Edit: oh I so wish she visits Europe with the new album, oj oj oj!!! Damn I will be working all these months just to pay the music events of 2004.... why all good has to come together? (and all bad too? :P)

felicity-brown said on January 23, 2004 01:58:
Yup, got the whole song ...great stuff ...and the live studio version :D
I’ve never actually been to a whole show of Melissa’s, but have seen live recordings and in person when she supported Bryan Adams at Wembley Stadium. Will be at one of her next gigs, for sure! :)
TheRain1981 said on January 23, 2004 08:45:
I got her debut album remastered and expanded - Deluxe Edition - for Christmas. The live and acoustic bonus disc is amazing. “Like The Way I Do (Live From The Roxy)” in my opinion is one of the best live vocal/rock performances ever!

the new album is out, can’t wait to get my hands on it!!! I got the newsletter from her record company .de and they wrote they are planning a European tour, I really hope it’s true and that she plays in Vienna or near here.. and that the shows aren’t cancelled! (as happened the last time, shows in Vienna + München were cancelled and she didn’t put her feet in Spain *sniff*)
I saw Amazon.de has the CD for 13,99€ - will go and check the stores here on Saturday and see if I get it cheaper cuz I want it NOW!!
Euro4Ever said on February 13, 2004 04:28:
She’s OK, and has some catchy tunes
I guess her lyrics are deep and meaningful, But in music I don’t really pay that much attention to them. And her songs never made me run out and buy her albums.
TheRain1981 said on February 13, 2004 07:44:
Her new album is fantastic! Much more rock in this one than the last one.
Jud (moderator) said on February 13, 2004 10:39:
ok I couldn’t help myself and am downloading it! Result of listening to 3-4 songs so far: shivering all over!!!!! Oh boy I so must see her live!
Jud (moderator) said on February 13, 2004 12:35:
what lyrics, what voice, what music... I think I will start a campaign to have her play in here :D
roxtexanet said on February 18, 2004 07:11:
Anyone heard the new album who *didn’t* like the last one (“Skin”) very much? I was totally disappointed in “Skin”... liked maybe three songs on it, the rest just faded into the background for me. Now I’m leery about buying the new one, but it seems like it’s getting good reviews from Roxette fans at least... (-:
coyboyusa said on February 18, 2004 13:01:
skin and breakdown were missing what melissa is all about live rock music....dont get me wrong the meotional content of both albums were raw and they weren’t meant for mass appeal...there are hidden treasures on both and especially some of the single b-sides. Lucky finds melissa where she likes to be happy and in love!
Jud (moderator) said on February 18, 2004 19:25:
I would say this new album has more rocky songs than Skin.. if you wanna listen to the album before buying it, try www.maxalbums.com !! :)
roxtexanet said on February 18, 2004 21:31:
@coyboy & Judith: Thanks, guys! I’m feeling very encouraged about “Lucky” now... maybe I’ll have to pick it up this weekend (but I’ll check out the link you posted first, Jud.. thanks again!).
roxtexanet said on March 1, 2004 05:00:
I picked up “Lucky” and have only had a chance to listen to it once through, but already I can tell that I’m going to like this one better than “Breakdown” and W-A-Y better than “Skin.” Thanks for talking me into giving Melissa another chance, guys!!
coyboyusa said on March 3, 2004 15:06:
ok s i finally went out and bought the album myself because noone bought it for my birthday :( who needs more socks anyway? So, I am not that thrilled with the album art lol but usually I never am. Was really disappointed there isn’t any lyric sheets or real photos of melissa :( but lets review the songs.
1.) lucky: well its the first time i rember her opeing an album with a soft song. Its a breeze ballad I guess not bad
2.) this moment: another midtempo song reminds me alot of the song I take you with me she did for the boys on the side soundtrack
3.) if you want to: hmm oddly repetitve I am not that thrilled about this one
4.) breathe: this should have been the album opener! she rocks like no other woman and u just wanna sing along with this over n over..the video for the song is bad tho its about the life of a football coach go figure
5.) mercy: another light song not bad breezey
6.) secret agent: YES raunchy guitars and melissa sounding liek a sex enraged beast LOL this rocks I love it
7.) will you still love me: she sounds so vulnerable here really good ballad
8.) meet me in the dark: what an amzing song bet its gonna be awesome to hear live just her at the piano wow
9.) tuesday morning: well its not like scarecrow but then again given the subject of the song , the gay man who helped down flight 93 over PA and was left out of all press because he was gay, I can’t imagine how to put it in words she does a great job
