Canadian Idol, Pop Idol, American Idol: Your idea?

When American Idol first came out here in North America, I was kinda upset due to the fact that the whole industry was so commercialized. I didn’t like the output to be honest with you. Kelly Clarkson didn’t really catch my eyes although I am nobody in North America really :). Americans chose her good for her. She was from Texas I believe so that says it all. Because I think this whole Idol think at least here in North America was kind of a battle between states and provinces (here in Canada).
The 2nd American Idol season was much better. The last 2 people remained in the competition were both very good although I think Clay was more artistic than Ruben. He could nail more songs than Ruben who’s gotten stuck to “Flying Without Wings” for the past couple of months and to be honest with you, he sang it horribly on Canadian Idol’s final episode.
Then it came to Canadian Idol. Ofcourse lower budget than American Idol but same quality i think. Some very good people in top 11 went out. I don’t know what Canada was thinking. It was more politics involved than the US as we are divided into French and British. The French girl Audrey got all the way to top 4 no matter how out of tune she was. Another one was race. Gary who was always out of tune and horrible was in the top 2.
Unbelievable. He was black. And no I am not racist. Toya, another black competitor, was probably one of the bests in the competition. many thought she would be Canadian Idol. She was really good.
Well the last episode I watched at school even though I had lots to do. My favourite competitor from the first day was Ryan Malcolm. At the very end before calling his name, I thought Gary would be #1 and I’d promissed not to watch the show ever if Gary’d win. But yes Ryan won. He is not from British Columbia and I never knew him so no I didn’t just choose him as a favourite for nothing. He didn’t have the looks but man, his voice is great. He can sing almost anything and he has a great sense of a style, an artistic one. The whole Canadian Idol journey made him go from some guy with dreams to this guy with a record deal. If gary’d won, I’d say these shows are crap and ... But I am very happy of the outcome of THIS one. For once things went my way :D.
Just go to kazaa and type in Ryan Malcolm and download ONE (by U2). He is very good.
So those of you who’ve had one of these IDOL shows in your country, what do you think? I sure will buy Ryan’s album when it comes out cause I think he is very good to miss out on.

Heh yeah cool... But Ryan was very good. I am not a big fan of new generation of music and what I listen to except Roxette is all 60’s and 70’s bands even though I was born in the 80’s! But I think Ryan will be good. He looks like a real artist and he sings very well.
Oh do you also agree that Jenny Gear was bad? I have no clue why they chose her in the first place!
I like mean judges. I don’t like hearing “oh you were so good” or oh you rock our word”and ... for every single good or bad performance. Mean judges are more honest than Sass Jordan whose heart would melt with every song heehee. I honestly didn’t like Zack’s comment on Ryan the second last episode when he called him a waiter boy. Don’t waiters have hearts??? Just cause he was never able to do more than what he did for his music doesn’t mean he ’didn’t deserve it. You don’t have to be rich to be a musician eh?!?
Billy was good too. I like it when him and Ryan felt the songs with their hands and soul. I like movements such as that.

my first choice in American Idol (this year, i didn‘t look at the first one from the start) was Clay; i think it was kinda Cinderella‘s story: there you have this shy guy, who did look very ordinary and through the weeks you see him gain confident and charisma... Even if he had not win, i think he will make a great carreer.
The one i couln‘t stand was ‘TRENYCE‘. The selfcentered of this girl was unbelievable. For her, no one was enough good to stand in her way...
For the canadian version, I though, from the start, that either Billy or Ryan would win. They were both very good and not afraid to try diffenrent styles of song but ryan as an advantage because he was already doing singing with his familly. Billy was more ‘the rebel one‘who was not afraid to sang love songs. And you‘re right about those two, they seem to be very good friends. And that girl Jenny what a strange voice...

Vixzter I never watched Pop Idol. They never showed it in North America. The guy who won it sang in the last episode of the 1st American Idol. I wouldn’t have watched it even if they’d shown it here.
I am from West Coast RoxiRox. My family lives in West Vancouver but I go to school in Victoria which means I sorta live here and there :). Where are you?
I totally agree with you. I cannot agree less. Yeah what was up with Jenny’s voice?
I do not think Canadian Idol was a crappy show. It ’wasn’t as glamorous as American Idol which I believe is good. At the very end, the Idol turned out to be someone who well-deserved it. I like Ryan’s taste in music. Kinda like a hard-rock at times soft-rock mixed taste.
I don’t watch much tv. some sports events, at tmes discovery channel and FRIENDS. But this summer, there were pretty good shows on tv.

I loved to watch first, American Idol and then Canadian Idol. but i think the first thing that many of us couldn‘t have enough of is the judges comments (specially the mean ones Simon & Zack)
don‘t you love to hear their hard comments on the contestants but, at the end, you have to aggree that they always pick the winners...
I have to also aggree with you:
1- How come Audrey de Montigny was choose for
this contest and she wasn‘t speeking a single word in english... makes me believe they almost did it on purpose: see, we choose ONE french canadian and all the time she was in this contest she never learn to speak (not sing ) a single word in english... a girl of this age thought they learn english , as a second language. earlier now... i‘ve you noticed , at the last show, they ask people of all provices who they think would win except in Quebec...
2- i also agree with you that they have chosen
Gary maybe because is black...(i‘m not a racist either, but i‘ll be curious to see if they would have chosen certain people if they‘ve heard them whitout seeing them (would like to see that once...)
Maybe they would be surprise of who would turn out to win. I think they also did it for AI because in the first edition the two last people were white (must not have hit interest in the black community)
I supposed, next year, they will be in the last three: one white, one black and one hispanic (or latino). will see, there‘s so predictable those producers...
and, if i may make a prediction, i believe it-s the latino singer who will win (got to open to new audience and new records buyers...)
But anyway, we love to watch those shows...
