UK FANS - HELLO!!!
pwbbounce said on March 2, 2005 14:13:
Hey!
It’d be interesting to know how many fans our good pals Per & Marie have in the UK still. How many people have stayed loyal etc.. over the years from their peak to the “quiet” days we are in now.
Drop a reply, saying how long you’ve been a fan, what part of the UK you are in, what made you like Rox etc. Be interesting to know!
We’ll show the people at www.roxette.co.uk, which seems to have died a death. Maybe due to the freezing weather at the moment.
What would people think about a Rox meeting? Didn’t want to use the name fan meeting! Maybe there’s enough people around interested?
Let me start:
My name is Paul, I live in the sunny Channel Island of Guernsey (well, not today!), I’m 24 (25 in April!), been a fan since 1990. Started liking Roxette because my Mum ordered Look Sharp! from a music club thinking that IMHBL was on it. Chances was the song for me that got the ball rolling!
Hope to hear back from some of you!!!
steven said on March 2, 2005 15:30:
Hi pwbbounce
Steven from Sunny Swansea in South Wales. I’ve been keeping the faith since 1994 and have seen Roxette twice in the UK. Wembley 1994 and Blackpool 2001.
I edit www.roxette.net and think your idea for a mass fan meeting in the UK is a great idea :)
(Any others from Wales?)
ally77 said on March 2, 2005 15:42:
Hello! ally77 (27) from the cold north of Bolton.... there ain’t a lot to shove on roxette.co.uk since ermmm room service so that’s why it’s not been updated...
pwbbounce (moderator) said on March 2, 2005 15:45:
Hey Steve! Seen you website, very good!!
Never managed to see Rox live, everytime they’ve toured I’ve been on holiday somewhere else! Hopefully there might be a little chance to yet.
Good to hear about the mass meeting. I’ll wait and see how many people reply yet....
onlywhenidream said on March 2, 2005 16:18:
oh forgot to mention (as Steven did and now I feel left out... he he) I’ve seen Roxette twice too. Birmingham NEC 1994 and in Gothenburg 2001.
on_a_mission said on March 2, 2005 16:22:
hi, I’m on_a_mission, I’m 20, fan since the C!B!B! ’era’. And I am from Scotland. Oh, I’m also female, but I think you can see that in my profile. oam.
ncurran said on March 2, 2005 17:15:
Hello all. I’m Neil, from Scotland too. Been a fan since 1989. Ive seen Roxette live 8 times (Edinburgh 1991, Glasgow 1992, Sheffield, Edinburgh and Birmingham 1994, Karlstadt, Stockholm and Gothenburg 2001)
A mass meeting sounds fun, though not sure “mass” is the right word when it comes to UK Roxette fans nowadays
ChrisWilliams said on March 2, 2005 17:24:
Hi,
As my username suggests, my name is Chris. I’m 18 years old and live on the English side of the Welsh border.
A Roxette fans meeting sounds like fun, so let’s not let this idea die out :-)

Jackie from just outside of Liverpool, age 32, fan since ’The Look’. Seen concerts in Sheffield Joyride and CBB, Birmingham CBB, Helsinki and Stockholm RS and the blackpool lights switch on. Somehow don’t think a UK meeting would work as ppl down in devon and up as far as scotland
Oldag75 said on March 2, 2005 19:01:
It’s noteworthy (though not unexpected for those of us in the know) that Roxette’s music appeals to two generations within the same family. That’s certainly not the case for a LOT of popular material.

Did go to Blackpool for the swtich on off the lights, but got bored with all the little kids, so came off **bad me** If I’d known Watercolours back then ^^^ we would have made a weekend of it! :)
I think a Roxette meeting would be fun, but where the hell would it be held.....
Rich-UK said on March 2, 2005 21:50:
Hi – I’m Rich and I’m from the UK! OK, I’ll tell you something you couldn’t guess...
I started to listen to Roxette in 1989 but got really hooked with Spending My Time in 1991. The sucker punch was Crash! Boom! Bang! (the best song and album of all time:-) in 1994. I have seen them in Edinburgh (1994), London (1999) and Munich + Stuttgart + Brussels (2001). I’ve also met Marie in Stockholm, Per in Halmstad & Gyllene Tider in Gothenburg.
A UK fan meeting would be great. In fact I’ve thought about a such an event many times before but am now very busy. If nothing has happened when I have more time in due course then I will try to help do something about it. All the best from Rich ;-)
ncurran said on March 2, 2005 22:38:

