I don’t know him solo at all, but I can say he’s great because I know a song he did together with the English band “Saint Etienne”.
The song, called “He’s on the phone”, is by far the best song of that band, and one of my all time favourites!! :D

It was a cover version of his own 1984 hit “Week End A Rome”.
They recorded a mini album together called “Reserection EP” which did fairly well in UK and nothing in France.
He also recorded an adaptation of a Sarah Cracknell track (“Ready Or Not” on her first solo CD) renamed “Le Premier Jour” which was a big hit here.
