Per says Marie is irreplaceable

Suddenly I kept on thinking about these wonderful words said by Per yesterday and after to watch Mazarin DVD on TV once again I wonder myself and I´d like to ask him this question:
Was Marie replaced when Helena sang Segla på ett moln, På promenad genom stan and Tända en sticka till trying to imitate the marie´s voice at a perfect way?
I really love Per but their words make me get confused today, I think!

Bear in mind that Marie was more than likely unavailable to tour with Per at the time. Maybe because of the whole tumour issue?

Those three songs that I mention are solo songs sang originally by “Per and Marie” and sound very alike to the style created in roxette like a duo. Personally I think that Marie was replaced by Helena at least in those songs on scen, specially when they sang Segla på ett moln. I´m not talking about the reasons why marie didn´t appear on scen, I´m just trying to tell that Helena sang that song “like a duo with Per”. Besides note that I´m not talking about roxette, I´m just talking about Per Gessle. Per said: Marie is irrepleaceable and now I undertand, he talks about roxette. Maybe I missundertood this time.

Fine, Marie sang on a couple of his solo records, but they were HIS records...she was just a backing singer. Do you expect him to sing them without a female vocalist out of respect for Marie? per, marie or roxette are not products... to go on with this example they are rather a company (or a brand) which sells different products - some products everyone likes (you know the big successful hits) and some things are loved by just a few (f.e. “cooper”) ... so i think it’s totally ok if per wants to sing with helena - as long he don’t call it roxette - because we all know (every album booklet says it too): ROXETTE IS/ARE MARIE FREDRIKSSON AND PER GESSLE.

haha! if that was supposed to be the intention.. “imitate” Marie’s voice.. it worked.. NOT! Marie doesn’t make me get a headache after hearing one song with her ;)

honestly I think she tried to imite the maries voice when she sang Segla pa ett moln with per. it sounded chilling at least for me. she seems to be a good singer, I think, but Im sure she will never dare to sing a roxette song with per. He wont let that either, hehe.

The backing vocals on PPGS dont belong to Marie, because it was a Per Gessle solo record. He was the artist that recorded the CD and all the other musicians were just hired to do their job. It is no different to if he had replaced a guitarist or a drummer if they couldnt make it on tour with him.
It would be a different story altogether if he got Helena to sing Maries part in a Roxette song.
Thats my opinion anyway

In my opinion Marie’s part in PPGS was more than small and you could hardly hear her. It would have matched much more if she had done the backing vocals as well. IMHO.

I do think that you can very easily hear that it is Marie who is singing in the background of PPGS. It’s her very special way to pronounce some words, especially when she sings “men vad behöver man mer”. That’s a way just Marie can sing.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Cd-version of PPGS is sung by Marie, right? Why are you talking about a replacement when the song (background) is originally sung by Marie?

At the Mazarin tour Marie’s part was sung by Helena, background by the band members.

well said sascha, so finally ... if the marie‘s part was sung by Helena then that means that marie was replaced by Helena at least in those songs, it´s really simple and plain to see, I think.

He meant that she was irreplaceable in Roxette. He sang PPGS on a solo tour. Would you rather he dragged Marie kicking and screaming on to stage for every date of his tour, so she could sing a few harmonies?
