Brady Bunch :( ...

I recently made a post on this board (which was understandably moved to the “TDR discussions” board instead). I used a swear word (the F word) in this post and I even put a star in place of the “u” in that swear word to be considerate to tender ears. I wasn’t even being nasty to anyone - I just said it as part of a joke, but Judith has edited my post and taken out the word(s) and in so doing has changed the meaning/joke/impact of what I was saying.
We are all adults here people, and even any 11 year olds posting here (unlikely but possible) probably know more swear words than we do. While I understand the need for moderators to take out really bad excessive offending language, I think you guys are going too far when you remove every little offending word you happen to see - without even looking at the context of the message.
I don’t think it’s right that moderators just take it upon themselves to be the Brady Bunch moral police of TDR. We are not living in North Korea so lets please keep the freedom of speech. Don’t forget that even Per himself in the past has used the F-word jokingly in public Internet chats with fans!
PS: Please leave this message in the “Roxette Discussions” forum (for a few days at least) so that people can read it - as not many people read the “TDR Discussions” Board. And for God’s sake, don’t edit this message! Have at least SOME respect for people’s opinions.

I understand the need to edit swearing if it is really bad or excessive, or if someone is using it to hurt/insult someone else. But if someone is using it in a joking & reasonable context, it should not be deleted. Young people are not stupid & the occasional F-word here and there is not going to corrupt their poor little souls - as they have heard these words far more in movies & from their friends. I don’t buy the fact that kids need to be ’protected’ from foul language - as this is impossible. If moderators want to edit out bad language, then they should leave in the first & the last few letters of the word, and fill in the rest of the letters in the word with extra characters, like this: f&*k, as#$le, etc. That way us “grown ups’” can get the joke and the kiddies can be left scratching their heads as to just what the hell the words mean ;) (but that won’t happen, because like I said, kids today are not stupid). Also, when some of the more well known & “distinguished” long time TDR members use swear words occasionally with a star in one letter, they don’t get their swear words deleted - so why does it happen to me?

Hi Jason! I guess you’re inviting comments on this matter, seeing as you’re posting your complaint here? Hmmm, there’s not much sympathy here, I’m afraid. I see it like this. TDR is a forum created and funded by an individual who has decided to make some house rules. After a subscriber presses ’submit’, the 0s and 1s of the post get stored on webspace paid for by the owner so, under the house rules, they may be changed or removed, if deemed inappropriate. Feedback is accepted through the on-line submission form here at TDR, but I doubt that a complaint about a moderator removing swear words from a post would lead to changes in the rules, to be honest. There are other Roxette forums available, so I would have thought that the answer for someone who doesn’t like TDR’s house rules is simply not to press ’submit’. Sorry if this sounds harsh... just my opinion! All the best, Rich ;-)

it´s a well-known fact that TDR moderators only archives topics that are posted by users that do not kiss their arses.
Kiss their arse and you don´t need to worry your thread being deleted! :)
I´m not going to tell any names...

Well LaMan, let’s keep the discussion on a decent level!
I think the owner of this site is doing a real favour to all the roxette fans and without TDR I’m sure the roxette fan-situation would look completely different nowadays.
Therefore we should reward these people (including the moderators) with respect to tell the least.
On the other hand I do agree that sometimes the moderators might be a bit strict.
This should be seen, not as a complaint, but as constructive criticism.
Have a nice weekend,
Rox

The difference between a butt kiss and a brown nose:
Depth perception.
I wouldn’t say that I’m “friends” with the Mods here at all.
LEO and I have had more meaningful, life altering discussions in the short time I’ve known him than I can count. I can only reach 20 and that’s with shoes AND socks off. I’ve worked with him on a project in the past and have always found him to be very... awe inspiring. You think this is brown nosing... got some news for you: I’ve ALWAYS thought of LEO like this. He’s talked TO me, rather than DOWN AT me. That’s how he’s inspired my loyalty to him.
Every now and again, Jude and I go the rounds about something on the boards... EVERYONE here has seen us disagree! However, I’ve sent an IM to her once in a while for clarification purposes... but I don’t whip out the tube of lip balm every time I talk to her.
I honestly don’t remember if Ten and I have ever disagreed about anything... I guess he just hasn’t pissed on my spark plug yet. Give it time Ten... provided my job doesn’t take any more “years” off my life... I’ll be 900 before I die ;o)
Most of my topics have stayed open because... well... hell. I dunno.
Oh... and if you HAVE to use the mighty “F Bomb” in a joke.... DON’T TELL IT HERE. Tell it to your friends and insult them for a while. I have YET to find a joke that contains cuss words in it that I haven’t been able to edit for content. I live in Utah.... ’nuff said.

LET THE REBELLION CONTINUE!!! ;-)
And I totally agree with that whole comment LaMan made about kissing the moderator’s asses and you won’t get your topic archived or even edited. Look at the shite coyboyusa and zeeshan get away with!!

It’s difficult to comment on this as we are unable to witness the original post and context, but as Lars-Erik has rightly said (many times) here in the past - The issue of free speech does not apply here.
TDR is a service, which has an established and public set of rules, which users must adere to in order to participate.
If you break those rules (and I’m not suggesting that this is case) then the owners of the service reserve the right to either edit or delete such entries.
Whilst I don’t have a message board on my website, I do have a live chat facility (cheesy plug there). I don’t have a published set of rules, although I may need to in the future, but I would certainly take measures to prevent exposing the young to inappropriate content (and again, I’m not suggesting this was the case with you).
