Review of The Change in Norwegian newspaper
Ketil said on October 26, 2004 07:36:
The Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten had a review of the change today. They gave the album 3 pts. out of 6. You can read it here (if you understand Norwegian): http://oslopuls.no/cityguides/nav/review.jhtml?context=music&id=898374

:S they only mention the first two songs, no comment about the others? (my NO isn’t that good.. ;))
animalkingdom said on October 26, 2004 10:09:
Why is it so important for some people just keep on going about the fact that they dislike the new Marie songs so much? I think we already got the point!
tevensso (moderator) said on October 26, 2004 11:14:
Maybe because some other people do the same when it comes to Gessle’s songs?
rox-kuryliw said on October 26, 2004 11:29:
ow dear tevensso, and after all marie has gone through it makes me sad that some people do this for whatever reason.
RoXoR said on October 26, 2004 11:36:
Woah, thats very clever!!!!
If you say something negative about MY Per Gessle i will say something negative about YOUR Marie Fredriksson!
Thats sweet, welcom to the Roxette day-care-centre!=)
Maybe we should open a forum Marie vs Per
;-)
Jud (moderator) said on October 26, 2004 12:14:
well certainly everybody is allowed to love/hate/dislike the album. We live in a free world :P
I think that using Marie’s illness to make everybody “pity” her is LOW, very LOW.
RoXoR said on October 26, 2004 12:15:
Yes of course you are, but i think you should have listend to the album before saying you hate it. Perhapes there are some songs you will like, because i cannot imagine that a Roxette Fan will hate a Marie cd because he likes Per!
Try “Many Times”, thats perhapes a song you will like more, i dont know!
äh, where is the reply i answerd to?
Jud (moderator) said on October 26, 2004 12:17:
guess what! I dislike Mazarin as much as I am sure Thomas dislikes “The change” ;)
tevensso (moderator) said on October 26, 2004 12:18:
I have heard the album. I still don’t like it. A review will be available later tonight at TDR.
m-cvk said on October 26, 2004 12:24:
’Many times’ is written by Micke. So people may like Marie’s songs but not Mickes (or the other way round).
You shouldn’t like the album just because Marie released it after her illness. You have to be honest, and if you don’t like it, you just don’t like it. We all know Marie is strong and I’m sure she can handle the less positive critics. And I agree with Judith.
RoXoR said on October 26, 2004 12:33:
I think everybody can like dislike albums, why not!
The thing with Marie is that everybody is glad to see her back having the strengh to release an album after her bad illness! I think thats something we genaralie or not? If you like or not is an other question
And i think Judith can replace tevensson’s replies by her own ;-)

you knopw there comes a time when some peopel shoudl simply keep their banal opinions to themselves seriously
StillFar said on October 26, 2004 13:00:
tevensso: your way of thinking is kind of strange, on the other side I do not think that we all have to feel pity for Marie and therefore praise the album.
But I’m not sure how constructive some of those comments are.
What did people expect from the album? Marie singing songs like ’The Big L.”, “Joyride” or “Make My Head Go Pop”?
m-cvk said on October 26, 2004 13:08:
just like Per said in an interview: “Marie can never write a song like ’Joyride’” ...
m-cvk said on October 26, 2004 13:17:
Nope, I don’t think it’s a negative point at all. It just makes Roxette (and solo stuff) stronger ’cause they reach more people with different tastes :-)

I still didn’t overcome this one:
“Maybe because some other people do the same when it comes to Gessle’s songs?”
Haha, that’s pretty funny, really! :)
tevensso (moderator) said on October 26, 2004 13:28:
You may like this album all you want, why can’t I dislike it?
tcooh said on October 26, 2004 13:36:
There is review of The Change in Norways biggest newspaper also, VG, at http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=251772 (in norwegian). The album recieved 4 out of 6. They name the songs Mother, All About You and Many Times as the album strongest.
Norway second biggest newspaper Dagbladet also reviews The Change here: http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2004/10/26/412450.html Here she only got 2 out of 6. Remember this is the same newspaper which also gave 2 out of 6 for F5F this summer, the very same person actually.

