the Change album impressions
TomBoner747 said on October 16, 2004 19:54:
Some of you might already have heard some songs of Marie’s new album. (’cos some of you seem to be having good secret contacts in the record industrie / Roxette management )
The promo cd with song excerpts has also been released already.
Does anyone want give any reactions about how it sounds? Any opinions? Reviews?
Anything?
RoXoR said on October 19, 2004 11:31:
Its funny that everytime someone have heard it before the release! You are lucky! But what you said sounds not very enthusiastic! I hope you use to make us courious!

RoXor: too late!
The album has some really good songs on it. Bad moon has been changed a little (not the lyrics though) and ’The change’ reminds me of a Dutch band Within Tempation.
Funny that she sings ’I listen to my heart, but only in that song, you know’ (in All about you)...
Kiwein1 said on October 19, 2004 18:07:
A table in the sun: “I am still cruising the Seventh Wave”...haha, good one, too!!
I love ALL ABOUT YOU and BAD MOON and THE CHANGE so far. Have to hear the other songs more often..again and again..
Kiwein1 said on October 19, 2004 18:14:
Kind of aggressive, very personal text, heavy guitars but not too fast..hard to explain.
ncurran said on October 19, 2004 18:20:
i am blown away by what ive heard so far, this is going to be a fantastic album.....a table in the sun is one of the most beautiful songs ive heard
RoXoR said on October 19, 2004 18:27:
Within Temptation, thats scary! New Age! By the way i like our farewell very much its a strong emotional song! Would like to hear Happy of Intwine by Marie what do you think?
Have you listen to the snippets or the whole songs? What about posting the snippets an roxbytes or can someone send the to me per e-mail?
I really would like to hear them! Of course i will by the album!
BUt i want to wait until they release it here in Holland, because of the charts! But that can take a long time! So would someone be able to send the songs ;-) ? please!?
ncurran said on October 19, 2004 18:32:
The orchestral version of the change is simply beautiful aswell.....and such personal lyrics.
And the other version is such a contrast, almost angry sounding, but with a really interesting sound, and pounding beat.
Bad moon sounds almost the same as the demo, the instruments are almost the same, but the vocals are stronger
Kiwein1 said on October 19, 2004 18:37:
The intro of the album is the best intro I have EVER heard!!
Jud (moderator) said on October 19, 2004 18:38:

And we thought she wouldn’t do good in English.. :( The lyrics are amazing!!
ncurran said on October 19, 2004 18:43:

Jud (moderator) said on October 19, 2004 18:43:

