Coldplay-Speed of sound

What do you think of this song?

I’ve allways been a big Coldplay fan and I still am, but I am really disappointed of this song. It sounds like they are copying theirselves and take main elements of “Clocks” for this new song. I mean it’s not a bad song, but it sounds like Coldplay sellout. The released a song everyone expected and everyone buys. Hope the album will be better...

alot of reviewrs say it sounds like a whimpy version of beautiful day by u2, and i agree, but liek so many annoying coldplay songs if you heard it about a dozen times it gets stuck in your head, eh i dunno whatever happeneed to them claiming that rush of blood to the head would be thier last album?

I didnt like it at first but, it grew on me and i like it now. Looking forward to the album. I ordered it, so should arrive in the next few days. Either you like that type of music or you dont. You could accuse almost every artist of having a lot of songs that sound the same. Its their sound, and as a fan i wouldnt want to depart from it too much anyway

Yeah I liked the song, so I ordered the album also... hoping it arrives soon!

Also have tickets for them live in July, seeing as they are playing in my home town at the footie stadium I could not resist! Last night it was Elton John!

Ally, I’m seeing them on 1st July in Glasgow.

wow, youre right about kylie’s too far. Just listened to it and the piano bit does seem to be exactly the same tune

Coldplay guys are funny :)

i think coldolay are way overrated. Its just MOR. plain and simple.

If they were American, you wouldn’t even have heard of them in the UK

@ ncurran... you’ll have to tell me how it goes... I am so looking forward to seeing them play my town! :)

Ally, yeah I’ll let you know.

I got the album this week and its seriously growing on me

Yeah I love the album to, got it a couple of days ago! I am surprised I never got into Coldplay before...

Coldplay more or less admittted they lifted elements (drums especially) from Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill:

Coldplay have just released their new album, X&Y. In several recent interviews the band has revealed that the new single Speed Of Sound was inspired by Kate Bush. Bassist Guy Berryman admitted that it was written in an attempt to copy the drum sound in Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” Singer Chris Martin said that the track was written in the summer of 2004 and inspired by two very different women; Kate and Martin’s daughter Apple, who was just a few months old at the time. “That’s a song where we were listening to a lot of Kate Bush last summer, and we wanted a song which had a lot of tom-toms in it,” Martin said. “I just had my daughter up also, and was kind of feeling in a sense of awe and wonderment, so the song is kind of a Kate Bush song about miracles.”

I hear it in the chorus melody—the same progression, especially at the beginning.

It does remind me a lot of Clocks too. As much as I like them, I think a lot of their songs sound similar, melody-wise.

Got the new album on Saturday. I like it, even though a few of the songs remind me of previous efforts. I think it will grow on me. On the other hand, it’s about 10 times better than the new Oasis album!! I don’t even want to go into that. So dissapointed!

I love coldplay!! Especially clocks!! I got the new speed of sounds on limited edition - clear vinyl!

I find Coldplay boring and overrated too :)

aprilsnow, your definitely onto something there! I’d have to agree that its exactly the same tune.

I’ve never really liked coldplay, when they hit it big with Yellow, it was an ok song, but i found all of their songs too similar. I don’t think i could ever listen to one of their albums.

the only reason yello took off was the video was homoerotic, other than that the band is bland, and i have to agree the new oasis album is crap, and yet it brok the billboard top 20 in its first week

Coyboy, Yellow took off because it was a fantastic song...had nothing to do with the video, at least in europe, as i cant speak for america. Videos actually have much less impact on chart success than people think

Don’t even remember seeing the Yellow video? I did like that song though. I won’t buy a song/album just because I’ve seen the video. I’ll buy a song/album because I like the song/album. That’s a lot of song/albums!! Oh there’s another one.....

I think I’ve been at work too long today..

@ ncurran .... be sure to let me know how you get on! :)

posted twice... whoops!

it is a fantastic song. Coldplay can do some fantastic songs but they can sometimes be a little bit boring.

Did anyone see their cover of Kylie’s Can’t get you out of my head at Glastonbury. It was pretty cool.
Anyway i see them in concert on friday, so i cant wait

Coldplay covering a Kylie song?? I can’t imagine how that would sound?!

yellow is a mediocre song that got attention for its video if you don’t believe me there’s plent of songs that go notice for their videos and the songs were tather boring

bjorks: army of me, human nature

madonna: bed time stories, american life, american pie

and honestly coldplays arrogant assertiont hat they will ever top u2 flat out crap, they have failed to do in 3 albums what u2 accomplished in one, creat heart felt univerallly graped songs not driven by trends or hype, and i hate bono and i am saying this

RobS, yeah as Kylie was due to headline the festival on the sunday night, a number of the acts paid tribute to her as she had to pull out because of her illness. Coldplay covered CGYOOMH, as did Basement Jaxx (who replaced her on the bill.) Also Shirley from Garbage dedicated the last song they played to her, as they are good friends. Anyway, if you want to watch Coldplay’s Kylie cover, you can download it here. The quality is not that great, but the file is pretty small. I also have a good quality mp3 of the performance if anyone wants it.

ncurran, link doesn’t work :-(

@ Coyboy: Dunno what vid you had in the USA for “Yellow”, but i can assure you that him running down the beach in the European and ROW video had nothing to do with “Yellow”s chart success. It’s a bloody marvelous song. I saw it once online, got the mp3 and had to wait 5 months before they got an international contract!!! After everyone found Coldplay mildly interesting, I lost interest.

Hmmm..... I wonder when JJ72’s new album will be coming out.....

Rob, try this link...though i dont think rapidshare works if you are on AOL
http://rapidshare.de/files/2705377/Coldplay-cgyoomh.wmv.html

he looked like a homo erotic twink thats what sold the song through the video, the song isn;’t ” bloody fasntastic” its soemthing a 3 yr old with a yellow crayon could write

Thanks for the link, ncurran :-)

Wasn’t too bad, but it was just strange to me, them singing a Kylie song.. really didn’t fit them at all.

How did it go?

Coldplay - Live Tonight!

cannot wait! should be a good evening! :)

Sorry Ally, i suppose by the time you read this you will have already seen them...but ive been in glasgow all weekend and just got back this afternoon.
Coldplay were great, but the one thing that put a bit of a downer on it for me were the crowd. The gates opened at 4:30 and it was a nice day so loads of people were drunk and there were lots of neds (chavs). I felt more like i was at an Oasis concert with all the lovely beer showers i got and people pushing and shoving their way past me towards the front. The band themselves were great though, and Chris Martin built up a good rapport with the audience.

I was at a Will Young concert last night at Stirling castle and i actually enjoyed that a lot more as the venue was perfect and the crowd was a lot more civilised. His band were great, and he has a lot more charisma than i thought...a born performer i think.

Am setting off in the next 20 minutes or so! I don’t think we will be allowed in with beers, so gonna have to buy it in there, steep prices at the reebok! mind you same at most venues like this!

I am looking forward to it, except it’s raining which spoils it a little...

Excellent live... I really enjoyed myself! It made it better knowing it was in my town and that I did have to worry about getting home!

Some of the crowd where a bit of pains in the arse, but the security suit banned some of the ones that where spoiling other people’s fun!

Downside was the cost of the beers... phew sneak my own in next time!

Been tons of letters in the paper from complainers about the noise and the transport chaos! It was only 60,000 people.....