Hey, thanks for all the cool replies!!! Seems I’m the only one who hasn’t seen them!! I Have excuses though. Was only 14 for the C! B! B! tour, wasn’t aware of the UK stuff in 99, was in USA in 01 and couldn’t get time off work for both Mazarin & GT25.
Will be seeing the next tour though!!
Keep the replies coming!
xarrrr said on March 3, 2005 10:02:
lol dont worry dude.... i’ve never seen roxette at all :P only 2 shows of mazarin and 10 of GT25. i’d love to see roxette tho :D
pwbbounce (moderator) said on March 3, 2005 10:11:
If there is a tour to be seen, be it this year or next, maybe try and plan it and go as a big group! No one I know would be interested in paying to go to Sweden to go to a concert for 2 hours listening to Swedish music!!
Anyone interested in that? What would people more likely be interested in? A Meeting or a concert trip?

Hello from Birmingham
Was quite obsessed in the early 90’s. ’Cry’ was the one that got me. Seen all their uk concerts and just before my first ’wembley’ managed to find the orig ’pearls of passion’ in a lonely record shop in Bansley for only £9.99. How fantastic was that.
Not been on here for a while as things we getting quite nasty, but seem ok now.
I’d be up for a meeting with you lot!!!

ncurran said on May 3, 2005 16:09:
wow, there are more UK fans than i thought.
I might be up for some kind of meeting in the summer time...i am pretty flexible as to where and when, but it would need to be over a weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions?
ally77 said on May 4, 2005 07:54:
I would be keen to meet some other the others I don’t know... again am flexible on when and where... :)
pwbbounce (moderator) said on July 19, 2005 14:29:
@ncurran, ally77, richuk and anyone else from the UK.
Does anyone still fancy a meet up? I’ve got loads of time left to take off work, so I don’t mind travelling anywhere in the UK. Somewhere central I think would be easier.
What sort of things would we do as a group? Really have no idea. Obviously a night out would be great, but not very Roxette-ish.
Any ideas people??? Would be nice for me to put some faces to names. I know there was some pictures of a few people somewhere on here, but do you think I can find them.... NO!!
pwbbounce (moderator) said on July 19, 2005 15:19:
ncurran - from Scotland right?
If you could live your location if you still want to come I’ll have a look on a map when we’ve got a few answers and find a big-ish town/city in the centre of the group somewhere, so everyone will have to travel around the same distance. It’s fair that way
ncurran said on July 19, 2005 17:22:
yeah, i’m scottish, but i can be pretty flexible. as long as i have enough notice so that i am able to book cheap transport and accommodation.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on July 20, 2005 10:47:
That wouldn’t be a problem. Maybe around Sept/Oct possibly?

