What would you have done differently?

I was watching the All Videos DVD the other day and when I saw the Big L, I couldn’t help thinking that it was a really bad single choice. All Roxette’s singles had charted pretty well until Big L, so for me it was a mistake.
So I was thinking if I was in charge of releases, I would have skipped the Big L and Church of your heart and released Do You Get Excited and Hotblooded as singles instead.
From Tourism I would have skipped Queen of Rain (beautiful song but bad choice for single) and released The Rain.
CBB - I would have released Harleys and Indians because rock music was popular at the time, and skipped CBB and Vulnerable because ballads were out.
HAND....I would have skipped Anyone and Stars for sure! Actually I probably would have rewritten the whole album if it was up to me, I know we’re all starting to appreciate it now but it still wasn’t the best for their credibility! When WICF came out everyone was talking about their new grown up sound, so I would have strongly encouraged them to stick with that sound than techno pop!! I would release Crush On You though.
Room Service: I probably wouldn’t change that one, they were pretty good single choices.

I think the singles they chose at the moment were pretty good.
Maybe I wouldn’t have chosen COYH as I prefer Things Will Never Be The Same. But the rest of singles are OK.
PS: Well, except for Anyone...Like the song but it was a big mistake not releasing COY.A pity that we can’t go back to change things...

Roxette have had so many good choices of singles it’s hard to be too critical with a few that I would have done differently, but if I had to choose three different, in order of preference, it would be (1) Crush On You instead of Anyone, (2) She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore instead of You Don’t Understand Me, and (3) The Rain instead of Queen Of Rain. All the best, Rich ;-)

From Joyride I would have released Hotblooded or I Remember You.
Crash!Boom!Bang! - Harleys & Indians (Riders In The Sky)
Have A Nice Day - Crush On You
Room Service - Fool

release SDLHA and COY (instead of Salvation or Anyone) as singles and maybe DYGE.

All the singles from Pearls Of Passion, Look Sharp!, Tourism, and Room Service are perfect in my opinion.
From Joyride I would have released (do you get) Excited? instead of Church Of Your Heart.
From Crash!Boom!Bang! I would have released Im Sorry or Lies instead of Run to You and Vulnerable.
From Have A nice Day I wouldent have released Anyone as a single, but Crush On You. (and as the first single, Wish I Could Fly the second).

I never ever would have released “The big l” as a single... don´t like this track at all - although I enjoy it live. It could´ve been replaced by “Small Talk” or “Knockin on every door” or “(Do You Get)Excited?”.
About the CBB album´s single choices, I´d have made some changes...maybe :
1. Sleeping in my car
2. Fireworks
3. Crash Boom Bang
4. Harleys & Indians
5. Run to you
Instead of:
SDLHA ->I don´t want to get hurt
Anyone ->Crush on you
Salvation -> Pay the price
Room Service:
I´d have released “Looking for Jane” as well...

And what would I have done differently? I would have released Room Service tour on DVD! LOL
Sparvogamarie said on March 17, 2005 13:49:
I agree Auryte! RS DVD would be nice!
I was thinking with this topic more if you could have changed something that might have improved their career, not just which singles you prefer. I really think the single choices at the end of Joyride weren’t so great, COYH was pretty much the end of Roxette in America for example. I think if they had released DYGE it might have sent their career in a different direction. I also think they should have done a small US tour after Look Sharp was released instead of waiting so long for the Joyride tour. And the biggest change I would have made is to not take so long between albums and let the world forget them!!!

Well, the longest gap, except this one, was between Baladas En Espanol and Have A Nice Day. Maybe it’s sometimes hard to understand for us, fans, but Per and Marie have families. It’s different now. Though I’d like to see Roxette working as much as they did in the 90’s.

It does seem amazing that an official live or unplugged or both DVD has not been released. Maybe if Roxette come back with a new album in the future then at least some form of live DVD could be released as well? Cheers, Rich ;-)

The Big L is a great song, one of my all times fave... same for Church of Your Heart! :)

I’d have kept the arrangements in the demo for the final version of beautiful things.
Sparvogamarie said on June 16, 2005 13:53:
There is a big difference between a good song and a good single. I adore Queen of Rain, but I think it was a really bad choice of single. And I loved The Big L when I was 12, but I still think it was a bad single and the video was pretty tacky. There were much better singles on Joyride - DYGE, Hotblooded, Small Talk that were more radio friendly, especially DYGE with the sexy videoclip I think it would have been huge.
Kiwein1 said on March 14, 2005 15:49:
From Joyride I would have skipped COYH in any case and replaced it with DYGE. The Big L. wasn’t a bad choice - though I would have released Things will never be the same.
Vulnerable wasn’t the best choice as well - maybe I would have chosen Lies.
And I wouldn’t have changed the singles releases of HAND or RS.
