I’m starting out a new business with my brother and some friends. It’s a media company, so to speak, also very small since we don’t have much money.
We will hopefully launch the website and constitute the society in around a month.

thanks for sharing your stories :)
lately, I have been thinking about selling stuff on ebay. me and my fiancee have been thinking about the idea for so long. and coinsidence thing happen, few days ago I watch things about that on television and I already have some ideas. I know I won’t make MUCH money at least at first, but I have to be pattient, right? also, if I really did that, it will be my first business ever. it’s kinda hard, because I KNOW nothing about business. My background is journalist, but when I move to USA I know I can’t work in the same field as I did before, because as you can see I don’t really speak (and write) a good english, at least in the level where a journalist should have. So, I am ready to change carrier now. wish me luck and I’ll wish you luck too :)
any more stories?

I’m starting my own business too. I don’t have a lot of money so I’m getting a loan for it. For this reason I’m going thru many different options to try to find something that could work. I don’t know anything about business too but I have dedicated a lot of time to it and spoke to many people. Compared to 6 months ago I can say that I know a lot regarding renting a place, set-up everything you need in a shop from doors to lights to tills etc.... What you should look at when opening a shop is
- exclusive —– are the products that I’m selling available somewhere else in my area? Will I be able to obtain an exclusive item to attract customers? - is it something people buy? (go to some other city and talk with shop assistants, you’ll find nice people and nasty people but you’ll get to know something!). Also take a look for yourself. Go in a shopping centre and see which shop is full and which is empty! Consider starting with a franchisor if you’ve no experience. write down a business plan of all the costs you’re going to face and make sure you have enough money to pay your debts for the first year (don’t count too much on your first years’ income as you’ll have to be patience)....
I’m no expert but this is what I’m doing at the moment. Last thing, try to see if you can obtain money from either -> regional funds, national funds and EU funds (if applicable). Most of the money you get you can give back at a lower interest rate or sometimes you only have to give back 3/4 or so on.... whatever you do talk with a professional accountant (better if a friend!).
Also check out if you need to register your activity at the council or if you need a specialization (ie. if you sell food you will probably have to study how to keep it etc etc...).
Don’t be scared it’s not easy but you can do it!!!!
Good luck!

thanks TB :) well, I guess sometimes people need to take risk on their lives :)
@ roxlad :
I hope you’ll be succeed in what you do and thanks for your tips.
I’m still dunno what I will do, although I already have some options but still figure out which one the best and of course that doesn’t take too much money.
right now, I won’t dream about BIG profit, the most important thing for me now is to learn how to do that and I’m willing to take a risk. But it won’t be too bad if it’s fail because I start with less money. If that succed, then I will think about the loan too.
All I have to do now is keep opening my eyes and learn every opportunities. Right now, I am only do researching from home with internet, but soon maybe I will start do outdoor research.

I would like to set a shop, clothes for babies and that kind of stuff but I haven’t got the money yet.

@ Xarr : I have been thinking bout learning more bout photography and maybe oneday doing business that has got to do with this...
@ Debora : Opening store will be fun too, but just like you I don’t really have enough money to start that.
I know how to design clothes (I am not THAT good, I still have to practize more). Lately I have been thinking on to make clothes that I design and maybe oneday I could sell that. But I only know how to design, I don’t know how to make that. So, I am still investigating to find people to make that, hopefully for cheap.

I’m a psychologist, and I have my own, small clinic since May 2005. It´s very hard here in Mexico, because most of the people still believe that if you go to psychotherapy is because you’re crazy. Nevertheless, I’m doing fine now. I’ve learnt to be patient, which has helped me a lot.