“the loaded question is ”who is mad enough to co-ordinate it?”
Not me, i’m crap at organising things like this. I’ll just turn up and get drunk as usual
ally77 said on July 21, 2005 18:59:
Why don’t we plan it for 2006 to tie in with the 20th anniversary....
realsuga said on July 22, 2005 09:52:
That sounds well wikked having a 20th anniversary bash! Where tho?? Somewhere we know the Rox have been in the UK? (not PIcadilly Circus tho, teehee......2 bizzy). I would so love to meet someone who loves the Rox as much as I do.....altho I do have my dear friends Hils & Vale:-))
pwbbounce (moderator) said on July 25, 2005 11:03:
Sounds good Ally. It’s a bit short notice for this year to try and do it in the summer months. Next year would be cool. Plus it would give us some time to arrange something cool!!!!!
ncurran said on July 26, 2005 00:16:
Yeah sounds like a good idea for next year....i’ll be skint until then anyway, as i’m going back to uni for a year, so i might not have been able to make it this year depending on my finances at the time
pwbbounce (moderator) said on July 26, 2005 12:35:
I think somewhere in the Midlands might be good. Around Birmingham area. (that why I can get a direct flight to Birmingham from Guernsey!!!)
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 7, 2005 18:22:
Okay, I’ve been having a look round on the internet for venues which would do something like this. Can’t seem to find anything suitable. With not knowing numbers etc, it doesn’t help me.
Trying to think of citys/towns where we can do this. Let me know which ones from here you would like to go to. Plus add any suggestions to the list to.
1 - Birmingham
2 - Leeds
3 - Newcastle
4 - London
5 - Manchester
These are the ones which spring to mind.
Alos preferred time of year. I’m very flexible as to when we do this, apart from February, I free whenever.
What sort of things would people like to do?
I know it seems like it’s a bit in advance, but it’s gonna take quite a bit of organising, so the earlier we start the better!!
Cheers guys!
Birmingham or London would be my choice. Don’t mind what we’d do, but a night “on the town” sounds cool.......
ncurran said on August 7, 2005 22:20:
Oh ive never been to Birmingham before (apart from a flying visit to the CBB tour in 1994)...is it not a bit of a dump there?
ally77 said on August 8, 2005 09:08:
How about holding a kind of Rox party in some kind of labour club which we could hire or something! We could put on a buffet, lots of booze at a bar etc....
ncurran said on August 8, 2005 09:57:
Nice idea ally, but i dont think there would be enough of us to hire anywhere.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 8, 2005 11:36:
Birmingham was a dump, but it’s been updated, I was there in March, and it’s quite cool. Some places are a bit crap, but if you stick to one nice area then it’s fine!!
The idea of hiring a place is very good, but like Neil said is there enough of us for that.
Unless we hire a caravan........ LOL
Looking forward to what ever we do though!
felicity-brown said on August 8, 2005 13:16:
Wow! Forgot about this. Well, I’m in London and open to any suggestions ...would be cool to meet more freaks! :P
ally77 said on August 8, 2005 14:12:
I’d like to meet up in London, as it’s been a long time since I was there.... and I am thinking it is pretty accessible for everyone..... I am sure the Londoners (looks at Fliss) would be happy to show us round!
We could go on the London Eye, and sing songs till the men in white jackets come for us! ;)
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 8, 2005 14:21:
How funny does that sound Ally!! Imagine all of us sings Crush On You on the London Eye! I think they WOULD cart us away!
Do we have a possible location then? London sounds good to me!
ncurran said on August 8, 2005 14:24:
I think London would be quite good. Although its not exactly central, at least it has good transport links from just about everywhere in the UK. And even though i’m away up in scotland, as long as we organise the actual dates well in advance i should be able to get really cheap flights. We should also try and organise it so that everyone is staying in the same hotel i think.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 8, 2005 14:27:
Was just thinking that about staying in the same hotel. Would be a lot of fun.
What time of year do we think best. Again I’m flexible apart from February.
plectrum said on August 8, 2005 14:29:
hi all you roxetters,my name is mark & i live in sheffield,i first got into roxette during the look sharp era,i’ve seen roxette twice at sheffield arena(1992 & 1994).hey this gathering of fans sounds like a perfect idea
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 8, 2005 14:37:
Hey Mark, nice to welcome new people.
Just checked on Flybe’s website (they’re the only people I can fly to Gatwick with!) and I can only book up until March next year. Is this too early for people next year? It’s fine with me.
felicity-brown said on August 8, 2005 18:42:
haha London sounds good to me *lazy beyatch* ;) A hotel sounds fun n’all, although home is cheaper ...even if I do live in North London - easy access on my Northern Line - goes through all the good places - Camden Town, Euston, Tottenham Court Road, Leicester Square... wherever (yes, even outside of London), whenever is good for me ...I’m up for it - just say when :)
ally77 said on August 8, 2005 19:31:
Oh there has to be a pub! I just have to see Vix drunk! ;)
