Cyndi Lauper - under-appreciated legend!

It continually perplexes me that Cyndi Lauper has been sooooooooooooooo overlooked. I have been a fan since 83 (showing my age) but her more recent efforts (cds and live! dvds) totally showcase her brilliance. Anyone else on the board like?
Fave stuff has to be the Sisters of Avalon and Shine cds.......and her Hatful of Stars song is truly gut-wrenching!

Shine , is the BEST , it is a few years old and would of took her to new heights if relesed for real, its been fu**ed up that may times with release dates its come out over 3 years in drips and drabs only been avali for download over last year before that only release was japan.

I never fully appreciated what an incredible vocalist she is until I heard “I’m Gonna Be Strong.” But I caught up... (-: I love “Sisters of Avalon,” I return to this album over and over for songs like “When Hot Gets a Little Cold” and “Unhook the Stars.” I didn’t think much of the “Shine” CD (except for the brilliant title track) and my wife likes “At Last” but this style of music only sounds good to me when Marie sings it... (-; She’s definitely underappreciated, but it was nice to see “At Last” get a proper worldwide release and some recognition.

i also like her, early stuff like ’True colours’ etc, can’t say i’ve heard any of her new stuff, got any links to where i could find out more?
roxtexanet said on August 10, 2005 01:32:
@filfish: You could try her official homepage, http://www.cyndilauper.com, it’s a good fan-run site, been around for ages, became official a few years ago just before “At Last” was released. Good luck!
filfish said on August 10, 2005 01:48:
thanks roxtexanet
will certainly do that, been using the net for about 6 years to do with Uni degree and work but never got round to using it for myself so thanks for the link, any ideas as to when Roxette are touring Europe (ideally UK or France)?
roxtexanet said on August 10, 2005 04:25:
Roxette? If I had the answer to that, I could sell it for a million bucks (-; Marie has sort of ducked out of Roxette-related business for the time being, presumably because she’s still recovering from cancer but it’s unclear whether she and Per will work together as Roxette again in any case. We’re all hoping, though! You might want to browse some of the old news on the front page to get up to speed, there’s been a few hints recently of what the future holds for Roxette but nothing definite.

is it true She Bop is about masturbation...?
Her cover album was not succesful right??? Didn´t she tour with Cher recently?!
Shame Madonna became “bigger” than Cyndi even Cyndi can sing :( It´s a hard life!!

off topic: under-rated: Bonnie Tyler, Robin Beck, Alannah Myles.

At the height of her popularity around 1984 - 1985, Cyndi made an unannounced, surprise appearance at a US convention of radio disc jockeys, and stayed an entire afternoon visiting informally with them, circulating among them, signing autographs and so forth – to thank them for playing her songs on their shows. She told them that they had “made” her career, with the air time they devoted to her songs, and she was extremely grateful. Wasn’t that a humble, considerate gesture for her to have made? Few other successful artists would have done that. Once most of them achieve success, they simply become (in their own minds) a whole lot better than mere ordinary people.

Kimmy Wilde does rok too......her duet with Nena in 2003 is totally sensational but also love her 80s and 90s stuff......Who Do You Think You Are is pure pop klass!
coyboyusa said on August 14, 2005 14:19:
omg i love taylor dane ut the late part of her carrer her mangament has really messed up tying to make her another madonna she’s fine the way she is and her voice......love will lead you back is such a great song. Bonnie raitt has a new album coming out this month, she’s had me hooked since nick of time and she’s a very down to earth woman
realsuga said on August 15, 2005 10:20:
I agree= Taylor’s work from 93 onwards was seriously mis-managed and the thing is it’s where she put out some of her finest songs....the Soul Dancing cd is sensational from start to finish, but her Naked Without You cd also has some fine moments. Her VH-1 make-over will b interesting.....can’t w8!

Cyndi is a VERY underrated vocalist–one of the best singers of all time.
You have to see her sing live–one of the few acts who actually sounds better in concert than on her recordings.
When Cyndi released her “At Last” record(I thought she did a great job singing the standards, and way better than Rod Stewart’s cheap attempt at singing the classics), it debuted at #38 on Billboards top 200 albums chart. It is so far her highest debuting record in all of her career, even beating “She’s So Unusual” and “True Colors,” in its first week of release. I think it has sold close to 500,000 copies, since ’03.
Her new album will reportedly be out this Nov. 8th of ’05 on Sony.

I think Cyndi is a brilliant singer. I think her wacky image stopped her from being taken as seriously as she should be, but she’s definitely one of the great female singers.
LaMan said on August 9, 2005 18:05:
I do like her. Many ppl says they like Shine EP but I don´t think it was very succesful because ppl download music?
Sure she was one of the biggest stars of the 80s.
