Tom Petty influences - I Need To Know!
Rich-UK said on September 9, 2003 13:33:
I heard “I Need To Know!” by Tom Petty for the first time yesterday, and it’s really good!
I wasn’t wild about Gyllene Tider’s cover of the song, “Vill Ha Ett Svar!”, until the release party of Mazarin where it rocked, and now I love it!
So what do you think of the original and its cover version, and which Roxette songs do you think are particularly influenced by Tom Petty?
Best wishes, Rich-UK

Hi Rich!
I’m just crazy about Tom Petty! I have a lot of his albums... Nobody can beat him, not even GT. The original is of course best!

The original is much better!!!!!!! The music and so on has more quality, though the lyrics in Swedish sound good :p
I think a very influenced Roxette song by Tom Petty is “Jefferson”.

Cool, but which other Roxette songs in particular do your think are influenced by Tom Petty’s music??

Honey Bee, isn’t that song on Wildflowers?
I never download songs, I always go to the record shop or order it via internet.
Maybe you can do so as well!

“Looking For Jane” has a bit of a Petty feel to it.
Overall I find Gessle more melodic than Petty.

@Rich-UK:
I would say Church of Your Heart... but mostly for the Rickenbackers in the song...

Kung av sand
When I first heard this song on the radio while on holiday in Sweden I thought it was Tom Petty untill I listened to the lyrics - swedish - definately not T.P.

“Det Ar Blommor Som Ar Fangat Dig”... reminds me of “Last Dance With Mary Jane” somehow... both songs are great...

...and “Du är en gangster, älskling” (I hope this is the correct title) starts almost exactly like “Last Dance with...” But they are both great.
Tom Petty was my idol before knowing Per better...Now I like Per more. Don’t know why. Do you? (hehe)

I think “Jag tror du bar på en stor hemlighet” from Mazarin is influenced by Petty. I always connect it with “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”.
I have Tom Petty’s complete discography at home, like PG said the 1993 Greatest Hits it’s an album you must have!
