What was really disappointing for me is a performance both MTV and VH1 broadcast several times. It was a small live gig with a few fans as audience, it was I think held before the day Madonna’s new album was released. Eeeek, now that was horrible. I saw two songs: Holiday and American Life. You do your best, manage to get a ticket somehow to that gig, you are one of the lucky let’s say, 40 winners to be let in, you wait ages outside the studio, but finally you are in, and yes, there’s the one who you admire... and then... she sings completely off-tune, and doesn’t have the faintest idea of the lyrics. Must be rather disappointing!

Hmmm...not sure which performance you saw pietroxette, but the one I saw aired on MTV the day her album came out here in the USA. She didn’t perform “Holiday.” She performed “Like A Prayer” though. It was all live and I didn’t notice any mistakes in the lyrics. However, I did hear her live performances from the show in France on May 7, 2003 where she performed “Like A Virgin” - lyrics which she had forgotten. I thought the performance for both shows were really good. Sure she’s not the best vocalist, but her performance of “X-Static Process” live sounded fantastic.

the mtv awards have been getting crappier every year. alot of great music gets shut out every year, the performances are horrible, its basically the alll rap is crap network awards.....and vh1, since its owned by viacom which owns mtv. is also starting to put rap crap on....i miss much music it was such a breath fo fresh air

(Atlanta, Georgia) The Atlanta Journal-Constitution apologized to readers Monday for using a picture of Madonna kissing Britney Spears on its front page last week.
The picture, about the size of a postage stamp was used to promote a story in its Entertainment section about the MTV Video Awards in Friday’s editions, but no sooner had the paper hit newsstands than the paper’s phones began ringing, and ringing, and ringing with irate readers.
A larger version of the picture of the two stars in an open mouthed kiss accompanied the article inside the paper.
In Monday’s editions, managing editor Hank Klibanoff apologized, saying the picture should have been inside but not on the front page.
Klibanoff compared the picture to graphic images from the war in Iraq.
“We ran images we otherwise might not have run. But that was war, and war was news. The photo we ran Friday was neither, and I wish I had limited its display to the inside of the Living section,” Klibanoff wrote.

As Judith briefly hinted at, there are distinct political agendas imbedded in this particlar performance. In order to understand the perfomance consider what was perfomed, who performed it, do they have a history of challenging the norm and what is the sociol and political contexts in which they funtion? If our creative community can’t adress social issues, who can?

Kylie Minogue also did the cowboy style look first too in 1989 and on her 1998 Impossible Princess album she did a song called cowboy style. Maddona copied this for her 2000 album music.
