I would like to send some very strong messages and notes of Peace, Love, Harmony and Humanity to all of the people around the globe. Regardless fo what color you are, which religion you follow and where you live, I wish you all a VERY HAPPY EID and I hope that one day, this world will somehow unite into ONE force to help each other and solve all the problems we have been facing since the beginning.
EID MUBARAK! HAPPY EID!

That’s a fantastic news. I’d like to meet you if I stay in Karachi till January. I might be moving abroad for a while but I sure do hope to see you some day.
Why didn’t you go for Agha Khan or better Dow Medical College? I think DOW is “the” best. I so badly wanted to join it but anyway... hows Eid going so far?

Oh and one more thing Wasif... I suggest you move to Karachi a bit earlier than January. At least a month before your classes started. The life in Karachi is absolutely crazy and wild and NOTHING... I repeat NOTHING about it is remotely close to Islamabad.
I guess you have visited Karachi a couple of times but living a bachelor’s life and actually “moving” for a while can be a bit difficult because of the huge difference between life styles of both the cities.
If you can manage to come around December, do remember to tell me in advance. I might visit Islamabad this month. I am going to visit Mardan to attend my brother’s wedding (crazy dude getting married with a Pathan girl! OMG!!!!!) (anyway...) khair... tu shayad... shayad... I’ll visit Islamabad so we might meet up there.

@lawyer : In Indonesia, the muslim people always said Minal Aidin Walfaidzin (Isn’t that arabic?) when they celebrate Eid.
I think it means that they want to apologize to everyone in that day for all the mistakes they made. And the Eid day is the perfect day to do that because it’s a muslim holy’s day, where they came to be as holy as the day itself..
I hope I explain that right, because I wasn’t muslim. So, I said those words to apologize if I ever hurt ppl in this forum. well, that’s how Indonesian muslim do.
I wish my fellow Hotblooder and De Ja Vu were here! they can explain that better than me :)
Oh, also in the place I live, a week after Eid, they celebrate a day called “Ketupat Day”.
Ketupat is a special food (made by rice) that muslim always made on Eid day. And, I visited many of my muslim friend during the Eid and Ketupat Day.
Hope my explanation make sense :D

We don’t fast before Easter as far as I know.
I knew you fasted for Ramadan, I really wanted to know what Eid was, so thanks for explaining.
Jud (moderator) said on November 23, 2004 23:30:
yes we (or you, I don’t believe in god) fast before Easter, 40 days, at least if you are a good christian ;)
The period starts on the Ash Wednesday and it’s never the same, depends on when Easter is.
I think this with the 40 days has something to do with the period Jesus fasted in the desert or whatever.
Nowadays christians don’t take it so seriously.. but at least it is rather common to eat fish or avoid eating meat on Fridays.

Majdy, tell me more about Ketupat Day.We have no Ketupat Day here. But this year all the theme goes ’Deepa-Raya’ because both Deepavali and Aidilfitri just 3 days different. We have Ketupat too but Ketupat Day seems more interesting!
Majdy said on November 24, 2004 13:49:
@ lawyer & roxglow : it’s an honour to me to explain that ;)
according to my muslim co worker, Ketupat Day was originally from Java (the other part of Indonesia). I live in Sulawesi (still in Indonesia), and many many years ago, there were some javanese’s muslim people came to the town where I live (Indonesia is the largest muslim country, but I live in a town that has Christian as the majority). They married to some local woman, and years after that they build their own village. From them, we know about Ketupat Day, because they always invite us. And, even some Christian in my town (including my uncle) made Ketupat for his family too in that day.
Sooner, the tradition not only in that village, but also celebrated by ALL muslim people in Sulawesi.

@Judith: Ok, so I didn’t know that, but simply fasting for 40 days does not a good Christian make!
One needs to remember verses like this always:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

I don’t mind how “good” of a christian you are neither am I going to judge that :D
that bout “being a good christian” was more of a joke because for what I could tell when I was kinda surrounded by catholic communities the most important was to SEEM to be a good christian, hiprocresy at it’s 100%
I really think that all what counts is that the person has a truly heart of gold and truly does good, whatever “physical” stuff this person practises (fasting, going to church, praying every day etc) ;)
Jud (moderator) said on November 26, 2004 07:02:
that bout being a good person has nothing to do with religious beliefs actually. I consider myself a good person and know many other nice warm hearted people who don’t believe in god :)
Do what you want but harm no one :D

@ lawyer : Indonesia is a very rich country I guess. But our goverment messed up for many many years. so the corruption was almost tear up the country. so, we still many poor people here, and some part of our country wasn’t too save to travel with.
But I am glad, the place that I live is more peaceful, eventhough we didn’t have BIG mall or even a movie theatre. I hope it will continue that way..
also, Indonesia is a very unique country. Every places has their own language, their own traditional food, their own traditional clothes! so, actually it’s great for tourism actually, but ppl only know Bali.
well, that;s about it ;) your turn to tell me about your country...
