Benzine, diesel, petrol...

Ok, this is weird, but I’m really curious about the prices of what you put in your car to drive worldwide.
The differences are so big, you know...
So what is the price of petrol, benzine, diesel or whatever you put in your car? (please, specify what you give her for dinner and where you’re from ;))
ally77 said on May 14, 2004 11:16:
I think unleaded is about 79p a litre here... a price increase was last week, I think! ;)
Jud (moderator) said on May 14, 2004 11:52:
diesel
0,758 /liter
Vienna, Austria
Last time I tanked was 2-3 weeks ago.. I think now it’s a bit higher, 0,778 or sth

it will only get worse as countries liek china and a good part of asian and now african demands for oil multiply in the end manyy wars will be fought over resources hope i am gone by then :)
StillFar said on May 14, 2004 19:32:
may not be a popular opinion but I do believe the prices should increase WAY more. We all know that we’ll run out of it one day and still, people think they need SUVs and amounts of horse power they never need!
to answer your question, Petrol is about 0.90CDN a liter at the moment (0.54 Euro)
Denstandigaresan said on May 14, 2004 19:41:
We put £5s worth in every other day or so. We get about 40m out of that £5.
It’s now gone from about 76p a ltr, to 80p a ltr, and is suppose to be going up again.
People in Plymouth today were panic buying, there were queues at every petrol station.
Jud (moderator) said on May 14, 2004 20:21:
jupp I think that having public transport as many (big) cities have.. there should be at least something done so in such big cities ppl leave the car home.
I have been in Vienna for almost 2 years, I drove here with my car, which I only drive on Fridays or Saturdays for the weekly shopping (and if we go somewhere on a short trip). I just love the public transport here.. but I know many ppl who go to work by car just because..
ally77 said on May 14, 2004 20:29:
I totally agree with that Judith, most European cities I have been too, Stockholm, Barcelona, Salzburg, Amsterdam & gods knows where else have such wonderful public transport. To say the public transport in my part of the UK is poor would be an understatement. This country has a lot to learn...

Salt Lake City, Utah:
Average price for the lowest grade petrol: $1.95USD
Average price for the mid-grade petrol: $2.05USD
Average price for the Premium-grade petrol: $2.15USD
Diesel: Average price $1.85USD
I put the “el cheapo” gas in my car. $1.95. I still say that’s damned expensive, but I also get about 300 miles to the tank (and my tank’s a 15 gallon tank). If someone wants to translate that to Litres / Euros (or did we decide on Euroes *lol*) feel free. I’m too tired tonight to mess with that.
Oh, and I drive the public transportation... and being one of the first ones out in the morning... there isn’t a bus for me to catch! *lol* I have to drive
harriej said on May 15, 2004 10:02:
€ 1,28 for euro95 benzine
Must be one of the highest in Europe, I’m afraid :(
Roxfever said on May 15, 2004 12:38:
Yesterday I saw unleaded for 1, 22 Euro in Germany. Uhh! TOO MUCH! Sure, the resources aren’t endless and we really need alternatives but the prices are not funny anymore:-( In Germany it wouldn’t be sooo expensive if we hadn’t an extra tax on it. It’s a special tax for environmental protection and it’s quite high. Yes, I could use the public transport system instead but I HATE it! I want to get from A to B in time but that’s not possbile here. I don’t want to get up 30 minutes earlier in the morning to get a bus, train, whatever with the result that I still arrive later than if I take the car. No thank you ;-)
Denstandigaresan said on May 15, 2004 13:05:
You would think that someone would invent a car that ran on stuff other than petrol! I know you can get gas powered and electric cars now, but then you can’t buy gas in many outlets and electric are only good for a few miles.
Jud (moderator) said on May 15, 2004 14:10:
roxfever: then those 30 minutes you sleep more every morning have to be payed somehow = high prices on petrol ;)
Vixzter said on May 15, 2004 15:38:
79.9p a litre last week, I paid 81.9p yesterday, have seen it for 83.9p and have heard of some places charging up to £1.00 per ltr.
Of that 81.9p the goverment takes 47.1p in tax and also charges VAT making up tp about 60p towards them.
http://www.hmce.gov.uk/business/othertaxes/roadfuels.htm
Oh and they keep raising road tax at every budget too.
kachina008 said on May 15, 2004 16:50:
In Holland: 1.30 - 1.35 euro a liter and rising.
Just found out that in Belgium, it’s 1.15 euros.
spooky: damn. that is expensive. I remember when gas used to be 95 cents a gallon ;P
ally77 said on May 15, 2004 17:42:
Just been supermarket today with my Dad and it’s gone up in 4 days to 81p a litre... 2p in less than an week!
kriszta said on May 15, 2004 18:19:
In Hungary 1 litre benzine:248,5 Forint=0,96 euro.
In Europe this is the most expensive if in comparison with earnings too.
The price more than half tax!

