Drink Driving
pwbbounce said on August 21, 2005 07:23:
Why do people still drink and drive??
One very kindly wrote off my car last night. He was 3 times over the legal limit.
I’ve got loads of bruises, and I’m finding it hard to use my left arm. Mum (the passenger) went to A&E because some glass went in her eye.
Don’t really want to be a work today, but there was no one else who could be in charge. Oh well
ncurran said on August 21, 2005 08:07:
*big hug for Paul*
I’m really sorry to hear about that. I hope you and your mum feel ok.
Drunk drivers are idiots. In my view the penalties should be stiffer.

hope u ok buddy????? really sorry 4 u and your mum:-))) If u not well tho, you are at risk so u shouldn’t be working!
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 21, 2005 08:29:
Thanks guys!!
Was checked over at A&E last night, and they said it was only bruising. If my left arm doesn’t stop shaking though I think I’m gonna go back. It only shakes when I’m doing something (like writing this!!), thinking it’s a trapped nerve or something.
The other bloke is looking at 3 years off the road and about a £400 fine and he’s due in court on Monday.

Shit Paul! *huggles to you!* Hope that your mom will be fine to... is this asrehole in custody?
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 21, 2005 08:49:
Yes he is, was arrested there on the spot. He starting getting shitty when he found out. He was shouting at the police to make sure that they gave me a breath test too (my reading was 000 by the way), and that is was my fault that he hit me. The police said to me the it was clearly his fault because of 20 feet skid marks left, and that I have nothing to worry about

Pw: You might need to have your wing in a sling for a little while. After the accident I had that involved my left shoulder (tubing accident - kinda like skiing in an inner tube), I couldn’t maintain control of my arm for a while either. It may or may not be a pinched nerve... it may be that the impact of the foreign object (part of your car) has “scrambled” the nerves for a bit and they’re “in shock”.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 21, 2005 20:35:
Thanks LS. It stopped hurting and shaking this afternoon, but it’s started again now. I tihnk a visit to the doctor tomorrow may be in order!
LittleSpooky said on August 21, 2005 20:59:
See what yer doc says.
If there’s not much he can do, ask for a sling or go to the nearest drug store (do you still call them Apothocaries over there?) and pick one up. When your nerves are in shock like that, the muscles can’t do the most basic function like bend and straighten without either spazzing out (which is what that sounds like) or you have to think about it. A day or so in the sling, will put the muscles “at rest” and let the nerves sort themselves out and return to “normal”.
The human body is great that way.
And how’s your mom feelin?
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 21, 2005 21:02:
They’re called pharmacies over here. Only heard apothocary in Friends!! lol
Mum is okay, blurred vision in her left eye still which is rubbish.
Def gonna be going to doctor tomorrow. it’s hard typing this.
Thanx for the advice LS!
LittleSpooky said on August 21, 2005 22:18:
Welcome (I’d heard apothocary else where... I didn’t have much use for Friends).
Her vision’s gonna be blurry for a bit in that one eye.
Hope you both feel better soon.

I’ve been upset by reading this :(. Driving drunk is one of the most stupid things. There will always be such an idiot people.
Paul, hope you and your mum are going to be alright very soon :)
coyboyusa said on August 22, 2005 22:00:
simple...population control it weeds out alot fo the ignorant youung peole )
LittleSpooky said on August 22, 2005 23:52:
Coyboy: That is the DUMBEST thing you have said to date!
How about all of the innocent people that are killed by drunk drivers???
Most DUI sentences aren’t very stiff. There was a man in Utah who had 10 DUI / DWI convictions before he lost control of his car and killed 3 pre-teens / teens walking home one evening after a party or something.

@coy - the drunk driver wasn’t young. I would say around 40-ish. I agree that its very stupid and ignorant to drink and drive (obviously I would now!), but I’m not sure I agree with the comment about population control. Seems about harsh
kachina008 said on August 23, 2005 08:53:
talking about population control as a gay person? hmmmm :P
realsuga said on August 23, 2005 08:57:
That picture that Littlespooky posted is just devastating! It makes u realise the impact of DUI! I agree that DUI should be hmore harsh in terms of sentence but that also the offender goes onto an awareness/rehab program. gives u plenty to think about

Hope you are feeling a bit better today.
I was involved in an rta with an uninsured drunk driver who was lucky not to be sent to prison but got a 3 year ban. Yet just a few months later i saw this same ’man’ behind the wheel of a car. People like these dont care who they hurt as long as they get home, so just by banning and fineing them is no deterant. Lock them up till they rot in hell.

