Roxette in German newspaper

Hi roxers;
on today news in Aachen “Aachener Nachrichten” was a report. Meanwhile Gessle was in Cologne they asked him about Marie and the future with roxette.
As we all already knew there won’t be a new album but the Best of CD with two new songs. But Per says in this interview that the future of Roxette is very uncertain as Marie’s hearing and eyesight have been damaged partially by the tumor as well.
Per literal: Marie could stop taking here medicine some time ago, but the illness has changed her. She lost parts of her hearing and eyesight, which make the future of Roxette as a band, who tours and records songs, rather improbable.
At the end Per says he is proud of Roxette and he knows, that another Best of album is not really originell, but Marie’s state of health does not allow a complete new album.
These were his words. I think these were news, we don’t know yet really.
Even if this means the end of Roxette maybe, we just love them and look forward for the two new songs and what the future brings.

but she has ’apparently’ just recorded a new album in swedish, she did do the Change...she has said in previous interviews that she loves to get back into the studio..I’m confused now. :o~

It’s strange since no one ever talked about such issues concerning Marie besides the brain tumor.
Also, it’s rather strange that Per would tell a german newspaper about this. As i see it, Marie should be the one to say that to swedish news agency, and not Per tell a german newspaper.
Futhermore, it doesn’t add up with all the hype transmited in other various news stories we read, concerning how excited Marie is about going back to Roxette and stuff.
Would be nice to have a credible source to confirm such piece of news on that german paper.

Otherwise, Per´s attitude was really rude.
If Marie herself didn´t say about it before it was because she didn´t want/ it wasn´t the right time
Anyway, if she can atill write songs, sing live and record solo albums, why Roxette couldn´t go on? (of course not like before).

I think the problem is that if Roxette published a complete new album, they need to go on promotion tour and probable Marie is not able to do that. Per can not promote a Roxette album alone as he did with Pop Hits or Ballad Hits. She can publish a new solo album in Sweden as every one knows her and she can give some interviews, but not for the rest of Europe. Even if it’s very sad, but for example here on Germany the most people (excepted the “hard ones like us” or some older people) don’t know Roxette anymore and it will be a fight to get back again. Maybe she is not ready for this fight.

I think a few people really do fail to grasp that for Marie there is a lot more involved in doing something with Roxette than doing something solo!

I totally agree with ally77. I also think that some people here really need to grasp that brain cancer is one of the most serious illnesses that exist. Back in the 70s and 80s it was virtually impossible to survive a brain tumor. It therefore really pisses me off (sorry for that) that some people here selfishly seem to complain about Marie’s behaviour saying they deserve another Roxette recording. (’She has recorded ’The Change’, she has done gigs, so why on earth doen’t she want to record another Roxette album’ –> such statements really get to me!)
As for the Aachener Nachrichten: That’s a German regional newspaper. You cannot compare his sort of newspaper with the Expressen. German regional newspapers are basically very reliable sources. They don’t really tend to spread mere gossip.

If this were to be true this would definitaley explain why Per or management have never made any certain statement in regards to Roxette’s future or the plans for a full new album etc.

Kathrin, regional newspapers don’t just make up stories. The way they work is very different from tabloids. Besides, the Aachener Nachrichten e.g. hardly has any reasons to invent stories on Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson.

A few days ago I was reading an online journal from a guy with a brain tumour. He also lost parts of his vision, because that part of his brain had been destroyed by the tumour and the operations. So in one way this news about Marie was shocking to me, but then again it’s not. I don’t know if it’s 100% confirmed but it would make sense. Per has said stuff before, he told some fans once that Marie had problems walking and balancing. I think it’s hard for poor Per who knows everything and is constantly asked, but he’s not really allowed to tell. Perhaps stuff slips out now and then.
I also really agree with Burke, how dare people demand a Roxette album from her or complain about her cover album. She’s been ill and seems to be permanently damaged by it (don’t forget she lost the ability to read and count also) and she does what she feels these days. She felt like a cover album this time, and good for her. Marie wasn’t put on this earth to only give us what we want.