€ 1,28 per liter !!!!!
Not nice anymore to drive a car with these prices.
@StillFar: I don’t agree with you.
The prices of petrol can be raised if the government gives a good alternative (being a GOOD transportsystem). Here we don’t have that.
Example?
If I go to my family, it takes me 2 hours by car, but 4 and a half hours by train and bus and then I still have to find a bike or taxi to overcome the last 4 km from the closest busstop to my parents house.
Vixzter said on May 20, 2004 22:08:
I’m happy to pay the price for petrol its the massive tax that gets put on top of it that I disagree with.
StillFar said on May 21, 2004 12:55:
harrej: never said anything about public transport. My point is that we all know we’re running out of oil one day and still car manufacturers increase horse power, build bigger cars...where’s the logic in that?
I think it’s pretty lame to disregard those issues just for the sake of having it more comfortable...
+ I don’t know how it is in the Netherlands, but I most cards are still being used by only one person...you know maybe people can do some effort and join their way to work...we can’t always wait for the government to lead us the way.
+ how often do you go to see your family? Considering that it’s a two hours drive I’d say not more than once a week. How about investing those two and a half hours you’d spend on the train in reading a book? I can imagine worse things to complain about...btw a 4km walk won’t kill you either (considering that it’s once a week and we’re supposed to walk about 6km daily)

I go and see my boyfriend once a week, its an hour and 15mins trip by car on a good day, 2 -3 hours when traffic is bad. (have done it in an hour once ;P )
Its 3 hours by train and 2 by coach......so I’d rather spend that time in my loverly little sports car with my own music to entertain me.
Public transport in the UK sucks, hence the reason why we all have cars!
harriej said on May 24, 2004 19:52:
I walk already all day, so that is not gonna kill me indeed.
My point is only that high petrol prices are only ok, if that means that there is a good alternative transportsystem. If that’s the case, I agree, prices may go up.
But since the alternative is rubbish (and also damn expensive), you are almost forced to take the car.
I like reading a book, but taking the train and bus for more then 4 hours is ridiculous.
If the traveling time is doubled compared to the time with the car, I don’t call that a good alternative. And it doesn’t matter then if I like reading and walking or not, it is just not good!!
kachina008 said on May 27, 2004 08:12:
I just found out that I’m getting some travel costs. YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEE :)))
Harriej: its that new law in nl. awesome!
MiracleMan said on May 27, 2004 16:29:
It was around $1.98 last week and heading to $2 rather quickly in this part of the country. But then the price went down three cents. It’s still about 60 cents higher than it used to be.
It now costs me more to gas up at half a tank as it used to take me to fill the entire tank.
Vixzter said on May 27, 2004 21:56:
In one part of Oxford yesterday I paid 84.9p per litre and in another today I paid 79.9p per litre.
I don’t get it, it all comes out of the same bloody hole in the ground can someone justify a 5p difference within a 5 mile radius....anyone would think i was living in London! ;) atleast if petrol runs out my car will be nice to look at ;P
MiracleMan said on May 30, 2004 23:19:
Not a whole lot of difference here in prices. I thought they were beginning to go down, at least they were the other day. But then I needed to get gas but they’d gone right back up.
ROXIROX1998 said on May 30, 2004 23:30:
as always, here in Canada, we-re first in a lot of thing: about 99.9 / liter yesterday morning when i went to work and when 1 go for lunch it was
93.9/ liter (a decrease of 7 cent/liter in about 5 hours, try to beat that...
And for those who wonder, our ‘dollard‘ stands about 1.30 USD. SO... and by chance, we have our own petrol exploitation in Alberta.

The Tinq-petrolstation, Mekelweg in Delft, today (tuesday) still 1,22
kachina008 said on June 2, 2004 08:15:
I just filled up for 1.32 a liter. *sigh* shell station, V power. I like the V power, gives me more miles.
the guy at the Shell counter asked me why the hell I wasn’t saving stamps everytime I filled up. “why would you give up ur chance for one of these lovely towels” he said, gesturing. I said ok.
I don’t have much self control when it comes to new things :P but since I’m spending so much, might as well get something free for it! never mind that ill get ONE free towel after 5 times filling up!