It’s like I thought it was, and I REALLY dislike what I hear in these snippets.
sweepi said on October 20, 2004 09:36:
Just confirm this something for me, these “snippets” in the promo CD, they aren’t full songs, are they, or?
m-cvk said on October 20, 2004 09:45:
Nope, the snippets aren’t full songs. It’s pieces of the songs, with a length of about 2,00 minutes :-)
They give a good impression of the album :-)
tevensso (moderator) said on October 20, 2004 09:54:
“All About You” isn’t all bad. And “Bad Moon” is OK too. But “The Change” is awful.
rox-kuryliw said on October 20, 2004 10:47:
tevensso I cant believe they are that bad !!, your the first person to say so ! am a little shocked ! What did you think they would be like ? why was you expecting them to be that bad ? dont you like marie’s music normally?
off top of my head id say your more of a Gyllene Tider kind of guy ;-) per gessle man.
tevensso (moderator) said on October 20, 2004 10:55:
Ha ha, yes you are oh so right. :) I’ve never really enjoyed Marie’s solo music, especially not after Den ständiga resan. And the funny thing is that most people who like DSR are foreigners...
AntiMario said on October 20, 2004 12:11:
Let me be the second? ;)
I do not enjoy that kind of a misuc too. It’s too boring and I don’t wanna be in the same mood after listening to the songs. “The Change” is a really weird song, like words are completely out of everything. Looks people here judge everything from Marie to be “OMG” whatever it is... This is the music only for her fans I guess. It’s just me I repeat.
flower said on October 20, 2004 12:28:
Why is this music only for her fans? (btw, didn’t hear the snippets, do not really know what I talk about...)
Maybe she’ll dig up a whole new audience with this album, people without the Roxette-lugage, but with another taste of music.
ally77 said on October 20, 2004 12:29:
They are okay from what I hear.... but like Thomas... I am more a GT person!
StillFar said on October 20, 2004 12:50:
some people prefer ice cream and bubble gum...don’t judge tevensso ;)
Jud (moderator) said on October 20, 2004 13:41:
ah well, good people have different tastes. The “I like anything Marie does” may also apply the other way round “I like everything Per does” though.
Anyway, I am happy with and proud of myself that I can (still) tell whether I like or not what my favourite artists (not only Marie of course) do, that’s why I have fave songs or albums ;)
To add to this, I guide myself.. through my feelings. If a song touches me or not, if I cry (not of sadness but because the song is so beautiful! Like when you stand in front of an amazing view/landscape whatever and you simply can’t hold the tears because what you see is so beautiful. So there) or not.. Not my fault if Marie managed (once more) to bring those feelings back in me :P
Btw, if I would have bet that “Per/GT-fans” or GT-ers wouldn’t like Marie’s new stuff I’d be rich (at least I’d be able to buy the promo LOL) now ;)
ncurran said on October 20, 2004 14:06:
i come from the opposite end of the spectrum from ally and tevensso....i am not a big fan of gyllene tider or per solo...i buy the records, but i could take it or leave it really. In fact i think i only listened to Fenn 5 Fel once, and Mazarin 2 or 3 times....Maries voice and music has always touched me more....and some of my favourite roxette songs were also written by her. I have been blown away by what i have heard of this album so far....i think its going to be incredible.
rox-kuryliw said on October 20, 2004 23:30:
I totally agree with you ’ncurran’ again im afraid , so i dont need to wright all that lol.
Faezdel said on October 21, 2004 03:24:
I won’t download any snippet!!!
I have received “2nd Chance” single today, but I have played it just 3 or 4 times. The reason is I’ve played the songs on it a lot of times, before receive it... There’s no surprise!
That’s why I won’t dowload the snippets of the rest of the songs. I want to receive my album and let it impress me... If I listen to the snippets before, all the magic is gone!
It’s hard to resist the temptation, but I will wait!
Do you agree???
Hotblooded said on October 21, 2004 04:42:
@faezadel: Yeah I totally agree! I am gonna wait until I get the album, there is nothing like being totally surprised when you sit down to listen to a new album I hate hearing parts of it already it spoils the surprise!
BTW I LOVE Marie’s music it is so much more personal then GT and Roxette.
ncurran said on October 21, 2004 05:00:
those of you waiting are doing the right thing....i know i will regret it when i get the CD, nothing beats the feeling of getting a new CD, reading the booklet and listening to the whole thing for the first time.
however, unfortunately the the temptation was just too much for me, i couldnt resist my dose of marie
and coyboy check youre email

I am only listening to BAD MOON, I cannot wait to hear the full version of that! :)
girl7twenty7 said on October 21, 2004 18:31:
Note: I’m not a huge Marie fan, happy Gessle songs are always best for me. As Judith said it’s that my feeling are telling. But they tell me too that I really love what I heard from snippets :) To be honest, new songs turned out to be better that I’d imagined after hearing 2:nd chance
All about you: liked it from the first seconds. Nice and sweet.
April Snow: i liked it by my surprise although it’s jazzy. Beautiful in its simplicity.
A table in the sun: love the way she sings!
Bad moon: slightly differs from the cool demo, vocals on verses are kept, refrain was re-recorded. Sometimes our dreams come true :)
The change: like this one most, getting goose-bumps every time I listen to it. Here I have no words.
Instrumental version is far away from original.

