “maneater” Maybe i’ll change my mind when i hear/see the rest of the album.
Still thinks she is cool and very unique..
roxtexanet said on June 4, 2006 17:32:
@Tiny: I think that’s the thing that most annoys me... she IS unique, and she has real talent - demonstrated talent! I can see why Jennifer Lopez has to resort to having ten thousand collaborators and doing generic, bland R&B, but I thought Nelly Furtado was doing something different and now she’s like every other pretty girl who wants a music career. Oh well, maybe I’d do the same in her shoes...
TinyBubbles said on June 4, 2006 18:29:
No i totally get what you are saying and yes it annoys me aswell. But i still like her nevertheless :D
Secretkeeper81 said on June 4, 2006 22:22:
Her first album was really good, but I didn’t like her following stuff that much, and now she seems to have turned her sound into some kind of rap? Not really my kind of stuff.
rox-kuryliw said on June 11, 2006 22:12:
She has just scored her first UK num1 with the infectioud Maneater single, catchier than an office cold lol.
Invisible_man said on June 12, 2006 16:38:
Her new song is junky, r&b style. I never really liked her before either... and that song of hers “bird” or whatever was way overplayed on radio too. That’s my two cents
eBay said on June 20, 2006 10:38:
Maneater is still at Number 1 in the UK (2nd week at top spot) and her album just entered the top 5. Promicious, her lead single for the US is currently number 2.
So has anyone listened to her new album yet? I bought it at day of its EU release and have not stopped listening to it since.. the lead singles are not even the best songs of the album..
Nelly is going to be one of the most talked about females celebs this year and prob going to have the best selling album this year.
rox-kuryliw said on June 20, 2006 15:54:
so is it worth listerning to then ? i have all her other albums which i adore, im just not sure if i will like loose even though i like maneater.
rox-kuryliw said on June 25, 2006 21:32:
wow 4 weeks num one, cool, i may go out and get album this week, risk it for a biscuit , i normally wait to see what the second single is like.
rox-kuryliw said on June 26, 2006 14:07:
ow ek the album that bad , i was gonna buy it cos i love maneater aswell ! is teh album like her first 2 albums as i like them .
ncurran said on June 26, 2006 14:45:
Its very ’american’ sounding....thats about all i can say. Its just not my kind of music, but you might like it.
kachina008 said on June 26, 2006 15:07:
I read somewhere that she’s gotten a bit “looser” with her sound because of her two year old kid who is pretty boucing off the walls. I like the new album. It’s fun and very therapeutic to my black cloud at the moment.
rox-kuryliw said on June 26, 2006 18:54:
well all i can think of when someone says american sounding is, RnB with rap which i HATE.
ncurran said on June 27, 2006 09:01:
I’m actually giving the album a second chance after hearing another song again that i actually quite liked. It was still in my recycle bin on the computer so i was able to rescue it. There are already 3 of the songs that I have deleted again because i couldnt bear to listen to them, but there are some OK songs. Some are just pop with an american flavour, and those i can handle...cannot stand the blatant rap/hip hop ones though.
Invisible_man said on June 27, 2006 10:29:
She performed on Saturday Night Live last week. She sucked. At first I thought it was a joke or some sort of SNL parody, but than I realized that sadly it was an actual song (maneater or something). It sucked!
It wasn’t even good melodic R&B of the likes of Toni Braxton or TLC, but just junk.
She might be Canadian, but she sounds like 99% of other US ghetto junk. I am sure she will sell millions though, considering how ignorant Top-100 music listeners eat up crap like that.
rox-kuryliw said on June 27, 2006 13:00:
arr your from america , i would class maneater as pop with a very catchy chorus , which europe loves.
ncurran said on June 27, 2006 13:39:
and there are a couple of good pop tunes on the album, but a lot of it is bland r&b hip hop rubbish aswell.
eBay said on June 28, 2006 07:04:
Well for anyone who wants to know what the second single will be like, which so happened to be the lead single in the US, check out Nelly’s website. .com not co.uk and you can listen to the whole song there. It is very different to Maneater but ROCKS!
rox-kuryliw said on June 28, 2006 10:22:
im not over keen to be honest on it , its that one feat timberland , how do u know thats the next single for UK ?
TinyBubbles said on June 28, 2006 11:28:
Wow who thought Nelly could cause such a debate :O
I still havn’t heard the rest of the album. I dooo like maneater tho. I GOTTA go buy it already damnit. Or atleats listen to it :p
coyboyusa said on June 28, 2006 21:24:
she was on good mornign america’s summer concert series she seems to have totally lost whatever ability she had to sing, it was horrid, thats what she gets for selling out....her album is gonna pull a madonna and vanish off the charts after 1 big single and I say THANK GOD
coyboyusa said on June 28, 2006 21:27:
and stop lumping rap as american music it isn’t its music made by nuckle draggers....americans don’t generally liek that crap
ncurran said on June 28, 2006 22:00:
Well rap is american music isnt it? I’m well aware that you have other genres aswell but that seems to be one of the most successful ones over there.
rox-kuryliw said on June 28, 2006 22:39:
yes rap came from america ! and its the biggest export of rap and the main chart is full of the stuff ! arrrr, i may be wrong thats mu perception of it ! i know they are other types aswell i am aware.
its like dance it very popular here but we also have heavy metal music lol.
joyrider said on June 29, 2006 21:19:
I am totally addicted to MANEATER at the moment ... but I don’t like the other songs on the new album.
Would be interesting if a catchy chorus like the one from Maneater could push Roxette back to number one too... I love those deep aaaaaaaaaaaaa(awesome) “acapella-hook-lines in the back” and the drums ...
eBay said on July 3, 2006 08:34:
So now she is number one on the US single charts and the album charts.. if she is going to continue like this, my predictions made a few weeks ago might become reality and she will be the biggest selling artist this year.
Am I the only one that loves her album??
Does anyone know the song “Say it right” or “Flames to dust”? What do you think of it?
kachina008 said on July 10, 2006 17:48:
one of the songs on the album “in god’s hands” could have been written by Per and sung by Marie!
coyboyusa said on May 7, 2006 20:32:
lol she still has a record contract?