10.) giant: wow arena rock great message and a powerful song to boot...sounds better than the version she put out on her website last yr
coyboyusa said on March 3, 2004 15:16:
11.) come on out tonight: hmm odd bluesy kinda i dunno its different for her
12.) kiss me: playful rocker not as good as unusual kiss ftom the little secret album
13.) when you find the one: wow do i hear an accordion? great closing ballad
overall better than skin and breakdown, not better than little secret or yes I am but definately a turn back in the right direction
Jud (moderator) said on March 3, 2004 16:56:
hm.. do you mean that the lyrics are not in the booklet? Mine DOES have the lyrics...?
Any yeah, the cover is ugly, I even thought Krappus might be behind it ;)
Let’s comment on the songs too :D
1. lucky:
makes me smile all the song through, I like it as opener, as the album is called the same and it’s all ME now.. lucky, in love, happy.. It would be the same if she would have called the album “Just ME” :) I gotta think of how Tammy and ME got together :)
2. this moment:
I loved this song from the very beginning, as it started to sound and she started to sing, I cried and I still cry (of joy!!) when I listen to it :)
I love “with my hand on your skin, we can slowly begin, I am free, now the heavens have less cause I’ve found the best and I won’t let them take you away, tell the angels they’ll just have to wait”... yay!
And “I wanna stay here in this moment, make the earth stand impossibly still, disappear in your kiss, we’ll never be missed, let the world fade away, i just wanna stay with you..”
3. if you want to:
I find it funny, I like the “so now i’ve called, so it’s been a couple days, ok seven this I know, I’ve been moving kinda slow” :P
4. breathe:
I had different phases with this song.
First time I listened to it I thought “wah and this is just the first single, how will the album be then” and thought she was writing about her ex.
Then I got to know she hadn’t written this song and a mix of disappointment and confusion invaded me. I was not quite understanding why an artist as she could even think of having a song that she didn’t write in the album..
But then I went back to loving it, she has changed a couple of words/sentences and made the song HERS, it fits her and the lyrics could have been written by herself. I think this cover/version is far better than the original ;)
5. mercy:
I like the drums (loop), the backing vocal’s girl part and the whole meaning of the song. I love “Now I am kneeling at the altar, in the temple of your eyes”
I love the “well I have lived ten years plus ten and ten and ten again” ;) too hard to say “forty”? :P
6. secret agent:
Melissa at her best when it comes to a rocky song :D Wild and sexy and hot :P
7. will you still love me:
Amazing ballad. Really touching voice and lyrics. “Will you still love me when I’ve got nothing to say”.. Could be a song to her fans, if we will still be there.. or to her love.. take it as you want :)
8. meet me in the dark:
What a damn piece of art!!! As with “This moment” (or even more) I started to cry with the first sentences and didn’t stop (actually until after tuesday morning). The cello just kills me!
“Keep your eyes down, say you don’t know me, for I could not survive if they took you away”... oh god it makes me shiver just to write these words!
HOW identified I feel to this song...
9. tuesday morning:
I think she wrote a very nice song as a tribute to Mark Bingham, a guy who together with 3 other men tried to or put the last of the flight 93 down.. but cuz of his homosexuality he was kind left out, and her family kind “left aside” by the government etc.
A great way she has to make him stand TOGETHER with the other 3 guys, she never sings Mark was better, just THE SAME. AMazing.
I was already crying from “meet me in the dark” and then this song came, *tears tears tears*
I cannot really choose a part of the song, you should read all the lyrics.. but ok here it goes: “even though he could not marry, or teach your children in our schools, because who he wants to love is breaking *your* God’s rules”
I love the way she uses the “your” and “our”.
10. giant:
Well if those 2 songs made me cry this song gave me the strength again :) Felt like kicking some asses :D
“You wanted to see us cry, you wanted to see us leave, you didn’t count on the tide, you didn’t count on the pride, you didn’t count on me” Love the “count on ME” YES!!! :)
11. come on out tonight:
When I first heard it I thought “what the hell is this??”
But then oh, all that passion and lust, not one of my favourites but not a song to skip :) I love her “yeah’s” and “huh’s” :P
12. kiss me:
cute, evil, hot, seductive, sexy as we are used with ME :)
“Baby what you doin’ tonight?” Aah yeah! :)
13. when you find the one:
sniff sniff.. :) true love on the way :P if you have lost hope in finding your LOVE.. listen to this song and all hope will be back up and stronger :)

