army of lovers

hehe... was just listening to their greatest hits cd today. used to love them completely when i was young...they’re just totally absurd! ;)
however, they did have nice set of great tunes...think they split up (again) a while back after their le grand-docu soap collection.
anyway, i was just wondering does anybody here like them?
what are your favourite songs?
frisso said on February 20, 2005 17:08:
they suck. they said roxette where stupid and that they couldn’t sing. (well how much hits did they have 2)
they said that at a programme called countdown in holland.
Superbullie said on February 20, 2005 18:17:
I like their two hits “israelism” and “crucified”.
They had their 15 minutes in the bussiness and I dont care about what they might have been saying about Roxette. It’s not important anymore
Euro4Ever said on February 20, 2005 21:08:
Great Pop, the way Great Pop should be. Catchy, Melodic, Flashy.... and very interesting lyrics I must say, very interesting, if you listen of course...
As far as best songs, they had many, and I would recommend all their albums.
But I will single out:
“When the Nihgt is Cold” - released in late 80’s, never made it on an album, but was on a Greatest hits compilations. Magnificent song, Superb production :)
“Obsession” - Dark and gloomy but catchy. Awesome, one of my faves
“Judgement Day”
“Someone Somewhere”
“Life is Fantastic”
“Lit de Parade”
There are many more of course, about 4 albums more Heh Heh :)

I never really paid attention to them when they were successful in whole Europe in the 90ies but I saw them live at the Europride erh.. must have been 2001 and I must say I was surprised, they didn’t play long, it either was a medley or 2 songs, but it was actually quite THE performance, everybody dancing - following their moves - and singing... they seemed to be good performers and enterteiners :)

@ frisso
So based on the fact that AOL don’t like Roxette AOL sucks? Is that it?
Ah well, it’s ok...I myself might have changed my opinion about Scooter a little MORE negative when I learned the singer had dissed Roxette.
Anyway, back to the topic:
@ euro
Which compilation album was “When the night is cold” on? Cos I have Les Greatest Hits and Le Grand-Docu Soap and it isn’t on either...Is is Master Series that you’re talking about?
And yes, their lyrics are really something you need to listen carefully til you get the point. They have some brilliant allegories...If their CD’s came out just now I am pretty sure they’d have the “Parental Advisory” stickers on them...
My personal favourite AOL songs as for now are
- Supernatural
- Lit de Parade
- Let the sunshine in (such a great cover!)
LaMan said on February 21, 2005 13:18:
I´ve got “14 Klassiker” (2003) without When The Night Is Cold but with 2001 singles Let The Sunshine In and Hands Up.
“Master Series” has When The Night Is Cold.
Their first album is... lame. Except the singles.

Army of lovers is(was) a idiot band. With abnormal members and shit music.
I’m sorry that they are also swedish than Roxette.....
This is my opinion!
miulatz said on March 5, 2005 20:10:
I really really hated that one guy (Jean-Pierre Barda, if now remember his name correctly..) and I didn’t like their music either.
animalkingdom said on March 5, 2005 20:50:
Oops...They might have seem idiotic to some but they have incredibly witty lyrics, catchy melodies and the guts to be a different kind of pop band.
Jean-Pierre is great! It’s either him who is my favourite or Dominika (her voice is completely out of this world :-)
rox-kuryliw said on March 5, 2005 22:44:
I have never heard of this group :-S did the chart on the UK cos i dont remember ?
animalkingdom said on March 5, 2005 23:11:
The re-issue of Crucified made #31 in the UK.
Don’t know about Obsession, the other one of their bigger singles...
Euro4Ever said on March 6, 2005 04:29:
Who cares about UK and US charts.
Most English-language music from continental Europe, countires like Germany, Italy, France, Sweden never even gets released, let alone make the charts, in UK or US
by the way army of lovers charted and were very popular in Germany.... and immensely popular in Russia
2 Kriszta from Hungary ... that’s pretty strong language you’re using without any concrete facts. Well I’ll tell you what... the Next time a Hungarian band makes some meaningful songs in English with some International success you let us know LOL
animalkingdom said on March 9, 2005 17:16:
Haha...
Was reading the credits to “Supernatural” and found out that Vickie “backing up Roxette” Benckert sang in the choir...:)

@Euro4ever: roflol, Army of lovers & meaningful lyrics...you cheered me up!
*sings*
I could wait night and day
Sigh your name when I pray
In my heart night and day
’til you come my way
I could wait night and day
Be the sky blue or grey
In my heart night and day
For your love to stay
Euro4Ever said on March 10, 2005 02:10:
“Interesting” is the word
Anyway, So what’s wrong with them?
Great lyrics in “obsession” and one hell of a moody tune. They carry a lot in their simplicity

Ah, it’s been Ages since i’ve last seen this video..... i lived in Russia back than in 91.... and it’s still as great and weird, mystical and controversial as it was back than

I love this band (if you can call them a band) even more than Rxette. Everything about them is soooooooo gay and glamorous. When la Camilla left Iwas heartbroken but when I realised she was replaced with such a godess, I didn’t mind at all. It’s all the bickering and bitchiness between them that makes them special and of course their fantastic music.
Dominica was in a new band called Nouveau Riche at the start of the year but she left a month later. ’Oh Lord’ was the song and was a bit Alcarzarish.
Visit www.lacamilla.com to find out more on them. You’ll love them when you get to know them. you find a nice pic of me in my profile.

AOL were great!
Crucified was a breakthrough video for its time.
Even King Midas that didnt make it big was brilliant pop
Sascha said on August 13, 2006 17:46:
They were quite entertaining for a while. Absolute trash-fashion, but Crucified and Obsession are really catchy tunes!
ThePopHits said on August 14, 2006 18:35:
their DVD with all videos is out... love them.
If you like AOL check out BWO (Bodies Without Organs) too.
Invisible_man said on August 14, 2006 21:54:
Honestly I was not too impressed by BWO
Maybe Bard should have done the vocals, instead of that guy. Somehow it just isn’t as good as AOL.
Invisible_man said on August 14, 2006 21:57:
Has anyone seem the 2 Cross dressing Norwegians on Eurovision..... reminded me a bit of AOL.
only in Europe could that happen.... I just Love it! It’s so FAB, makes me get up and dance!

i love the lyrics.
rox-kuryliw said on August 14, 2006 22:52:
after hearing and looking them up on you tube. i can say the videos are very arty and interesting, but vocally does nothing for me at all. voices are bland. Without sounding shallow the men are mingers lol.
LaMan said on February 19, 2005 22:40:
I love them as well Alcazar, Vacuum and Alexander´s new group Bodies Without Organs.
AOL “Crusified” video was something totally new...
They are hilarious. I miss those years.
