Not going though, gave tickets to someone who wants them.

i think the line up is uummmm, abit out dated to be all that honest with you. , im not looking foward to it all that much like the hype surrounding it , but its for a good thing though.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on June 15, 2005 15:06:
Looking forward to seeing the USA show more than the UK one. They seem to be having better acts. Well one in particular!! A lot of you might not agree though.
tevensso (moderator) said on June 15, 2005 15:16:
I only want to see Bon Jovi, the rest of the line up seems outdated and pretentious.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on June 15, 2005 15:28:
Lot’s of agreeing with Tev! That’s why I want to see the USA one!!
Jud (moderator) said on June 15, 2005 15:35:
hm? @_@ are you looking at the same list as I do?
what’s wrong in seeing Annie Lennox? Madonna? Dido? Elton? PAUL? REM? Pink Floid? Robbie? Coldplay?
And even if I don’t like them so much, U2, Sting? The Cure?
On the other hand, from the US show I’d be only interested in BJ
I miss the Boss tho.
Ok, I’m outdated..?
pwbbounce (moderator) said on June 15, 2005 15:39:
@ Judith, you’re not outdated. I’m just a huge Jovi fan who really can’t wait for a tour!
I’d live to see Coldplay, U2, Dido etc... But just not as much as Jovi.
Oldag75 said on June 15, 2005 16:22:
What is the estimate of how much money will be taken in, and what portion of that will actually go to charity? And, to what charity organizations will the money go? Who is to monitor whether the money is actually used to aid people, or if it merely flows into the coffers of dictators and tribal warlords?
pwbbounce (moderator) said on June 15, 2005 16:38:
Can’t believe people were selling them on eBay when the tickets are free and any proceeds are for charity. Don’t know how they can do it. So glad it’s stopped!
But for how long......
ally77 said on June 15, 2005 16:39:
BG kicked up a fuss, so I think eBay will be watching carefully...
Santi said on June 15, 2005 17:17:
What’s the point in giving free tickets to a benefic concert? :D
Do they give a percentage of the drink sales to some obscure NGO or what?
ncurran said on June 15, 2005 18:11:
Some of you dont see what these Live 8 concerts are all about. The object is NOT to raise money. The money from the text messages will go towards the staging of the concerts and any left over money will go to some school building projects in Africa, but unlike Live Aid in the 80’s the main objective is not to raise money, rather they are to raise awareness of the situation and also to lobby the politicians gathering for the G8 summit in Gleneagles to do something about the problem.
tevensso (moderator) said on June 15, 2005 19:26:
Annie Lennox - pretentious and very dated
Madonna - me no like, but at least she’s a good performer
Dido - Does she even qualify?
Elton John - Boring and dated
Paul McCartney - Good enuff :)
REM - pretentious!!
Pink Floyd - yawn...
Robbie Williams - not my cuppa, but sure, not bad
Coldplay - dunno much about them, probably OK
U2 - wow, can you say PRETENTIOUS!
Sting - Pretentious and dated
The Cure - dated and possibly pretentious
Bon Jovi - rocks!
Stevie Wonder - no...
50 cent - no like
P Diddy - no like
Mariah Carey - yuk!
Jamiroquai - what can I say?
Andrea Bocelli - dated!
Mano Chao - unknown to me
Crosby, Stills and Nash - dated!!
Lauryn Hill - no thanx
Duran Duran - yes, may be OK, dated though
Laura Pausini - what??
Maroon 5 - good enough
Jay-Z - no!
So I may have missed many but still, it’s not a great line-up, is it?
Santi said on June 15, 2005 19:49:
Oh well, Thomas... good they didn’t ask you for Roxette... I wonder if you would enable some bold text feature just to write “DATED” after them :D
EDIT: Btw, give a try to Manu Chao...

@tev,
that could be post of the century above.
Furthermore, I’m (excuse me) totally F**king sick of Bob Geldof’s PRETENTIOUS (to quote tev) out dated and positively patronising statments to the world:
’Its time for the boys and girls with guitars to change the world’
F**k OFF!
You mean a bunch of two bit nobodies and a few chords will actually put food on someone’s plate?
I bet Bono hasn’t even bought a mate a hamburger in the last 10 years.

