new feature suggestion
on_a_mission said on February 22, 2005 23:05:
dear Mods,
was wondering about this idea, although it would mean extra effort on the mods part:
Would it be possible to have a feature that told you the number of registered users and guests online at any one time?
I have seen this on other websites and its a kinda novel idea, as you can guage whether or not your post will be replied to. It might be cool to see the usernames of online registered users too,
My apoligies if this has already been suggested, I love the site as it is anyways, oam.

Visa is at the moment designing and programming the new version, so who knows what will happen. :)
Edit: Typo
Jud (moderator) said on February 23, 2005 15:08:
you might want to suggest more stuff.. - who knows, you might want to have some features we/he don’t/doesn’t think about and now that Visa is at it, it would be easy to implement :)
on_a_mission said on February 23, 2005 19:49:
good to know Tev, and thanks visa, too. I wasn’t aware we needed a new version though! I love it just the way it is!
Best regards all mods, oam,

I’m looking forward to the new version! As suggested by Judith, here are a couple of ideas:
- I’d like to have a more powerful search feature. And it’d be *very* useful if it included the Smaltalk section (i.e., if we could search Smaltalk threads based on date/user/keywords). TDR is *plenty* of very useful information that is *very* hard to find.
- I’d like to have an easy way of quoting previous comments when replying, in whole or in part.
- I’d like to see the conversation while I’m replying. Many times I had to select the text, copy it, paste it in Notepad, so when I’m at the ’Reply to discussion’ form, I can look in the Notepad window for any text / user ID I might need.
Other than that, TDR rocks! I think it’s here in ’Smaltalk’ where there is more room for improvements.
Thanks Visa for your great effort! And btw, I learned the other day at Steven’s Roxette.NET page that your birthday was on Feb 14th... like mine! And that Judith’s was on the 20th.
Happy Birthday to both of you! (better later than never...)
ally77 said on February 23, 2005 22:02:
Can we have some of these ;) :) :S :O :( that would be great and also some more space to put our profile information!
Jud (moderator) said on February 24, 2005 06:42:
thanks!! :)
and these features.. might be possible, but I leave it for Visa to answer ;) (or he might want to surprise you :P)
purplemedusa said on February 24, 2005 15:50:

would be great to if when you click on the topics you want to read that they open in a new page :-)
Rich-UK said on February 26, 2005 09:31:
@ Scoll - this happens (for me at least) if you press the shift key whilst clicking on the new topic. All the best, Rich ;-)
RoxHard said on February 28, 2005 22:15:
I’d also like the pop-up feature to happen when you click on a link that’s posted in a post: example http://www.google.co.uk it just takes over the original page... (which is annoying if you accidentally close the page).
Jud (moderator) said on March 1, 2005 08:55:
the last time I asked Visa about having the href target = blank or self, he said that the later is according to the W3 rules and showed me a link why it is better, after all, as Rich said, you can always make the link open in a new window with the keyboard (or depending on what browser you use, if you right click on the link, you should have an option that says “open link in a new window”)
ally77 said on March 1, 2005 09:38:
Judith that is the way I do it normally, but now I found the new way! although I think you get use to using your mouse to open a new window....
ally77 said on March 2, 2005 08:42:
You know when I think about it, I am not sure I would like TDR any other way... I love the layout although still think a little more space in the profile would be nice....
I think TDR works like it is! :)
Cerchio said on March 11, 2005 03:17:
If anything must be done to the site (which it doesn’t) I’d like to share some things too:
+ Some more information in the profile would be nice.
+ Maybe a statistic at the top of the page to show how many people are online.
+ Don’t allow people to use “Signatures”. They take up too much space, and are useless anyway.
TDR is fine as it is, to be honest. :)
Cerchio.
Jud (moderator) said on March 11, 2005 07:27:
signatures aren’t possible here... right now, unless you type them manually all the time :)
LaMan said on March 11, 2005 14:40:
please no no avatars / signatures!!! Keep even TDR without them pls! They are not only annoying and useless but also they make things slowier.
KEEP TDR AVATAR FREE!
purplemedusa said on March 11, 2005 15:00:
Posting of images would b gr8 tho!! And I’m all for avatar/signatures!!
Cerchio said on March 14, 2005 01:36:
sommartiderhejhej: “what is an AVATAR?”.
It’s a little picture that goes underneath your username.
Here are some funny ones: :)

