Cover-Version "Fading like a Flower"?
Lennon said on May 29, 2004 22:57:
Today on the fairground I heard a terrible Version of Fading Like A Flower. The structure of the song was identical to the Joyride-Version, but everything within a Dance-Beat, electronic sounds and pitched vocals. Although I only heard it from far away I’m quite sure that is was really a new recorded cover-version and not a remix.
Does anyone know who made this version?
Thanx,
Mario.

It’s not that I think all cover-versions are bad. But I’m really bored of those uninspired recordings. Just chosing a song everyone already knows, without any own input. I don’t understand how someone can identify with such a coverversion.
I once listened to a Tori Amos-CD with cover-songs (also containing “Heart of Gold”, by the way). The total opposite of those dancefloor-covers: although these songs are not written by here, she made them sound like her own songs. That’s an artist, isn’t she?

I would imagine they do have permisson from Per or EMI to record and release the song....

You don’t need the permession of an artist like Roxette to cover one of their songs. Those artists are all members of GEMA (that’s the name in Germany) and the equivalent organisations all over the world who manage the composer’s rights of their songs.
This means, that a radiostation who plays a Roxsong will not have to ask Per anytime they play it, and that someone who performs “The Look” on a Karaoke-Party also can do this whithout contacting the songwriter.
A sheet with a playlist has to be signed and the GEMA (or what the name might be in another country)-fees can be calculated.
That’s the same procedure when you release a cover-version. The only exception is, when you rearrange the song in a way that you get a co-composer. For example by writing an english text for a swedish song. Than you can only be accepted as an owner of the copyright, when you have the permission of the original composer. Otherwise all the money goes to Per, when you release a Cover-Version like “Walking through the summerrain” :-)
And using samples of the original track also requires a permission.
A cover-version like this FLF-remake needs no special requests.

It is in the Austria Top 30 Charts for the fourth week now, and I do believe Roxette should push their luck and release “Fading Like A Flower” again, with new B-Sides and a reference to the “The Ballad Hits” album.

It’s not that bad! It’s a dance version so it is not going to sound like Roxette, come on this is great coverage for Roxette!!!

Could you, please, contact me if you have those versions (and they have no noice)?
Thank you!
