quick review of mazarin - twatg 2 no this time....
Jackeill said on June 15, 2003 13:21:
just want to say that all songs are for me too acousitc, they aren’t that thing i expected. there are no crashing guitars, songs are without any power...
i found only 3 songs which are as good as songs from cbb or twatg : fodelsedag [fast with guitars] tycker om nar du tar paa mig [great ballad - actually best song on album] and jagtror du bar paa en stor hem [guitars + rock&roll]
others are... weak :( i’m not saying i don’t like them, cos they are nice. but they are nice and only nice. nothing more, nothing less...
i expected some electric guitars....... :(
mazarin - 6/10 [while twatg 9.5/10]

Hej
I agree with cskendras here !! I think the album sounds just PERfect !! :) “Mazarin” is a very sweet and happy album, with amazing melodies and great vocals.
See, how sweet is “Vilket Háll Du Än Går” for example, and the vocals in “På Promenad Genom Stan”... oh my !!! I also like rock and crashing guitars, but hey, there’s rocky songs too, like “Fodelsedag” and “Spegelboll”.
My top 3 is :
1. På Promenad Genom Stan
2. Vilket Håll Du Än Går
3. Fodelsedag
“Mazarin” is a FANTASTIC album, Per did it again ! :) TACK PER !!! :)
“Mazarin”
Rating : [10/10] for me !! :)
All the best

Jackeill, I hope you didn’t expect a copy of TWATG! I thought TWATG was a super great album but he can’t make a similar one, he has to take an other musical road this time!

I was at the release-party and the songs which were played there were great.
So the album must be ok too, I guess.

TWATG was great in its own way, Mazarin is even better, for me.
10/10

is this album worth buying for someone who doesn´t understand any swedish?
Jackeill said on June 15, 2003 21:03:
for sure it is worth.... however i don’t understand anything and maybe that’s a reason why i don’t like it so much....
Joyrider2000 said on June 15, 2003 21:44:
Good solution is to learn Swedish :)
If you don’t want, for the most part of the songs you can find English translation, so I don’t see any problem. As for me, I don’t understand swedish speech, but it’s enough to see lyrics to make out the words in the song.
PS: På Promenad Genom Stan - THE BEST!!!

just listening to some of it now. It has an extremely happy vibe - which is nice. it seems veryfolk orientated. I have a feeling that it is a ’grower’. I can’t give a better assessment right now.
[edit] the mazarin instrumental is really cool, almost kinda indie

@Jackeill: Just wondering since you expected more guitars: do you know Pers first two solo albums? After all, there weren’t that many electric guitars on them either...
felicity-brown said on June 15, 2003 23:50:
Love it!!! ...and I’m English and ignorant ...we don’t do languages ;)
Jackeill said on June 16, 2003 10:28:
@Starrox: yes, but it was 20 years ago ;) and thru this time we have joyride [pop + guitars] cbb [yeah:)] twatg [crashing unpolished guitars:)] than some electronic sounds in hand and rs.... but look at jefferson, 7twenty7, lms! and bla bla bla of course... i expected this album to sound like this...

If some fans have not heard Pers older solo albums, you may be shocked by some of the songs. I didn’t expect a TWATG 2 at all, I knew it would be more like his older swedish solo albums with a few typical Per songs thrown in for good measure. If he did the same sounding songs all the time, we would all get very bored and so would Per. I love the variety of music this man can come up with.

Yea just yesterday (I guess greatly due to the growing anxiety for holding my hands on “Mazarin” :)) I put on (for a rather long time now) “Per Gessle” and... wow... guess I found myself re-falling in love with that album again (forgive the redundancy)... :) *tempted to give “Scener” a spin tonight* Should I? :)
Jud (moderator) said on June 16, 2003 14:40:
I like all the songs except “Sakta mina steg” (what the hell is that??) and the instrumental. I simply don’t like such instrumental songs, I like guitar ones like Yngwie or Jonas’ own album though ;)))
So 8.5 out of 10
Jud (moderator) said on June 16, 2003 15:02:
;) i did the same with his other 2 solo albums :D and they really came as sth new - i hadn’t listened to them for quite some long time I gotta say :P But it is great when an old album fills you with new feelings again :D
DeLuk said on June 16, 2003 17:08:
Yes. Hadn’t listened to Per’s early solo stuff for some time too but “Här Kommer Alla Känslorna” just made me so much feel like it... :P And yes it is delicious to “re-discover” an “old” album yes it is. Time brings the magic back. :)
@ tevensso: well it’s all in the mood I guess. :) And the mood right now pretty much screams Gessle all around no doubt! :P But then... it gets so hard to hold a tear when track 12 comes... :P Well... Mr. Twilight shall tell me tonight. :)
Anyway a curiosity: is there the harmonica on any song on “Mazarin”? Hmm... don’t know why but “Här Kommer Alla Känslorna” makes me wanna hear the harmonica... :P (Ah so that’s why yesterday I was wishing so bad that “Tända En Sticka Till” would come! :))
tevensso (moderator) said on June 16, 2003 17:12:
Yes there are a few songs with harmonica in them. :)
cskendras said on June 15, 2003 13:43:
tastes differ!
so i like this style and the songs sounding accoustic!
Mazarin, Per Gessle
