Did this song get any airplay on radio stations or on MTV when it was released in the USA in 1992?
Any promotion at all?? Anyone remembers?
Ive always wondered why this song only reached #58 ( or something) in the Billboard charts, only one year after the huge success of “Joyride” and all its singles..

HDYD was a single in US..alos can’t remember the chart postion, but it did make radio’s top 40 (only 30-so9mething I believe). And why did it do so poorly? Well if I remember correctly the guy that was Roxette’s main “ally” at EMI America (Herbie Herbert...I think) left EMI around the time of the release of Spending My Time..I suppose it was all downhill from there. I never saw the video for HDYD on MTV. There were some print and tv ads promoting ’Live-ism and Tourism showing clips from the HDYD vid..not much promo really. Roxette also came here to promote performing HDYD and Heartshaped sea on the Tonight Show..not sure what else they may have done while they were here.

I saw the video on the TV once—might have been MTV, but I was in grad school at the time and TV was not a high priority for me then. Other than that I don’t recall seeing it or even hearing it that much on the radio at the time.
And the last time I heard a Rox song on the radio as a new release was WICF (in the Chicago area) the summer after HAND was released—probably around the DBU Edel compilation was released.

How Do You Do also charted on The Top 40 Mainstream chart at 34 and Hot 100 Singles Airplay at 70. And no other singles were released from Tourism in the US where the album spent 8 weeks on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums chart peaking at 117. How awfully bad!

By the way, one weird notion from Billboard chart data is that Un Dia Sin Ti spent 7 weeks in February-March of 97 on “Latin Pop Airplay” chart. It even peaked at number 10! O_o

The Spanish ballads were very popular in Spanish speaking countries, and the United States is a Spanish speaking country (according to the official Spanish language dictionary at least). So I don’t think is that surprising.

@ above
I know US is a Spanish speaking country...It’s the 2nd biggest language there after English.
But the thing was that Roxette had disappeared in the US by 1997 and still UDST did quite well on the radio.

In my opinion the Spanish-speaking market and the English-speaking market are two very different markets, even if it’s the same country.

According to my Billboard Top Pop Singles book, “How Do You Do!” spent 8 weeks on the Hot 100, not 5. As another poster pointed out, it reached #70 Airplay. So yes, it did get some airplay. In fact, my local AC station here in Grand Rapids, Michigan played the hell out of it! I used to hear it all the time actually, and it inspired me to buy ’Tourism.’ It was one of my first Roxette memories!

It only reached the lower positions of the Billboard Hot 100 for the same reason as Spending My Time...Which was bound to be a huuuuge ballad in the States! No sufficient promotion whatsoever!
Besides this, doesn’t HDYD belong to the same cateogry as The Big L. that was never released in the USA...Too European I’d say...Don’t know...there’s just something about those songs. Anyway, I will try to remember to get your some chart statistics for How Do You Do! from Billboard. :)
