Leave of absence without hits
Per Gessle: “Mazarin” (Capitol/EMI)
3 out of 6
While Roxette is keeping business going by releasing compilations, the duo’s songwriter, Per Gessle, has taken a leave of absence to record a solo-album that is about as controversial as the achievements of the swedish supertanker.
A fraction of the man enormous fortune has after all accounts been spent on a gigantic record collection, however this can’t be heard on the much admired musiclover’s unimaginative declaration of love to guitarbased pop-music in bad style with the likings of Jeff Lynne.
Without ever creating any stir, the 14 songs work well, but you can’t help but being left with a feeling that he has saved his hits for the next Roxette album.