I LOVED these snippets!! They make me want to hear this album right now! :P
“The change” seems to be a fantastic song... very agressive and touching... Great!
I liked “All about you” so much too! And about “Bad moon”... an amazing song became even more amazing!!
But I have to agree the most of you... “A table in the sun” is LOVELY!! What a vocal!! Beautiful song!!
This will be a wonderful album... so emotional!
PS: Thanks to the great friendly fans here that put this snippets avaliable!
coyboyusa said on October 22, 2004 08:03:
ok so I caved in and I have to say I am a bit pissed. Is it just me or have they canged it from a jazz album to a soft rock album for commercial appeal. Listen tot he orchestral version of the change and then the titel version, the guitars are so unnecessary, they whole production. I wish it were simply a jazz album :PS.... bad mood and table in the sun are awesome
girl7twenty7 said on October 22, 2004 08:55:
@coyboyusa Different people - different tastes :) You want it to be more jazzy. I wish it were more rocky. Marie gived us her vision. She’s an author and she knows what she wanted to do. And I think the album isn’t so commercial like all Marie’s solos.
tevensso (moderator) said on October 22, 2004 09:00:
I wouldn’t call anything Marie does commercial. Not after Den sjunde vågen at least. Possibly efter stormen.
erweetiran said on October 22, 2004 10:17:
My opinion is:
1. The snippets and single makes the album thisfar VERY dark and depressing
2. I don’t like the songs at all I can maybe tolerate all about you and the song that is no.3 in the tracklisting
3. Overall...I think i could have done something like this if i had the voice.
Hotblooded said on October 22, 2004 13:00:
“3. Overall...I think i could have done something like this if i had the voice.”
Was that necassary to say??? This came from Marie’s heart and your comments are rude and offensive! You don’t like it well go and listen to something else.
StillFar said on October 22, 2004 13:19:
erweetiran: I think you had some of your songs available on a webpage...if that was you, let me say I doubt that you’re capable (voice or not)
m-cvk said on October 22, 2004 17:16:
erweetiran: you’re colder than a fridge with your comment!
This is a very personal album of Marie and yes, it’s been a VERY dark and depressing time for her. And it’s better to take a GOOD listen to the songs (words & music) and then you’ll hear (not to talk about ’feel’) there’s also positive things in it.
RoXoR said on October 23, 2004 13:01:

