What is THIS?? [eBay fake promo CD]
chrisjankunas said on March 23, 2006 08:03:
A Thing About You Promo Single with a different heart picture. Is it real, not that the seller accepts any form of payment anyway? And expensive!

Mmm... I’ve never seen this and I’m certain if there ARE 500 copies of this item I would have seen it before! BTW why would there b a video on a promo CD - that seems a little daft if you ask me!!

Low positive rate and HIDDEN comments?? Stay away!
Not to mention the record even...

OMG, £59!!! At least it seems no one is stupid enough to fall for this. And still keeping everything secret...
grisu said on March 30, 2006 12:39:
This guy also sells cds from artists like Madonna or The Prodigy. They´re all “very rare promo cds”.
Sad that it seems to work out for him.
Sparvogamarie said on March 31, 2006 04:38:
It just goes to show how easy it is to make fake stuff and sell it. Only die hard fans know that it’s not a real promo so innocent fans bid on it. This guy is such a fraud, he’s kept the bidder’s ID secret so that no one can message and warn the bidder (I once bid on an item and someone wrote to warn me that it was a sham)
I think a few of us should inform Ebay about this so they will pay more attention. Some poor sucker is going to lose a lot of money for a fake.
Lars-Erik_Olson (moderator) said on March 31, 2006 15:37:
And eBay does NOT make it easy to report such fraud. Not easy AT ALL.
per_mson said on March 31, 2006 16:21:
Reported him as well!
And I agree with Lars-Erik, Ebay is really crap when it comes to reporting this kind of frauds!
Sparvogamarie said on April 1, 2006 07:01:
I reported him too, so hopefully EBay will take notice.
ThePopHits: was that a joke or a serious question? Gabriel is Per’s son, if you really didn’t know.
tevensso (moderator) said on April 1, 2006 12:18:
Uh, search the safe harbor for reporting “Listing Violations > Fraudulent listings (illegal seller demands, item not received, etc.) > You suspect that a listing is fraudulent (you didn’t bid)”... NOT easy to find.
grisu said on April 1, 2006 15:20:
Thank you Thomas for telling us the procedure of reporting. It´s really not easy to find. I have just reported the seller, too. Perhaps mass will do it. But I´m afraid that ebay earns too much money with sellers like him, so they won´t close his offers.

They haven’t taken it down, I just checked and the auction has 43 minutes left. Why the hell is it possible to block the bidder’s name so we can’t message him and tell him to retract his bid? I once bid on a portable DVD, and I got a message from someone that the seller was a fraud. It was too late to retract my bid but I wrote Ebay and reported the message. After the auction ended, Ebay wrote me to say they canceled the auction because they investigated (it turned out someone had hacked a genuine user’s account so it looked like they had a high feedback rating). But this is a different situation, they have to investigate whether the item is genuine or not. I hope they do something.

Thats right, how do ebay know these are fakes? Most collectable items have fakes floating around. Imagine the amount of items on ebay being reported as fakes every day.
RobS said on April 2, 2006 06:20:
Has anyone tried contacting the seller? I’d be quite interested to hear what he might say about this “ultra rare promo”.
per_mson said on April 2, 2006 09:35:
I tried and the only thing you get back from him is:
AUTOMATIC REPLY !!
YOUR EMAIL WAS DELETED WITHOUT READ.
I did of course tell him that it is a fake.. ;-)
So he is clearly a thief!
purplemedusa said on April 2, 2006 10:00:
Per... i did the same & got a email asking if I want to buy it for cheap... like not in this universe!! Pfff
Sparvogamarie said on April 3, 2006 04:13:
OMG Purple you should report him for that, it’s ultra against rules to offer to sell outside of Ebay. Did you keep the email?

Looks like it was designed using Paint! (the very basic tool included in Windows). By the way, I got better results using Paint...