This is a really great album! Not as good as “Your Little Secret” (every song on it could have been a single...) or “Yes I Am,” but close... DEFINITELY a return to what made her great in the first place. Favourites are “Breathe,” “This Moment” (which I’m guessing will be single #2?), “If You Want To,” “Mercy,” “Secret Agent,” “Will You Still Love Me,” “Tuesday Morning,” (a *great* tribute, and a strong candidate for a single, I think) and “Giant.” I do realise I just named more than half the album, but that’s what a great album should be like. I have to deduct a few marks for “Meet Me In the Dark” which isn’t a bad song at all, but reminds me too much of “Skin,” and besides the “we’re just a bunch of outsiders in a small midwestern town and nobody understands that two girls can be in love” thing is getting a bit old... she’s done that theme in how many songs now? “Nowhere To Go,” “Shriner’s Park”... there are others, I just can’t think of them right now! Oh well, I guess you gotta write what you know... also, that bridge in “Come On Out Tonight”... who talked her into that?! That’s just madness. But you get used to it, and it’s no worse than the bridge in “Make My Head Go Pop” I guess!
All in all, this album gets an A- and completely brings Melissa back into my A-list of musicians whose albums I buy without having heard a single note... welcome back, Melissa! (-:
Jud (moderator) said on March 14, 2004 09:49:
just read the news in her official German site, she is supposed to come to DE in mid July and yes, the second single “This moment” :)
If she really visits Germany and some other places in Europe in July.. my gf and I already decided ourselves: we take our holidays to go to a couple of her shows... sorry GT :P
roxtexanet said on March 14, 2004 19:03:
I saw her live back in ’96 in Toronto on the “Your Little Secret” tour. My girlfriend and I had decided that we would go when they added an extra block of tickets and we ended up with an “obstructed” view of the stage, but it didn’t matter because we could still see MLE perfectly. It was great, all the passion of her best records translated into a live show... there was one song (“This War is Over” maybe???) where she drummed on the hollow part of her guitar, and it made this great, deep, resonating sound, almost like a bongo drum... really hard to describe, but an amazing thing to see. The best, though, was “Silent Legacy”... watching her throw her head back for that last “Ohhhhhhhhhhh”... just an awesome display of power. I avoided going to see her on the last couple of tours because tickets were WAYYY too expensive (around 50 Euro for the cheap seats!) and because I was afraid she’d be playing more of the stuff from her newer albums. Now I would go and see her because she’d probably play a mix of her best known songs and some of these new ones, and that would be perfectly fine with me (if I could afford the tickets!!). So, I hope the shows are awesome for you and your girlfriend!
Just checked out the setlist for a show she did the other night in Detroit and it’s very, very good!! Let me know if I should post it here, or keep it to myself so I don’t spoil it (-:
Jud (moderator) said on March 14, 2004 22:26:

I have seen in her official site they have posted the set list.. but I haven’t read it, wanna keep the surprise :P

Jud (moderator) said on April 5, 2004 21:20:

I also wanted to say that if you haven’t read ME’s biography.. do so!!!
My gf and I have been hooked to it since the first sentence.. it’s shocking, it’s sincere, it’s passion, it’s fun.. it’s ME’s.. 100% Melissa
