Live ISM DVD

9 replies

Hey guys, do you know anything about the Live ISM DVD’s available on Ebay, like, image quality, sound, etc. Has anybody bought it? It seems to be some brazilian version, but I don’t really care, as long as the image and sound are fine. Thanx!

* Packaging
The front and back covers are ok. Not brilliant, but ok. There are a few video stills on the back, and a bit of text about Roxette being on tour. The spine has the title printed in very large text - Something that all DVD’s released by that company have. It comes in a South-American pressed Amaray case.

* Video
The picture quality is fine. It’s a bit washed out, but that’s because it was transferred from a VHS copy.

* Sound
The sound quality is very good. Again, as it’s form a VHS transfer, it’s not the usual high standard of a DVD. Even so, it’s very listenable, and I haven’t found any of it to be poor quality: There’s no hiss or fuzz.

* Extras
Sound has been specially edited for the menus of the DVD, which is a nice touch. There’s also a discography, going up to 2001’s Room Service.

Overall, it’s a good DVD. And for someone like me who doesn’t have any idea of where to get a VHS copy, this is the next best thing... Or is it? Well, I actually prefer the idea of having this DVD, instead of a VHS copy, for 1 reason: It lasts a lot longer :-)

Hey, thanx a lot. I’m gonna buy it!

just so you know it is not an offical dvd but a rip from the vhs tape there is nothing really extra to it so thats all

@ coyboyusa

It’s semi-official. The company who make the DVDs are granted the license to release these products for a limited time only. However, there have been problems with the legalities, and often the people who actually own the original material know nothing about it.

For example, the ABBA video compilation, More Gold was licensed to this DVD company by Universal Brasil, however Universal Music Sweden knew nothing about it until 2 years later, despite Stockholm being the base for all-things ABBA.

oh, and:

I assume it was EMI Brasil who allowed them to make a limited run of the Live-ism DVD.

It was ripped from the japanese laser disc, not from the VHS. And yep, we can call it “semi-official” :)

I think the quality is ok, you can watch it perfectly. The only problem for you guys that are not from Brazil is that the subtitle is only in portuguese.

Fernanda - São Paulo

but we’re fluent in the English language, so such subtitles aren’t necessary :-D

The sound Kills..Mruders the VHS Version 5.1 rocks. I got mine for $8 buck with the mag off ebay.
