Hej! I´ve read in a german magazine that Agnetha will release a new solo album in the summer. Do you know something about it because I couldn´t find something about it in Internet. Thanks and Have a nice day.

I didn’t think she was interested in the music business anymore (heard it on an Abba documentary once). This is interesting news. :)

Hi,
Yes, it will be in English and she‘s covering some Dusty Springfield.
This is what I found:
Agnetha makes new pop album
In todays “Aftonbladet”, Staffan Lindé reveals Agnetha is going to release her new album in English. It has been 16 years since her last English album “I Stand Alone” was released. She has been working on this project in maximum secrecy. It is hoped that this new album will see a winter release.
It’s great news to many ABBA-Agnetha fans that this album will be in English!
16 years after “I Stand Alone”, she is coming back with an English album. Sweden’s most secretive recording project is taking form. This winter Agnetha Fältskog, 52, makes a comeback with a pop album in English. “She thinks it will be fantastic”, says ABBA-stars spokesman Staffan Lindé. The project is surrounded by maximum secrecy. But now it is a fact.
ABBA-star Agnetha Fältskog makes a comeback as a pop artist after 16 years absence from the music scene.
“I will not say anything today”, says producer and arranger Anders Neglin , who is working with Agnetha Fältskog on the recording project.
Agnetha Fältskog will turn 53 years old on Saturday. Her last new material was the album “I Stand Alone” from 1987.
World News
A comeback album with the star is naturally world wide news to millions of ABBA fans. The comeback is confirmed by Agnetha Fältskog spokesman Staffan Lindé. “We can say that she has started recording. Recording of the backing tracks is almost done and she will soon begin to record the songs”.
“Agnetha thinks it is fantastic. Perhaps things will be clear by summer (2003) or early autumn”, he says.
This means the album can be released by winter. “Yes, if nothing interfers”,says Staffan Lindé
Many writers have been involved with the project, however neither ABBA-friends Björn Ulvaeus or Benny Andersson. However, Agnetha herself contributed with a number of songs. According to our source of information it is pop.
The Greta Garbo-myth
“I won’t go into details now, but most of the songs worked on are in English”,says Staffan Lindé. Agnetha has withdrawn from the limelight for many years. Her shyness has created a Garbo-myth around the star.
Maybe Abroad
“But I think she will talk openly about the album in the future”,says Staffan Lindé.
Will she venture abroad?
“We will see, but it clear that those that want the album will buy it”.

Wow, isn´t this such great news guys?!
I admit I´m a bit sceptical towards album release date, if they says it will be 2003 release in real that means 2004 I suppose... hehe.
It´s the same with Kate Bush always and ever! ;)

i’m surprised i had heard she has had a horrribly run of life since abba disbanded and that she would never record again...wonder what changed her mind?

AWESOME about Agnetha’s new record, in English too, woohoo!!
Shane, basically, success freaked her out, combined with utter lack of privacy, her divorces, death of a close companion. She became a recluse bascially. I even heard she was losing grip of the English language. Sounds like she went through what Wacko Jacko + Kurt Cobain did as MEGA success really trips you up and you can’t escape it.
Wacko is the freak he is cuz of his success and the constant media glare, Kurt killed himself, and Agnetha became a recluse. I guess she needed years of quiet reclusive time to reflect and eventually get inspiration again to record. Success in the public eye is NOT all it’s cracked up to be Shane...very few people are like Madonna and the Beatles, where they thrived on their success...
Anyhoo, YAY about Agnetha’s return!! ;-)

