ROOM SERVICE memories

What did you think when you heard TCOTH for the first time? Loved it! What a fresh, dynamic sound!!

I was late: 3rd single off the album MATAH was released as a single until I bought RS myself!! :)
2001 was a year I became a fan AGAIN. (in 2000 I wasn´t very active fan and had no Internet access yet.)

Can´t believe that was 4 years ago! Time flies!

Can’t remember if I bought it in late 2001 or early 2002. Either way, I was very pleased with my purchase. :) I’d heard TCOTH long before I bought the album (naughty me downloaded it *hides*).

Must admit, I prefer Per’s hairstyle from RS more than HAND.

Side note: I like how the sleeves from the albums since HAND have had that glossy look to it. Nice and smooth and shiney. :)

When i first heard TCOTH, I got goose bumps, i loved it from soon as i heard it, and its still my fave Rox song , And fave vid, the colours the style, ThEY WHERE MAD not to release the song in UK ! MAD I TELL YOU MAD hehe

When I heard “The centre of the heart” I thought Roxette had done a masterpiece pop hit. I didn’t understand some words from people about TCOTH said it was a “The Look”-not so good. TCOTH has own style, it’s a very great song. it deserved to be the first single :D

I hear the song for first time on TV, watching the video. I must admit I didn’t feel specially excited about it. I think it’s just an average song, not among Roxette’s best. I agree it was the first single best choice, but I’m not a big fan of that song.

I love the single sleeve, anyway. LOL Green is my favourite colour, and it was the first Roxette release plenty of green!

i got tcoth from napster and i hated it from the very begining.

When I first heard TCOTH I wasn’t really impressed, but I started to like it soon afterwards. The live version, with more guitar, is the best I think.
The first time I heard the whole album I was very happy, because I thought it was so great!
The Room Service Tour was much better than their previous tour in my opinion. Too bad they only played 3/4 new songs...

TCOTH? Good choice for a first single off the album, unquestionable. A Masterpiece? Not for me anyway... missed the instant thing that e.g. TL, HDYD! and WICF had. Nonetheless, Room Service contains in my eyes one of the biggest masterpieces Roxette have ever made... served as ... MILK AND TOAST AND HONEY, for which even the video is just stunning I think.

I agree with Marcus, MATAH is the best song on Room Service!!! That’s the reason that I want that song winning in the current poll!!!

Did you move to Ireland? I remember you are from The Netherlans!!!

MATAH is one of their BEST videos EVER if you ask me!!

First that I thought about TCOTH was “A really good very much Rox song with amazing string instrumental part which is taking your somewhere...” :)

Hmm... You know, MATAH didn’t impressed me first at all. I was surprised how lots of people could say it’s WONDERFUL. Later i liked it much more, after a beautiful video and especially after hearing the demo.

I don’t agree with MATAH the best Room Service song. The best is “The centre of the heart”. For me and for a lot of people it’s a big song, in my case, one of my faves (the clip too). MATAH is great, beautiful but TCOTH is better, a masterpiece up-tempo song, so different than other Roxette songs, the style is soo “the centre”. I think it’s a song well rated but it should be more :)

By the way, Staffany and others can say MATAH is the best and all people think that... I don’t think so. MATAH or TCOTH have our own fans for the poll, and I saw people voting out both, MATAH including other rounds. There is no song favourite for everybody, that’s not true. And the winner in the poll... :)

I didn’t know it was Roxette :D Actually a neighbour who knew I was a fan of them, came to knock on my door to tell me the new single was on air in Mix Megapol, I think.

I was asking him: “Are you serious, that’s Roxette?” :D

I have problems recognising new songs of my favourite bands it seems, for in 1999 I couldn’t link Wish I Could Fly to Roxette either, nor “D’you know what I mean?” to Oasis in 1997. Probably the case of WICF was the worse, cuz I had heard that song before and I actually did not like it that much.

I have more Room Service memories. I remember that when the CD came out, I was an exchange student in Sweden. It is very common that exchange students do lots of trips, and my mates had planned a trip to Tallinn, Estonia, for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, by boat. Which usually means a lot party in the boat and cheaper alcohol (it is not really difficult to sell cheaper than Systembolaget...), you know :D
So I knew the CD would be on the stores on Monday, which was the 2nd of April if I am not mistaken. And that I would be in Tallinn by then. I did not trust too much the fact that in Estonia the album would hit the stores that day, and so I spent the whole day, while touring around the city, entering in the places that seemed to sell CDs, looking for it and asking the sellers for it. In most places they did not even know Roxette was releasing a new album, which made me quite desperate... the whole world enjoying latest Rox release and the only thing I could listen was TCOTH and The Look in the ferry’s disco the previous night.
So I could not buy it on Monday... but in my mind, it would not be later than Tuesday as soon as the stores were open :D
So we were back in Scandinavia (Frihamnen) the following morning and I told my mates that I just had to leave as soon as possible, so I would not be waiting for them or anything. Sweden was quite paranoid about imported meat and milk stuff by then, I guess you all remember, so the controls in the customs were long... even more coming from outside the EU. I declared some Milka egg chocolates and Ferrero Rocher and the cop told me almost laughing: “It’s ok, you can pass” :DDDD
And there I was almost running to the bus to Sergels Torg, with my photocopied fake month ticket of SL (the Stockholm’s transport system). I pass by so fast that I’m sure the driver did not noticed it didn’t shine :D
Anyway, I got to Sergels Torg, and I went to the store, it was deserted, only me, and all of it full of Roxette banners and there it was, the CD, my CD!! Poor CD, had been waiting for me a whole day :D
Even not trusting at all Estonia’s awareness of the most important happening of the week for me, I was careful enough as to bring my CD-player with me all the way over the Baltic :D So I came out of the store all the way up Klarabergsgatan ripping the cellophane and compulsively putting the CD inside the player... the headphones in my ears... and... ACTION!!!!
I still remember myself vividly walking down those horribly dirty stairs that take you down from Klarabergsgatan to Stockholm Central station like a zombie in trance listening to the CD. I thought that Real Sugar was the song of that CD, that somehow in all Roxette’s CDs the first songs are so much better than the second (The Look/Dressed for Success, Joyride/Hotblooded, How Do You Do!/Fingertips, Riders in the sky/Crash!Boom!Bang!, Crush on You/Wish I Could Fly, June Afternoon/You Don’t Understand Me) except in their first CD. So something had not changed, because I had seen the second was TCOTH (The only one I knew) and this was so much better :D
Well, this was the memory of how I bought it ;) Hope some had read it :D

