Well Per explained it in an interview: They decided not to release a new album as long as EMI stays in the current crisis. Not to waist new material because of poor promotion and distribution.
And EMI was pushing them all the time to release another greatest hits compilation, because they count on a new generation of record-buyers every 7 years. It’s easy money!
Who would have bought a disc full of minor hits and bonus-material? Only the die-hard fans.

WICF was a huge hit. Thought stars did ok in europe aswell, didnt TCOTH do very well also ? , MATAH was huge on radio wasnt it and A thing about the hits are not dryimg up just yet :-S

I made a poll on a Yahoo group a while ago (the group is called Rox_Action), about what the fans want next. So far all the votes have been for a new album with new material. Goes to show, I reckon.

Yes, I think Don’t Bore Us II would have worked. However, that’s assuming Capitol would go ahead and remaster the earlier material - the first volume release, for example. Perhaps Volume 2 would include stuff left off the first volume as well (half old stuff that didn’t make the first volume and the other half new stuff after the release of the first volume):