@powerpoplarry - thank you for the info on Agnetha. I knew she did not like the public life, but did not realize the severity. Personally, I would also go nutty if I had to live a highly-public life. Of course, no worries of that happening.... But seriously, I think it would be awful to always be recognized and always be pestered by the media.
Marie-fan said on June 5, 2003 18:31:
Yes, Agnetha had problems with beeing a famos person and with her divorce. And I heard that she had problems wiith a fan, who stayed always near her.
Now she´d like to come back- that´s wonderful. I like her solo music. The last one is from 1987 and called I stand alone.
powerpoplarry said on June 5, 2003 18:41:
No prob Shane. ;-) Um, yeah, another one who escaped, luckily, was Aimee Mann. Her fame was very fleeting, and survived mostly as a cult pop singer/songwriter later on when it died down.
coyboyusa said on June 6, 2003 13:22:
i heard agnetha’s parents both died shortly after abba broke up that she had a cancer scare and her daughter ..at least i think it was hers was in a serious accident i can’t remeber it was on an abba special on vh1 many months ago
Shane said on June 6, 2003 21:15:
Wow - that really is a string of bad luck.
I did not even know VH1 did a special on ABBA - I always end up seeing VH1’s specials on Eminem, Snoop Dog, R. Kelly, etc....
Marie-fan said on June 8, 2003 16:18:
I don´t know that VH 1 special. But I think Frida wanted the succes more than Agnetha. So maybe Agnetha needed the couple of years to record a new album.

Yes, I heard in a tv documentary that she felt as a looser after abba´s split, that´s why she released the single “the winner takes it all” (a great song). I´m not a fan, but it´s always good to hear good news from others. :)
powerpoplarry said on June 12, 2003 18:46:
Yeah, I always had a feeling that Agnetha has had low self-esteem and zero self confidence...
Marie-fan said on February 1, 2004 14:11:
Yesterday I´ve read in a german daily newspaper that the album will be release in march. Great.
Anarem said on February 1, 2004 15:37:
Agnetha didn’t release “The Winner Takes It All” (though she did sing lead vocals), it was an ABBA single.
kachina008 said on February 2, 2004 11:53:
for me personally, Agnetha was *the* voice of ABBA.
how coindidental, I just only found my ABBA greatest hits CDs and was playing em in the car when I heard this news! how fab :)
Anarem said on February 3, 2004 00:40:
and Frida had more fun on stage, if you see the old ABBA at Wembley concert footage.
Changing subjects a bit, has anyone ever seen the old “I Have A Dream” video with the children’s choir? There was one scene where Frida was smiling down lovingly at a boy as she sang... and the little boy’s nose was running. Snot all over his upper lip. Can you imagine being forever known as the kid with snot running down his face in an ABBA video? Poor, poor bastard.
roxtexanet said on February 3, 2004 02:12:
@Anarem: You’re kidding! I have the old “ABBA Gold” video collection... I’m going to have to see that for myself!!! It’s no wonder I never noticed it before, I hate that song and always fast forward through it (the three times I’ve watched that video compilation, that is!).

Warner Music Scandinavia Signs Agnetha Fältskog
01/28/2004
Former ABBA member to Release “My Colouring Book” Album in Spring 2004
Jonas Siljemark, President of Warner Music Scandinavia, announced today that the company has signed a worldwide recording agreement with Agnetha Fältskog for the release of her first recorded material in 17 years.
“Warner Music is overjoyed to work with an artist of the stature of Agnetha,” Siljemark said. “Thanks to Warner Music’s Bo Frölander we have a successful history with Agnetha and look forward to tremendous success with this much-anticipated comeback project.”
It is the Swedish superstar’s first album since the 1987 Warner Music release “I Stand Alone.” That album was produced by former Chicago front man Peter Cetera.
The album - an acoustic set featuring a complete orchestra - is co-produced by Agnetha with pianist and bandleader Anders Neglin and drummer/producer Dan Strömkvist.
The lead single from the album is “If I Thought You’d Ever Change Your Mind,” a song composed by John Cameron.
Agnetha Fältskog’s new album comes at a time when the “Mamma Mia!” musical continues to expand its phenomenal march around the world and the 30th anniversary of ABBA’s Eurovision Song Contest victory with “Waterloo.”
