Queen drummer: Madonna can´t sing live

and he is SO right!!
“Roger Taylor supports Elton John’s rant
Former Queen drummer Roger Taylor is supporting Sir Elton John’s attack on Madonna for “miming” during her Reinvention tour.
Elton slammed Madonna for charging fans upwards of £75 to see her perform and then LIP-SYNCHING certain songs.
Taylor says Elton’s comment were “very brave”.
The drummer claims the outspoken piano-player had every right to deliver his tirade against the star as he considers her miming the “worst-kept secret in the world,” reports Femalefirst.co.uk.
Taylor said: “It is about time somebody said it. It was a very brave and correct thing to say.
“Maybe she should get an award for dancing but certainly not for singing.
“It is the worst-kept secret in the world and I think there is too much bl**dy dancing in rock’n’roll and not enough actual singing.”
So true!
This made my day. I can´t believe that woman is such a big star. For what?

I agree. How can she think that dancing and singing can both be done at once? I mean, I’ve tried jumping up and down and trying to talk as well. It doesn’t work!

i always thought she sounded a little too perfect in her performances.
StillFar said on October 12, 2004 12:47:
so can’t Per and I paid about the same for both to see them live ;)

LaMan: And Queen guitarist said the opposite.
” I notice Roger’s support of Elton John’s snipe at Madonna got coverage in the reports of our Press Conference. Just to make sure the record is straight, I DID offer an alternative view at the same conference, but I had a suspicion no-one was listenening ! I was almost right !! I said I thought it was unnecessarily bitchy of Elton to sully an awards ceremony with pokes at another artist. I said I thought if you didn’t have something good to say about a fellow artist at this kind of occasion you should probably shut up. So there ya go.
Love B”

As so many of you know, I am a huge Queen fan and have been a huge Queen fan for so many years and am obsessed with Queen. I also looooove Elton John alot. I don’t like Madonna though. I think she is usually out of tune. But... but I don’t think it’s very professional of Elton to bring himself down to her level, specially at an award ceremony. He is a great man and shall not criticize people like Madonna. It’s a free world and you can speak freely but I don’t think talking about another artist which is well respected, whether she can sing or now, is the right thing. But then again who am I to judge? And no you can’t dance and sing at the same time. Freddie ran around and sang beautifully, but then again, that’s Freddie. Noone can beat him.

I think this is the reason why Britney likes Madonna so much!
@StillFar: Per can sing live, especially when you compare it to Britney Spears!
StillFar said on October 12, 2004 20:22:
I didn’t compare anyone to Britney. I’m just saying that Per is VERY frequently out of tune ;)
on_a_mission said on October 12, 2004 22:44:
per is frequently out of tune, but thats his charm, he was never a singer. Its cute bad singing. You get value for money when you hear Per fuck up, at least its live.
However, if Madonna has been ripping people off by lip-synching...thats REALLY bad.
DaminehGessle said on October 13, 2004 05:40:
StillFar: Agree with you! There is no question we all like Per and Marie but let’s not get prejudice. During the CBB Tour, actually both Marie and Per were out of tune very often. There are not many artists who can perform well.
Jud (moderator) said on October 13, 2004 06:31:
LOL Still far! I couldn’t agree more with u :D He cannot hold the tune, instead of ending a sentence with aaaaahhhh he is ah-ah-ah.. he learnt the way around his out-of-tunes ;)

Put simply... dancing is for people that can’t sing. Only rubbish pop stars mime. These are people that spend 8 hours in the vocal booth doing vocals for one simple verse. If they can barely do it in the studio, there’s no way they can do it on stage. So they dance all around the place while miming - and then when someone insults them for miming, all they have to say is “oh no one can dance those routines and sing at the same time!”. But the truth is, the only reason they even dance like that is to hide the fact they can’t really sing in the first place, and it’s a string of swedish super-producers that actually make them sound so pleasant on the albums. If we wanted to hear the same songs that are on the album and watch you dance - we’d watch your music videos and save ourselves £75. We buy tickets to see you perform!
“Madonna - Best Live Act”. That’s funnier than Billy Connelly!!
DaminehGessle said on October 14, 2004 03:14:
I guess the only group that was both awesome dancing and performing was Take That. They’d never hit the wrong note and they were just great entertainers. You don’t see rockers dance at all. I don’t know about others. But yeah dancing and singing mixed, the only group who could pull it off was Take That.
Roxer93 said on October 14, 2004 05:23:
There’s an Aussie group called Human Nature who seem to be able to pull it off too (not that I’m a fan).
Nothing’s funnier than Billy Connolly!!
Jud (moderator) said on October 14, 2004 06:14:
who knows if take that were singing on stage for real ;)
Btw, Marie does jump on stage and still sings great.. maybe she could open a school :P
on_a_mission said on October 14, 2004 19:46:
non-Scottish people appreciate the humour of Billy Connolly?! That’s pretty funny in itself, and very cool.
coyboyusa said on October 14, 2004 21:36:
judoth it all comes down to how disciplined a singer you are, janet jackson in the 80s/ early 90’s was a huge dance persomer and she never sounded bad ever. if anyone has doubts that madonnas voice aint great just listen to the unplugged set she did for mtv around the release of americna life, it was so cringe worthy it was rather sad
Anarem said on October 15, 2004 00:04:
I was watching old Olivia Newton-John concert footage (she was performing “Xanadu”), in it she was strutting on stage non-stop, and she still sounded amazing, didn’t sound out of breath or winded. Just an amazing performance!
RoxHard said on October 15, 2004 00:06:
@ on_a_mission; isn’t Billy Connelly huge all over Britain and Ireland? He’s constantly touring all over. I was on holiday in Germany about 2 years ago, and I seen a poster of his in a train. I didn’t go cos he charged about £40... which would have been worth it, if I had the spare money...

I think it’s easy to see: Performers who use headsets on stage usually don’t sing live. Real singers use proper microphones. I’d never go to see a lipsync show!
m-cvk said on October 20, 2004 09:51:
About the mics: Melissa Etheridge did use a headset during her last tour and ow, she sings live!!
And yes, Per sings out of tune every now and then, but at least he’s the one who writes the songs himself. We can’t say that about Britney ’fake boobs’ Spears.
naturalborn-roxer said on October 21, 2004 15:25:
why always make comments on other artist you all hate it when they do that to roxette.
if you don’t like it don’t listen to it.
everyone has got different taste.
a lot of artists don’t sing that well so what, if it makes other people happy or make them feel good like we do with roxette.
Jud (moderator) said on October 21, 2004 16:33:
oh yes, Melissa Etheridge DOES sing live and how she sings!!!! :O
She uses a headset because she likes to move around the stage, flirt with the audience, with musicians etc.. she even has her own way of “hanging” the headset.. with black tape on her neck :P
*yay* waiting for her live DVD :D
nancy_girl said on October 29, 2004 23:21:
I don’t understand the havoc it caused anyway, surely it can’t be that big a secret who does or doesn’t sing live (like the drummer said)? I’d rather hear someone out of tune a little than watching them lip-synching. And as for Per, he can sing out of tune as often as he likes, I love his voice far too much to complain…