DO US ALL A FAVOUR EVERYONE!
When commenting about Per’s or Marie’s solo albums I HOPE u are aware that such topic focuses on MUSIC QUALITY and not on ur JUDGEMENT on their personal lives, personal tastes, personal whatever that is....
It’s enogh that newspaper bash them already don’t u think? Why bothering feeding that with more food to the plate?
And as far as I can still remember Per has always stated very clearly they the music they do is the music they like ...not necessarily the music we are forced or oblighed to like too...
It’s OK to dislike unless there are reasonable reasons ... and this goes for everything Per,Marie, Roxette and Gyllene Tyder ..ok? And if it had never been like this ..probably we wouldn’t bother ourselves to like their work or at least feel some connection to it....
PS: Avoid that Marie VS. Per thing ...leave that for the 6-year old kids they are still on time for that ...we’re too old to play that game!

Hey!!!
I don’t care Scandinavian newspapers. Remember they are always criticizing Sweden artists. ABBA suffered a boicott in the 70’s and Roxette was more successful abroad than in their native Sweden, just to give some examples. I don’t know why, but they just look at the weakest points in those records. That’s why I thing Scandinavian reviewers don’t know anything about music, I don’t care about their oppinion.
On the other hand, I really likes Marie’s music. I prefer her style. But I can’t say Per’s solo career is a piece of shit. I have listened to his first 3 albums (“Per Gessle”, “Scener” and “Demos”), but I don’t like them so much. That’s the reason I didn’t buy his following albums. But I can’t say “Mazarin” or “The World according...” are a waste of money, ’cause I haven’t listened to them. And those reviewers HAVEN’T LISTENED to the whole Marie’s album. They must listen to it before to say something about it, negative or possitive.
And yes, maybe Marie wouldn’t be able to write a song as “Joyride”, but she was able to write such beautiful songs as “Watercolors In The Rain”, “Beautiful Things” and “Go To Sleep”. Do you think Roxette would be so successful without Marie singing Per’s songs? I don’t think so!!!
tevensso (moderator) said on October 26, 2004 16:23:
Of course they have heard the full album, and it’s only been reviewed in Norway so far, not Sweden.
on_a_mission said on October 26, 2004 16:29:
ok...we’re all a little crazy today....maybe we should all go find something else to do with our time sometimes....oam.
Faezdel said on October 26, 2004 16:33:
Anyway, I can guess the Swedish reviews will be negative too. As they always do.
But I don’t care about them, as I said before. Marie maybe can’t write a song as “Joyride”. But she can’t write such a horrible and silly song as “Make My Head Go Pop” either...
cskendras said on October 26, 2004 21:37:
i read the TDR-review and i have to admit that i couldn’t be able to review a complete album after such a short period of time. how many times did you listen to the songs? 2, 3 times? sometimes you have to listen to an album several times...and then give your comments. that’s my opinion. u don’t have to share my opinion, anyway. but that’s how a good review is done. but nowadays one has to be fast...too fast for my taste.
rox-kuryliw said on October 26, 2004 21:51:
’cskendras’ i totally understand what your saying, i still bring out the odd cd in my collection and half way through the album i say wow how did i miss this track before.
animalkingdom said on October 26, 2004 22:10:
@ cskendras
Yep, that’s what I were asking too...2-3 times isn’t really enough even to get the basic thing about a recording...Let alone to give detailed point of views about it! Reviewers get paid to sit and focus on the music for a good while!
What have these 3 gotten except for a possible free CD and loss of their free time?
tevensso (moderator) said on October 26, 2004 08:41:
I haven’t even heard the album yet and I agree with what the newspaper says. “This album may be important to the married couple, but it won’t be to anyone else...” They also write “Strong story - indifferent music”.