Sparvogamarie said on June 17, 2005 06:19:
Ncurran: agree with you. It’s a charity event and everyone wants to quibble over the artist line up? Anyone consider that perhaps they have chosen “dated” artists because they want to attract an older audience? What are Britney Spears fans going to do about starving kids? It’s people in their 30s and 40s who can actually make a difference, makes more sense to attract them than a bunch of teeny boppers who wouldn’t even understand the concept of charity.
coyboyusa said on June 17, 2005 13:34:
u got this all wrong tev
Annie Lennox - solo material too depressing for an aid concert
Madonna - can i perform with voice over because watching my nanny raise the kids is tiring
Dido - is this sleep aid?
Elton John - guess we’re trying to recruit middle aged gay men to donate
Paul McCartney - OLD AND DATED
REM - more sleeping pills please
Pink Floyd - talking about OLD
Robbie Williams - more gay male marketing
Coldplay - can you say publicity stunt
U2 - hasn’t bono opened his mouth enough?
Sting - YAWN more sleeping pills
The Cure - eh goths don’t donate to aid charieits anyway
Bon Jovi - PRETENTIOUS ALBUM PUBLICITY STUNT
Stevie Wonder - ALBUM PUBLICITY STUNT
50 cent - murders pewrform at aid concerts?
P Diddy - if anyone should be dead its him
Mariah Carey - recruiting teen boys i guess
Jamiroquai - did i hear the echoes of one hit wonder
Andrea Bocelli - YAWN
Mano Chao - who the hell?
Crosby, Stills and Nash - recruiting rednecks and pot smokers
Lauryn Hill - didnt she quit the music biz? hypocrite?Duran Duran - YES
Laura Pausini - pissi? what?
Maroon 5 - worth seeing adam levine writhe on stage
Jay-Z - what has this monkey done to benefit humanity beside shoto people promote violence and support peopels drug habits?
coyboyusa said on June 17, 2005 13:35:
and sparvoga its the youth of the world who have the biggest potential go give to charities, are you saying they should not encourage young people to donate and get involved?
StillFar said on June 17, 2005 15:21:
Why is it that every “try-to-change-the-world” attempt receives such a negative reaction in this forum? If you don’t like it, don’t go! Where’s the point in judging people standing for something? They’re singers and it’s within their territory to put an event like that together S:
And how is it that a guy who wrote many brainless lyrics (“How do you do”, “Real Sugar”, “Big L.”, should I go on) is considered by many the greatest songwriter/artist ever, while some other people who certainly had a much bigger influence on the way music developed over the last decades are considered pretentious and dated?
pwbbounce (moderator) said on June 17, 2005 16:17:
Well put StillFar. I love Roxette and Per, but sometimes, even the biggest fans have gotta admit, his lyrics can be, how shall I put it, CRAP! There are many many better writers out there, some who will never get the chance to be in the music business because of how they look or appear etc, and some who have made it big in the music biz. That’s just my opinion anyway.
A lot of the people appearing have had a much bigger impact on the music scene over the last 20-30 years than Roxette have. Hope I don’t pi*& people off by saying this, but it’s the truth if you look at record sales, chart positions etc...
Why do I keep editing???
Anyway, guess what I want to say is that the line up isn’t that bad. You’re never gonna please everyone with every artist anyway!
P.S If Bon Jovi’s appearance is a pretentious album promo, than at least they’re promoting.... (and hope it works!)
on_a_mission said on June 18, 2005 01:06:
I’ve never been one to argue roxette were ever influential. and Per does write CRAP, as someone so elegantly put it.
However, he makes pop for the masses and he knows he can’t change the world.
’Protest songs are for the 80s’
I can’t work out whether live8 is just a cynical cash haul or plain niave.
Its probably about a bunch of artists desperate to hold onto their position as pop glitterati, or for the newbies make something that lasts beyond their commercial and temporal music.
Sparvogamarie said on June 18, 2005 08:59:
I think it would be lame if Per started writing change the world songs, it wouldn’t fit him at all. I think he said once “I write pop songs that make you forget your problems for 3 minutes.” But I respect the people like Geldof and Bono who try to do something with their fame other than buy a bigger swimming pool. How often do Rox get involved in something like this? Marie appeared at the europride once...then she signed up to appear at a bunch of charity events and cancelled every time! Let’s face it, neither she or Per are big on making a difference!