So here is a date Saturday 22nd April 2006, the weekend after Easter, it’s spring so with a bit of luck the weather might be okay....
I think London is the ideal venue, as I think even me and Jackie (if she’s coming) can get cheap flights down to London!
Now a club or a pub in the evening or something sounds good, but I suggest we get some t-shirts made up in advance, just so we all look the same and make a complete prat of ourselves in the process! Something like
“UK Roxette Fans on Tour and Drunk”
or
“20 Years of Roxette Music”
If we can find somewhere for the event from say the afternoon onwards.... now most hotels have a conference room avai to book which could be ideal for an afternoon get togeather. We could hold some kind of meet and greet getting to know everyone, perhaps then head out for a meal somewhere and then onto a pub or a club for the rest of the evening!
Anyone else got any ideas?
I think the sooner we plan a date and get names of people who want to join us, the easier the rest of the planning will be!
ally77 said on August 8, 2005 19:36:
Now I just priced up a hotel in Edgware, London and the cost for two nights from the Saturday till Monday lunch time is currently £119!
That’s not bad for two nights in London!
steven said on August 8, 2005 19:47:
I think London is a bit unfair for fans living in the north of England and also Scotland.
It makes far greater sense to use a more central location such as Birmingham or similar.
Roxette|Net stands ready to assist if you need to promote palns/details etc.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 8, 2005 20:00:
Sounds really cool Ally77. Not sure about the t-shirts, but I could be persuded! At least if one of us gets lost, we’ll be able to point the others out easy enough!!!
Also not bad for the hotel price. If I booked my flights to London now it’s only £60 return.
ally77 said on August 8, 2005 20:08:
@ Steven, I am in the North West of the UK but have no worries about travelling.... easy to say Birmingham etc but no offence it’s hardly the highlight of the UK! and then there is the people in the far South West that might not want to travel to far....
I think ideally it should be planned in a town or city where perhaps someone lives, makes it easier to organise the whole thing!
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 8, 2005 20:11:
Plus it’s almost £200 for a flight between Guernsey and Birmingham!!
@all77 - I don’t mind trying to organise the event, if we could settle on date/city/plan of action etc!!
ally77 said on August 8, 2005 20:13:
I can’t see this happening.... because no matter what someone suggests there’ll always be someone got a problem with it....
Ideally to pull this off you need someone to stand forward and plan and organise it from start to finish, that’s the only way it would be successful....
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 8, 2005 20:15:
let me get my organising head on *clonk* (that was the head going on, by the way)
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 8, 2005 20:26:
Okay,
Saturday 22nd April & Sunday 23rd April. The Elysee Hotel near Hyde Park will do a double/twin room for the 2 nights for £110. It’s a 3 star hotel, which I believe does offer function rooms. Plus it’s not too far to a number of bars/clubs etc.
What does everyone think about this? I’m sure they would offer discounts if we all booked into this hotel. It’s looks quite nice on their website - www.elyseehotel-london.co.uk
felicity-brown said on August 8, 2005 21:50:
@ Ally77: Edgware?! LOL That’s my town ...I definitely wouldn’t pay to stay there ;) Nah, Edgware is okay - great access into central, but wouldn’t staying central be more fun, if London is going to be the venue?
felicity-brown said on August 8, 2005 21:52:
Oops! And there’s me, throwing another spanner in the works ;) I’m fine with anything. First, we all have to agree on a town/city, then we can take it further. Please, no arguing, guys :)
ncurran said on August 8, 2005 22:29:
Sorry to be a pain, but the 22/23rd of April might be difficult for me. I am at Uni for a year so cant really be that flexible..looking at the timetable i have an assessment around that time, and i also wouldnt be able to take the monday off.
I get 2 weeks holiday in April, so if possible could we change it to either 1st/2nd April or 8th/9th?
Otherwise i still might be able to come (depending on when exactly the assessments are), but i could only stay for one night.
I still think London is the best option, because no matter where you are in the UK it is pretty easy to get to. I will be living all the way up in aberdeen, but it will still be easier for me to get a cheap flight to London than to other cities like Birmingham and Manchester.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on August 9, 2005 06:41:
I think it will have to be London. Thats the one which has had the most interest so far.
As for the weekend, it doesn’t matter with me. The 1st and 2nd is fine with me to. Very flexible.
Shall we set a date now??
Once the date and city is planned we can look for accommodation etc.
ally77 said on August 9, 2005 07:19:
1st and 2nd of April sound all okay with me! :) I just have to avoid May as I am planning a holiday around that time! :)

Thanks!
ncurran said on August 9, 2005 09:10:

2. London

you give me the news and gossip i don’t mind writting it, design ideas can come from anyone who wants to goin in?
