Big Thief

Obviously Per Gessle didn’t invent pop music... there are only 7 notes, you are hardly gonna listen on the radio a song completely different from everything done before...
(For the statistical lovers who might say that with 7 notes you can do a huge lot of combinations, just say that to say that is as false as a wooden Euro coin... Music is not only random sounds, it’s sounds with an order and a meaning, and the meaning is given by how they are placed. And keeping certain intervals gives the music it’s beauty and meaning. The “accepted” variations in rhythm are not that big either, so it’s not really hard to sound close to something else...)

The first song, I don’t know it...
the 2nd one, while there might be some coincident notes, they’re very different
And to tell you more, the way the chorus of Kung av sand is *instrumented*, is reminiscent to Free as a bird by The Beatles.

Stealing songs and having similarities is to different things...I think some here are confusing the two
lonely_girl said on June 1, 2004 18:33:
lol, well, Per needs to get inspired somewhere, doesn’t he? ;-))))
harriej said on June 1, 2004 18:37:
Per does at least make covers which are better than the original, which most other coverbands (around 99.99% of them) can’t say.

sharks and dolphins also look similar, but evolved independently.

Per ’borrows’ loads of stuff......for example.
Harleys & Indians (Riders In The Sky) : theres a track by an old band called The Shadows called Riders In The Sky
coincidence? i think not.
Itchycoo Park by The Small faces.....theres a line that goes on about feeding the ducks with a bun.
coincidence? i think not.
Is it stealing or is it inspiration? ;)
I’m sure if I sat here longer I could think of more bu seeing as I’m on a dial up connection this week I can’t be arsed with surfing.

I think it’s horrible that Gessle has stolen Kung av sand (King of sand) from 2 of the most famous songs in the world, the vers is exactly “The first cut is the deepest” by Cat Stevens and the chorus is VERY similiar to “Mrs Robinson”. Hasn’t ANYONE noticed this? Strange.