@tevensso: great list! Also there will be a message from Queen. They can´t play on this concert because today they will play in Portugal. When they played on Live Aid in 1985 so they were the best band on that concert!
Breathe8 said on July 2, 2005 12:37:
I think Pet Shop Boys doesn´t play already together. I remember their hit “Go West”. It was a really great song.

MiracleMan said on July 2, 2005 17:20:
MTV & VH1 are “covering” London & Philadelphia, but it’s spotty and frustrating. I can hear some bands in the background while they interview the crowd in between commercials, occasionally playing what amounts to rather long clips of a few of the bands’ performances—so far no one I really want to see.
Kiwein1 said on July 3, 2005 08:02:

LaMan said on July 3, 2005 15:29:
she‘s the best selling female artist of the 90s so... you are so wrong.
kachina008 said on July 3, 2005 18:22:
Mariah was being weird on stage...all flustered and patronizing. She looked like she had been pumped up on variuos parts of her face...it looked strange. As for her being the best selling artist in the 90s, I agree, her first two albums were the only ones worth listening to.
I had goosebumps with Robbie williams on stage, and The Who really totally rocked. Will Smith was also spectacular.
Am pretty sceptical about Live8 as well, but when I saw those many people just being there, enjoying the music and showing all that solidarity, the only thing on my mind was relief that in spite of all the wars and killings and bs, maybe music *can* really make us stand together. that’s a start innit?
nancy_girl said on July 3, 2005 22:51:
aaaahhh i just came back from Paris and it was amazing!!! i went there for Placebo, and met up with my friends from France, England and Holland who i love to death and get to see way too seldom, but we had an incredible time and Placebo and the Cure were worth everything. I hoped they’d play a song together, but it was great anyway.

LaMan...how can i hate Mariah? Quite simple. Whenever i look at her pretentious face i want to either vomit or slap her face. I cannot stand the woman or her music. I didnt really hate her with such a passion until she abandoned what she was good at and joined the rent-a-rapper bandwagon. Her and JLO make my stomach turn equally.
Anyway, i thought that overall the concert on saturday was great....at least until the end when the hasbeens such as Pink floyd and the who took to the stage *yawn*
MiracleMan said on July 5, 2005 16:42:
I heard that there was a DVD release scheduled for the fall sometime—maybe by November. It will be interesting to see how they comple and edit the thing. There were a lot of acts that we here in the states never saw perform. There were so many at the London stage that I heard in passing but nothing more. (One emcee announced Travis was on stage and I thought I heard Why Does It Always Rain On Me? but then they cut to Philly.) I was hoping that I’d get to see Annie Lennox perform, but the only glimpses I got of her was in the finale.
I think it’ll come down to who’s the most popular (or in the case of Floyd, McCartney, The Who, “legends”) at this moment as to who gets on the DVD. And unless it’s a double or triple disc set, there’s no chance that everyone will get on there.
ncurran said on July 5, 2005 19:34:
Are you talking to me or Judith?
I dont think Mariah is attractive at all, but then i am a gay man. Her face is all screwed up, kind of monkey like, and she dresses like a slut. Its her attitude that stinks most of all though. What is there to be jealous of?
pwbbounce (moderator) said on July 6, 2005 09:30:
Saw an interview with her the other day and she just seems so false. Everything she says as crap. And when she talks why has she got that stupid smile on all the time. Very annoying!
ncurran said on July 6, 2005 12:14:
I saw a video of her the other day coming out of some building, and there was a homeless person outside. With lots of photographers present she saw this as a great photo opportunity. She didnt say a word to him, but knelt down (with her back to him) and a big smile and posed for the photographers, then got up and left without so much as looking at him. It was quite funny, but kind of showed just how shallow she is
chrisjankunas said on July 6, 2005 13:39:
You can’t hate someone you don’t know! ;)
Just out of curiousity though, what do people mean when they say she is false???? Its not as if anyone here knows her behind the veil to be able to comment like that.
lol at the above post!
chrisjankunas said on July 6, 2005 18:55:
My only problem with her is her squeeling when she does sing. A lot of singers that can sing do it - WHitney Houston at the end of I will always... Like that they have to fit as many notes in one breath as possible. Sigh!
To Ally - I didn’t think she was bad, I just dislike ythe wailng. And the whole mic stand thing made me laugh “If you cant find one thats cool” - what was you saying on the inside Miriah lol?