I remember getting Room Service for free on april 1, the day before it was released in the stores. It was in MEGA, where they had this “Roxette-party” for competition winners and some other ppl ( like me :). after that, it was time for the gig at the Cafe Opera- and that concert was AMAZING. Too bad I was so sick so that I had to go home early :(
When I first heard TCOTH ( on Napster) I didnt thought it was that special. But it sure grew on me with time. The same thing happened to me with both WICF & ATAY..

Nice story Santi! I have also experienced such desperation about getting hold of new Roxette releases :D Rich

Got TCOTH from Napster too... after listening to it, pressed the delete button for like an hour.

I bought Room Service in 2003, LOL. Finally then! I never liked that CD very much, so I took my time. I don’t play it very often, even nowadays. I don’t know, something is missing on that album. Maybe it’s too overproduced. I’m not sure, but I don’t like it at all...

Well, actually yesterday The Centre Of The Heart became the most requested song in one of the most popular Lithuanian radio stations - M-1!!!

WOW Lithuanians seems to have a very good taste!
I like RS shiny booklet btw. You?

With Room Service I became a fan again, I am a fan since 1994 but with the time I listened to other things, but 2001, it was morning, I was in school and we had a kind of free lesson, some schoolmates and I sat around on the sofa and the radio was playing. There was TCOTH, I heard it for the first time and I loved this song from the beginning. After the song it was said that this is the first single of the new album of Roxette and I began to remember that band, so one of the next days I bought the album and I even saw the clip of TCOTH on TV. This was the only time I saw the clip before buying the DVD in March 2003. However, at first I only liked Real sugar, TCOTH and Fool, but now I like also MATAH(my favourite, together with TCOTH), Jefferson, Looking for Jane, It takes you no time to get here and MWMLML and, a little bit less, Try. When I think about Room Service, spring 2001 comes to my mind.

screw tcoth bringing me down to my knees or looking for jane would have been madly successful singles, i think tis kinda sad that roxette went to number one for the forst time in sweden with such a lackluster album as rs

“Do what you want, but hurt noone”

I think Room Service album is a great too, not so good as CBB but better than HAND for me. I love MATAH very much. The Centre of the heart and Real sugar, My world, my love, my life and MATAH are the best songs on albums.

I saw them on their Room Service tour in my city and it was one of my nicest days in my life. My big wish is to see them on street AGAIN. It must not be on concert but only on street!!!! Perhaps I have a little chance in 2006.

All videoclips from RS are very very great!!!!

Bought it the day it came out in Australia (had long since downloaded it off Napster becasue I couldn’t wait for it to be released here!)

Waited for the tour announcement..... booked tickets to South Africa (on top of an already planned Euro trip) so I could go to a New Years Eve concert. The September 11 happened and the South African leg was cancelled... so I canned my South African tour and added more to my Euro trip and caught quite a few concerts..(from memory, andf this isn’t all.. Stockholm, Goteburg, Helsinki, Moscow, Cologne, Vienna)

I missed a great opportunity to meet Per and Marie... In my e-mail, I had a message from the fan club that they wanted me to meet Per and Marie in Helsinki as part of the meet and greet thing they had going, and do a story on me as I had travelled so far to see Roxette play.... I opened the message too late! (My fault I saw it in my inbox, but left it unopened for about 3 weeks...)

Anyway... that was a great time in my life... got to see many parts of Europe that I’d not had the chance to see before, and might not have visited if it were not for the concerts being in neighboring countries. (Poland, the Baltic states, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine, Belarus)

The first time i heard TCOTH was the 30sec clip that the fanclub had. Listened to it over and over, just loved that intro... then I got the full song (from napster) i listened to it all the time, when i finally got the single (had it on pre-order since its release in sweden) i think i was pretty much over the song, but loved Entering Your Heart.

With the album, i remember checking out the website almost everyday to listen to some of the tracks. Felt like forever for RS to be released in australia.
