What do you think?
If to take the original PoP I choose Room Service.
But if consider the re-issue with bonus tracks then I have no answer which album to choose...

Well, RS is not the best album of Roxette, but it’s OK and it contains great songs, for example one of my faves “The Centre of the Heart”.
Pearls of Passion is not a bad album but it’s weaker even than RS, in my opinion, and instrumentally is not so good.
I prefer “Room Service” :)

I prefer “Pearls of Passion”. Believe it or not, I play the first album very often, it’s among my favourite albums. I play “RS” just sometimes (I would say rarely).

Pearls of Passion is better for what it is... though I think they’re fairly evenly matched musically.

Pearls of Passion, Roomservice is the Rox-album I least listen to.

I think the two albums are too different to be compared. My favourites from POP Surrender and Voices are so different from for example TCOTH or that very MMHGP that I can‘t decide which of the albums is better.

When I first heard ROOM I actually felt that their style had gone back a little to the days of POP. Especially the tone in Marie’s voice. She had that softer sound and not as ’belted’ as it was thru HAND & CRASH! But enuff bullshit, ROOM wins hands down for me! JEFFERSON & FOOL are two of my all time faves. The only thing I didn’t like much on ROOM are the lyrics to the songs. They sound a little rushed to me? Anyone else think so?

“Pearls Of Passion” is the album that I listen very often, even more than RS.

Without a doubt Room Service. I know a lot of people here don’t like it for not being lyrically/musically strong, something I feel is a little unjustified. Yeah, it’s no Joyride or Crash, but there are some damn fine songs on there.

Although I’m not very fond of Room Service I do think it’s a lot better than PoP. PoP was already outdated just a few years after release. Not very original either. Absolutely the weakest album.

PoP is in my opinion the very best Roxette album EVER :D

I think Room Service, but on the other hand (no, not HAND), Pearls ofd Passion has Surrender on it, which is in my opinion the nr. 1 or 2 Rox-song (competing with Dangerous for the nr. 1 spot).

PoP is not a masterpiece (musically nor lyrically), but it’s a very fresh, poppy and happy record anyway. It makes me feel good, is very listenable. RS is too overproduced, it lacks of freshness. Too syntetic, I would say.

Pearls of Passion is a masterpiece (in every way). Pearls of Passion is art. Pearls of Passion is better.
(wow, I feel better now)

colinvdbel,
Thanks for posting. I’m glad that there is somebody else out there who understands what’s great about this album. For me, it’s the pure 80s sound and, of course, the amazing vocals. Furthermore, every single track is superb. It’s truly a priceless album.

I would Choose Room Service!
Edited: in both cases.