harriej said on May 25, 2005 22:39:
please no Avatars/signatures/emoticons etc.
Suggestion:
Possibility (for moderators) to merge threads which are about the same subject.
Usually 1 of them is then being archived, with a link to the other thread.
But if these threads can be combined, all is much clearer.
Rich-UK said on May 25, 2005 22:57:
That’s a good suggestion Harrie. It would certainly be more welcoming to newbies who open another thread without realising that it’s not allowed.
Santi said on May 26, 2005 16:57:
Wouldn’t be bad either a FAQ or an index to Smalltalk threads... and when you’re signing up that during the process it was said that it’s better to read the FAQ first not to start 1 thousand times the thread “Who thinks Per is good-looking?”
(I’m thinking which could be the answer to that in a FAQ, lol :DD)
If the responsible people for this site has to much work as for that, some of the old members (like myself...) could help out a bit. I guess we’re so kind, I’m at least that kind.
Jud (moderator) said on May 26, 2005 17:16:
as posted in this forum before (cannot find the topic now :S), we are working on some kind of rules or guidelines for the forum/website. Might be up when the new site is up..
Santi said on May 26, 2005 19:51:
I hope you don’t erase the whole archive... there are some really funny discussions to browse among.
roxeteer (moderator) said on May 27, 2005 06:59:
Since it’s only me who’s working on the new site (evaluating different systems, designing the layout, customizing the system when I’ve found a good one, transferring this site’s data to the new one, etc.), it’s really difficult to give any exact dates.
However, I’m trying to get it done this year.
ally77 said on May 27, 2005 18:17:
I gotta admit whatever other forums I use I always say TDR is the best, personally I think it’s the basic layout of it, makes it easy to navigate around.... and of course the pages load faster!
MiracleMan said on June 7, 2005 23:57:
Haha! I almost started ANOTHER thread suggesting a FAQ section after seeing yet another thread about transltions. It seemed to me there could be a links/site listing there.
Good thing I checked here first, cuz Santi already recommended it about a week ago.
I agree that if you asked veterans could submit a list of FAQs and answers that could be included.
Just let us know (an announcement on the front page?), surely we aren’t the only ones who’d participate.
on_a_mission said on June 15, 2005 23:51:
@roxeteer. This forum is a design classic. As you say it looks really tidy and is easy to operate. :-) Bra Jobbet!
harriej said on July 10, 2005 20:26:
Apart from merging subjects (see my comment in this thread on 5/26/2005 00:39 ), it is maybe also handy to be possible to split up threads, if the discussion is going away from the original subject of the thread.
harriej said on August 22, 2005 17:53:
Good idea, although I think it is possible for everybody to send an e-mail to pietro with the request to put the rare video/audio-files on Roxbytes (as long as it isn’t an official available video/adio).
harriej said on August 23, 2005 21:12:
No need for a spell check, everybody knows what’s written in the previous posts, right?? :)
Santi said on August 26, 2005 15:50:
Besides some users (I’m thinking of coyboyusa) would stop having such a distinctive online “personality” if you remove their typos... :P
Do you imagine a post of him with no mistakes? Seriously... :)
ally77 said on October 14, 2005 14:54:
@ Santi... as long as it don’t end up like the SOAP forum, don’t get me wrong I like it, but I prefer the TDR layout... it’s more kind of got it’s own style... :)
Sparvogamarie said on March 20, 2006 08:49:
LOL, I just came here to suggest a feature that tells us who is online and I see someone already has :) Is it possible to show who is here? I have my own non-rox forum, and at the bottom it says who is online so you know if somebody interesting is on!
ally77 said on March 21, 2006 20:17:
We can’t do that here yet, maybe the new software will allow us to!
Sparvogamarie said on March 23, 2006 08:26:
Yeah I imagine if you program a board yourself it’s hard to implement stuff like that. Ready made boards like Proboards and Hyperboards can do it.
eBay said on March 29, 2006 13:05:
Now that would be a great idea, to have the new site ready for the new Rox release. :-)
tevensso (moderator) said on March 30, 2006 18:27:
That is of course the plan, if Visa gets enough time to do the conversions. :)
Santi said on October 26, 2006 14:21:
What about a “Report to moderator” button?
It would be handy for letting them know double topics or flaming, without them to have to check every single thread on the site.
on_a_mission said on February 22, 2005 23:07:
sorry, just realised lods of people have already suggested this!