well all i can say is i wont even download this album its just not for me :( sorry marie
i see this album major flopping ;(
its also weird the english demos that were leaked long ago.. i liked alot.. where are nice songs like new world, remeber! those songs were so good!!
TomBoner747 said on October 23, 2004 18:10:
I’ve heard it! Thanks!
I think it’s strong, warm, personal, intense and it shows us a new and mature side of Marie! It reminds me of Aimee Man (Magnolia soundtrack). Very good!
I think the 2nd Chance single is a disapointment as a first single. It’s not catchy and sometimes falls out of tune. The Change (song) is million times better, it really grabs you!
But the album-snippets sound very good and interesting!
I think Roxette’s popularity wouldn’t have died in the beginning of the 90’s, if they had tried harder to find a more personal and less fabricated sound. Mazarin and The Change should be examples for Roxette’s future work!!!!!!!
Roxette’s songs after 1995 sound like parodies of Roxette songs. Especially “A Thing About You” and “Opportunety Nox”.
I hope that Per and Marie have learnt from their solo-projects!
leo_clume said on October 23, 2004 19:42:
The best song of the album is “All About You”. Very good lyrics & music, but “New World” is the best Marie song. I love the chorus, harmony. It’s so great sing this song.
T-Rox said on October 23, 2004 20:28:
All we’ve heard now are snippets on a PC-Speaker.
@tg1: the demos (like new world) are full songs in good quality.
I also was a bit confused first time hearing 2nd chance. But hearing the snippets I see, that they work perfect together and I can imagine what the CD sounds like.
I’m sure, when I have the CD in hand and hear the songs in full and good quality I love it.
So don’t always critisize a musician cause of low quality snippets and say the old songs are better.
This reaction I watch in lot of forums.
Be happy to hear a teaser and wait for the whole CD.
LoneGunman said on October 23, 2004 21:32:
First, THANKS A LOT StillFar for the snippets !! :) Thanks thanks thanks !! :)
About it :
“All About You” is kinda cool, I like it. Can´t wait to hear the intire song.
I was excited to listen to “A Table In The Sun” as everyone seem to love it, but man... I hate it, really really boring. I was expecting something more sweet, catchy, etc... (I miss Per).
“The Change” is the worst thing I ever heard... I can completely understand the reason behind these lyrics, but it all make me feel bad and that´s not what I´m looking for in a song.
The other songs, except for “Bad Moon” (great masterpiece), sucks... Of course I´m not really a Marie-solo fan, she never did my type of music, but after I listened to the demos “Bad Moon”, “New World”, etc... I gave “The Change” a try... but didn´t like it AT ALL !!
Thank God GT released a DVD and a Live Cd, otherwise it would be a sad Christmas in LoneGunman´s house... sad, sad, sad.
Like Tevensso, AntiMario and others, I don´t like it.
But it´s SO GOOD to see Marie back... and that´s what I care more now.
LoneGunman
coyboyusa said on October 23, 2004 22:45:
lol gt gets old and stale maries new solo work is an aquired taste to each their own what were you expecting another roxette album? LOL
and just out of curiosity why the hell were so many of you expecting an upbeat album like the way some of the demos were which by the way many of which are at least 5 yrs old and some were written with the intenet to be on roxette albums, I’d like to see how ” upbeat” some of you feel after continuing cancer treatment in the prime of your life SHEESH
ljus said on October 24, 2004 18:25:
oh my! i really love what i heard!!! i’m a huge marie fan, but felt very sceptical about an English album... i must say, it sounds very much more Roxette-ish than her Swedish stuff, but in a lovely way... i think, if Roxette had done something like that (maybe with slightly improved lyrics by Per) they would have been able to continue much more successfully... but anyway... her voice sounds wonderful!!! and some of the snippets really really touched my heart, though I cant understand why they/she chose 2nd chance as her first single...
joyrider said on October 25, 2004 11:22:
when i first heard that marie is doing a solo album i thought that she is as healthy as before her illness and the album will be a loud “here-i-am-again”-comeback like anastacia had in europe after her breast cancer.
after listening to “2:nd change” i knew i was very wrong. i was hoping for a catchy comeback single à la “left outside alone” but marie chose the slow and quiet way and she won’t do promotion and so on ... the new songs fit perfectly HER situation, her fight and her hopes.
i had to listen to the mp3 sinppes a few times and well, i already like some of them and i have to accept that this new album wont contain a lot of songs to play loud while i am driving my car ;) but that is absolutely ok!
T-Rox said on October 25, 2004 18:59:
For me, this insn’t a slow and dark album! There are many mid- and uptempo songs!
m-cvk said on October 25, 2004 19:02:
The snippets on Aftonbladet’s site are different from the ones on the promo. That’s cool, a little bit more of the album :-)
Edit: ’All about you’ is written by Micke. It’s a love song for Marie. Hmm, that’s already 2 songs written by Micke. When can we expect his solo-album? ;-)
m-cvk said on October 26, 2004 06:37:
Only 6 songs on the album have been written by Marie, the other 5 have been written by Micke. I think it’s a pity that almost the half isn’t written by Marie.
What do you think?
Kiwein1 said on October 26, 2004 06:49:
His music is better than I thought, so I can live with it. I guess we should see Marie and Micke as one. :)

Micke’s songs are distinctively ... hmmm ... musically better produced than Marie’s. “Love 2 Live” is just amazing! It was an excellent idea to involve him in writing tracks for the album.
ncurran said on October 26, 2004 14:58:
if i’m completely honest, i’m a little disappointed that marie didnt write more songs, but i suppose like judith said, they probably did a lot of the work together, and when you think about it, marie’s illness is also something that they have gone through together, and Micke writing some of the songs might actually have helped the album evolve into what it was intended to....marie’s struggle overcoming the illness, lets not forget that Micke and her kids are the most important things in her life....one thing i’m very happy with is that marie wrote a table in the sun...because i adore this song

I’ve ordered 2 new releases from CD-WOW recently: 1 came on the Thursday and the other on the Friday (after Monday releases). So by this reckoning I guess that we’ll get our goods on Saturday, Monday or Tuesday?? All the best, Rich

Ally: I’ve just had another e-mail from CD-WOW saying that they have had further delays with their suppliers and that the “advised shipping date” is now 01/11/04. I’m now expecting to receive it on Thursday or Friday of next week. There’s the expression “you get what you pay for”, and it seems that the financial saving here has come at the expense of speed! Fair enough I suppose. Maybe you’ll have better luck. I hope so. All the best, Rich

I think Marie’s new album has some really good songs on it!
What do you think?
