From Enid Blyton to J.K Rowling

I bet all of you know about J.K Rowling, but how about Enid Blyton? I remember when I was little I like to read her books alot. I think I had almost all the Famous Five’s stories, also I red The Secret Seven, The Naughtiest Girl in School, Malory Towers, Saint Claire, Noddy etc.. I think I grow up with all those book, and of course this last few years I’ve been J.K Rowling fans, and I realized that both Enid Blyton and JK Rowling were from England. I wonder, especially to UK Fans, if you like Enid Blyton’s work too?

OMG!!! I totally remember Malory Towers and the Naughtiest Girl with Elizabeth lol - I absolutely loved those books. There was also one I used to love - something about a magical wishing chair or something!! Gosh I hadn’t thought about them in ages - I would read them again now if I had my hands on them

I wish that too... I used to have all the series of Malory Towers and all those Famous Five book, but when I grew up, I didn’t really care about them, and people just borrowed those and never return... And now I just couldn’t find those series in the store anymore :P

When I was younger I used to “eat” Enid’s books! Specially in summer, my mum had to buy me 1-2 books per week ;D

I have all the 5 and the 7’s, they were great. My fave was Jo :D

Funny, the other day I thought of these books and I told myself that next time I go to Spain, I have to take a couple of these books with me and read them again, and see what I think of them now :P (and if I remember who the bad guy is hehe)

i havent even read one harry potter, read about 4 chapters and couldnt stick it. dont think i could read an enid blyton today either but as a kid i loved em. my gran had a large collection of famous five books that i think had been my dads.

i loved loved loved Mr Pinkwhistle which i think was Enid Blyton has anyone else heard of this book?

Was Mr Galliano’s Circus written by Enid Blyton?? I loved that too!!!

i started reading The Famous Five books when i was 10 in 1994 and i will still be found to pick up the odd one or two even now.all 21 were great.i did read alot of her other books like The Adventurous Four,Mr Twiddle,Mr Meddle and The Faraway Tree and Wishing Chair Books. When I was 16 I started reading Harry Potter i actually read my first Harry Potter with Dont Bore Us Get To The Chorus in the background on the day i bought it and that was my first Roxette album.so i got into both Roxette and Harry Potter on the same day.A good first i think.
and claire i used to have a series of books like me mr meddle and that one u mentioned was listed on the back.

cool. it was a huge book as i remember with loads of different stories in it. i was gutted a year or so back when my mam and dad had a loft clear out and chucked it. it was in a state like.

did it have anything to do with a circus at all?

Loved Enid Blyton’s books, absolutely ADORED them. also love J. K. Rowling....guess I have a thing for British authors :D

Enid´s books are written by heart Rowling is nothing but a smart business woman.

Oh yes, Enid Blyton rings a bell here! Nice books
:-D She’s a well-known writer here in Switzerland too - quite classic

I also tried with HP but I didn’t like it. Fine for a couple of hours entertainment by the TV but nothing else..

I also like Tolkien and many other British authors, I think JKR is just a cheap copy and summary of all those good authors ;-)

I just woke up and surprise to see so many people replied to this topic :)

One of the Enid Blyton’s that I like called St Claire and my fav character was the girl from France called Claudine.

I am wondering why I couldn’t find any of her books here in US, many people that I know didn’t even know who is she.

After Enid Blyton, I thought I will never find other author that I like, but thank god that JK Rowling came along, and again she’s from british...

I think JK Rowling is smart and a great author too, she’s different with Enid Blyton in some way cuz she has her own style too.