I received that picture as part of an email. I believe at the bottom it says learn more at

Small world?
A friend of mine sent me the e-mail because he’s a very PSA type of guy (PSA = Public Service Announcement, in case someone didn’t know).
ally77 said on August 25, 2005 06:56:
It’s a cruel story, but I think she is doing so good to make it known what can happen!
Sparvogamarie said on August 25, 2005 07:26:
Yeah she was even on Oprah and she was also on the Australian 60 Minutes. She is such a bright and positive person, and really funny despite what happened to her! She’s my hero. I don’t think I’d be as brave as her!
coyboyusa said on August 25, 2005 12:46:
its a vice that leads to death of peple it happens, drunk driving used to be a HELL of alot worse 30 years ago. And yes it is population control as is cancer and aids and every other unfortunate thing out there....and yes being gay is also a form of population control iam quite proud to particpate in, humanity ids very disappointing and i don’t dare subject a child to the ignorance , prejudice and intolerance

Simple Plan - “Untitled (How could this happen to me)”
Very good message!! Watch the video here http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2671724?htv=12
“Simple Plan: Untitled (2005) ’How could this happen to me?’ you wonder. By simply being the lottery loser in the drunk driver sweepstakes. MADD praised this plaintive video with a PSA heart and we have to jump on board that bandwagon. Emotionally gripping, visually arresting...and it rocks! (3 min 39 sec)”
coyboyusa said on August 26, 2005 01:28:
thats a great video even though they dont weant it to be used as a psa, and pierre is so damn cute lol god bless canada :)
Sparvogamarie said on August 26, 2005 11:21:
Oh I’ve heard that song on the radio, it’s great. It’s funny, when I heard the words I always thought of Jacqui and how that song would fit her very well, and it really is about drunk driving! I didn’t know that before! I should tell her about this song, she can probably identify with it.

Just thought I’d let everyone know the outcome. He received a £600 fine and a 3 year ban. So that’s cool!!!! I’m doing fine now, and Mum goes back to work on Monday. Thanks for everyone’s concern!
LittleSpooky said on August 26, 2005 22:23:
Glad to know you’re okay there chief. Your arm still givin fits? And what did the doctor say?
Yes... you can tell me to bugger off ;o)
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 27, 2005 03:06:
Actually didn’t end up going to the doctor. My Arm fixed itself! I’m fine now, just apart from some brusing left on my shoulder.

I swear by this stuff

Tigerbalm ROX! It’s the trippiest thing for a massage! LOL!
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 27, 2005 08:39:
Yes, I have seen this stuff before. I had heard that it’s very good. They don’t stock it in Guernsey though, so I’d have to do mail order

Ooh, i got stung by a wasp in a restaurant in Thailand and the waiter rubbed that into my hand and the pain went away instantly
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 27, 2005 08:56:
I HATE wasps/bees!!! I was stung by this whole swarm of them when I was a kid. Well, I think it was about 3, but never mind. Anyway, I have to move VERY quickly when I see one coming towards me and everyone always laughs at me!
girl7twenty7 said on August 27, 2005 22:09:
@pw I’m glad you and your mum are alright :) I also am afraid of bees and wasps and I’m acting just like you when i see one flying around or towards me! :D
on_a_mission said on August 27, 2005 23:20:
Dear paul,
I think drink driving is totally unacceptable. My best wishes to you and your mum.
to whoever mentioned tigerbalm: that is good stuff! Its used my Thaiboxers who get nasty pains! Its good for bruising and stuff, but I’d see the doctor if some drunken tool hit me with their car!
Tigerbalm is just an analgesic, it takes the swelling out of bruises and stuff, but not much more.
LittleSpooky said on August 28, 2005 04:23:
OAM: It’s always helped me with my shoulder (and the occassional headache). I look at it this way, I keep using Tigerbalm for now... I don’t have to go in for surgery and wind up losing over 50% mobility in my arm (reconstructive).
I can’t complain... I’m only 30 and want to keep all my parts, but more importantly, I’m very active... and this would put a SERIOUS damper on job hunting and what not.
on_a_mission said on August 29, 2005 12:17:
spooky,
don’t get me wrong, I love it as well. And I HATE the thought of surgery, being in my 20s and all.
ally77 said on August 21, 2005 07:31:
Some people have no respect for anything or anyone.... no doubt the arse that caused the accident will do it again as some people just do no learn....
Hope your okay.... :)
